Re: RPI 2010 Off-Season Thread IV -- It's Looking Like No "I-V" Is Necessary!

A new page on the official website http://www.rpiathletics.com/sports/2010/7/19/MHOCK_0719102623.aspx?path=hockey with a lot of stuff. It looks like someone did a lot of scanning of rosters and stats.

Scanning through here, I was able to find out what numbers the incoming freshmen have chosen:

Koudys - 2
Leboeuf - 3
Dolan - 11
Rogic - 12
Higgs - 23
Tinordi - 28
Bailen - 29

Thanks for noticing that was included. Interesting that they didn't update the returning players. Bailen was the only one whose number last season wasn't already in use, and he indeed took that number, 29.

FWIW, it has been working more often than not for him. I do wonder if it will work this season, and if it doesn't work, the tantrums may be epic. :D

Fat Mike will be in playoff tantrum mode by the end of November if things do not work. Better have a sit down with the refs to ask them not to cater to his crying anymore.

Today is 20 July 2010. There are 80 days until RPI's next game.

This is based upon 8 October for the start of next season.

Lot of pressure on a young freshman at Cornell. Without a lot of offense to back him up and pick up his mistakes every game could be tight. First four games UNH and RIT at home and then the North country.

And those teams will also have the advantage of starting their seasons earlier.

Big mistake if he does. He needs at least one more year of seasoning. He'd be better off in juniors than in the AHL. And he's better off in college than in juniors.

I rend to agree with you. College makes so much sense on so many levels; and hockey careers are short lived under most circumstances.

If what I've been hearing from Blackhawks camp is accurate, that seems unlikely.

If he goes that route it could be a huge mistake. At least one more year of college level play would help him greatly. I would be foolish to think and quite selfish to expect him to stay in Troy for all 4 years, but from what I saw last year, he is just not ready to play at the AHL level. Depending on how he plays this coming year, he may well be ready by next year (although I hope he decides to stay for 3 years at RPI). The last RPI players to jump early, Cavosie and Tapper both had phenomenal years before they left. Pirri is no boubt talented but he was not at either of their levels yet this past year.

The Bowman liked him http://blackhawks.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=534271
Brandon Pirri had a great camp

All offense…all the time. Day one he made some plays…Day two was an absolute disaster. Defensive LIABILITY. Will never be a + player in the pros unless he has an overhaul and finds a defensive game.

Make what you will from that.

Re: RPI 2010 Off-Season Thread IV -- It's Looking Like No "I-V" Is Necessary!

Dr. D, I attended one hockey game at the old MSG, back in the early 1960's.

I note that, elsewhere on this thread, someone listed reasons why Achilles Rink is a bad facility. Included among the reasons was that there is only one Zamboni.

As I recall, the time I visited the old MSG, no Zamboni was used at all. Between periods, the ice was resurfaced by a bunch of guys with shovels and barrels.

Did the old MSG not have a Zamboni, or was it on the fritz the night I was there?

Having only one Zamboni isn't a bad thing in itself. If you are idiots from Schenectady, then yes it is. For those of you who weren't there, a few years ago at Union they decided to throw out t-shirts between periods. A woman sat on the back of the Zamboni and threw t-shirts into the crowd as the Zamboni cleaned the ice against the boards. Having reaped all of the benefits of a Union education which gave her the sense of a confused pigeon, she assumed that because the glass was clear it must not be there, so she threw a t-shirt directly into the boards (from the top of a zamboni that was flush against the boards). It fell, got sucked up into the Zamboni, and broke it, leaving the entire crowd to wait an extra 30 - 60 minutes while they fixed it. A problem easily remedied when you have two Zambonis.

He's being courted to go pro because the Blackhawks need to fill out ranks in the AHL. A lot of their depth is being forcibly evaporated thanks to them handling their salary cap situation like a pack of idiots. Going pro at this point now would be a mistake. Next year though... Different story.

I don't think that we can be sure yet if it will be a different story next year. I do agree that it is more likely than not.

Lets be serious about this. If they want him, he will be there.
You are not going to tell your future employer where to go while they hold the checkbook.
College is great and I want him here for the full four years, but when Chicago comes a callin, Pirri will be a goin. :(
