It may be imagination, but the percentage of non-management majors on the hockey team seems to have increased under SA.

I don't know what the ratios were in the past...IIRC, I think we had about five kids on the squad last season who were Eng. majors of some ilk...not bad if you ask me. I think Clarkson might've had one this past season.

If I added correctly, 28.5% of the players listed in the student directory (not including this years seniors) are in some sort of engineering major. Brutlag, Kennedy, Foss, Beauregard, Lee, Harkenrider, Koudys and Rogic are majoring in either mechanical, chemical or civil engineering. Still waiting to see what Leboeuf, Dolan and Higgs pick as a major.

I have faith in Al Shively to give the French pronunciation. Of course, he has to get here first, and who knows if he'll be ready in 11-12. But I digress.

I'm assuming they're not doing all of the field house renovations over this summer, what do they plan to do? Is it on the RPI website?
This is Phase II, Phase I was the new locker rooms. They've had renderings/drawings set on easels in HFH for the last two seasons. The details I'm sure are buried in various places on the website, but I'm not going to torture myself into trying to find links.

Suffice it say, they are renovating the front end of HFH --
- Entirely new facade with ground to roof glass/metal
- New main entrance/lobby/ticket office/
- Inside, new construction in the old Section 1 (?) to include coaches offices, and rentable corporate type boxes for LGR and other groups...
- Also new Engineers in the Pros & trophy display area, etc.

I'm sure I've left something out.

No excitement for the captain?

Honestly, I don't really see any kind of guarantee that JFK will be the captain this coming up year. He may be it, you never know. Either him or Brutlag (as he was an alternate last year).

My WAG is JFK remains.... We need a forward. My WAG is that Jerry D. might be in the mix...

I used Joe Marsh as an example because I was always impressed by how he adapts his team to how things are going. I don't expect that every coach can do that, but he is a good one to try to copy. I just want to see us have plan B and plan C to institute in a game when the opposition shuts down plan A.:)

Plan A is to pin our our ears back and fly...for Plans B & C, see A. :D

I wouldn't be surprised if some of the renovations are still finishing up during our pre-season games. IIRC, while they were doing the locker room renovations, the teams and refs were underneath section 9 (or somewhere around there), which, suffice to say, made for some "interesting occurrences".

Add to that new ice and crowd lighting and a new 4-sided video screen where the current scoreboard is. Strangely, there will no longer be room for the scoring information to be located above center ice, so the 4 scoring panels will be moved on to the catwalks. The shot counter on the west end is also being relocated as it will be blocked by the new Section 1 structure. The press box area is set to be expanded by one more row of seats.

They'll also be giving the ceiling a new coat of white paint. The whole place should be a LOT brighter with the new paint and new lighting. It was found that the current lighting conditions were far below NCAA regs. 100 foot candles are recommended, the Field House averaged about 63.

I believe the reason that construction hasn't started yet is that the Field House was/is still the alternate Commencement location since the ECAV Arena can't hold enough people.

Today is 28 May 2010. There are 127 days until RPI's next game.

This is based upon 2 October for the start of next season.

Re: RPI 2010 Off-Season Thread II -- We Can Rebuild Them. We Have the Technology!

I was thinking some more about the Captains for next season. I would be very surprised if JFK did not remain as the Captain. I suspect that Brutlag will wear an A again.

As someone (RC, I think) stated, we really don't know what goes on in the locker room which plays a large part in the choices. Ignoring that :), there seems to me to be three strong candidates to wear another A, Polacek, AAG, and D'Amigo. I'll take both Polacek and D'Amigo, so there will be three A's. (The women have already announced 3 A's.)

BTW, if Brutlag plays on the wing with Polacek and D'Amigo, we would have a Triple-A line. That should earn a facepalm. :D

Still nothing about Dolan, Higgs, Leboeuf, and Rogic in the directory. Also no Nolan Graham.
