Wicked-agree but I always felt that Healey and Tapper and Murley had enough offense to be decent NHL players. I would like to add Brian Richardson-who I always feel gets over looked-but his smaller staure worked against him. I still like to think he could have at least had a brief stint in the NHL.

It wasn't offense that hampered Healey-Tapper & Murley...:p

Defense is my biggest concern for this season-I am pretty sure we will score enough from up front. I would like to see some Dmen who can pile up assists and add a few goals from the point on the PP. But then again, defense has been my concern since 1986;) I suspect over the next few years that is being addressed very well with what we have coming in the pipeline. I still maintain that at least in the ECAC-defense rules.

While I share your concerns, I'm pretty confident that the further development of Bergin, Kennedy, Foss (and York) coupled with the addition of Bailen, Dolan and to lesser extent "Le Beef", balances out the loss of Merth and Burgdoerfer & Jensen. If anything, we should see a net gain of offensive points from the blueline this season.

Ya, Foss has been the poster boy for wasting his size. Let's hope this means the realization of this being his final year before having to try and hack it in the pros has lit a fire under his Foss.
Never underestimate, too, the power of participating in one of the rookie camps...it is a HUGE confidence booster...Foss probably learned a thing or two about himself that even he didn't realize was there...and now it is embedded:eek: :D ...

Let's also add that he wasn't drafted until AFTER his freshman year, and I don't recall if he attended a camp last year. He is quite young, and has been playing alongside Mike Bergin (who is quite the quarterback as it is).

I sincerely hope so-if we see a decent gain from our defense, we are going to be one tough mother of a team to handle for most of the opposition. ;)

I'm surprised that you didn't include Koudys. IMO he has the greatest upside of the four entering defensemen.

Oversight on my part RB, not exclusion....I feel even better about our D now.:p

Since we're at 8 D-men (I'm including Beauregard), it's looking better to potentially get some better synergy between our partnerships on the line. Hopefully Bailen isn't going to flop similar to Zarbo when he transferred from Bentley; I think that's one of my concerns about transfers coming in. Greg I'm not all that worried about because his brother did play with us for 4 years, and although they are two different people (by fingerprint), we should have a good idea of what to expect.

I am not concerned about Bailen. He was a top dmen on a CCHA team, not an AHA team. Also, playing in the USHL, he didn't have the chance to get rusty.

OK; obviously I was merely looking at Bowling Green's record in the past few years, but did know about the USHL experience. In any case, we'll see come October what kind of hand we've been dealt, and play it accordingly. I trust Coach to bring the best out in our players. Here's to hoping the ECACs being in Albany really WAS the jinx.

Bailen was the best D-man on his B-G team as a frosh (37 6 -10 -16 56) ...and was an All-Star in the USHL this year -- 41 pts. from the blueline (58 14 - 27 41 - 97) . He had the GWG in the All-Star game.

There is no mystery in what we're getting with Nick.

A good player. But what we won't know until October is how he will match up with our other defensemen. Do we think any of the seniors will remain paired, or will all senior/new-to-RPI pairings be in order potentially?

My guess is that JFK/Foss/Bergin will each be paired with one of the new players at least in the beginning.

Bailen won't need a seasoned vet paired w him as he played 4 yrs in USHL (started when he was 15) plus the year at BG. He is going to be awesome. Look at his line this year in USHL, he scored alot. We'll be pleased with Nick. GLM back in the last thread had an awesome scouting report on him.

Sorry, must be mistaken. I thought u compared him to Danny Biega. My bad. Still think that we will be pleased. AD

Ohhhh yeah. My memory stinks sometimes.

I said that if he plays like a major P.i.t.A. the way Alex Biega was for Harvard, then we've got a nice sandpaper like player on defense who's got some offensive skill as well.

See I listen. Just got the first name wrong :) My dad always told me to listen to people who know more than you do.

That's a good point...he could easily handle being paired with a newbie...should be interesting to see how Vines' attacks the pairings... barring injury, I think Beauregard will be hard pressed to dress at D.
