Re: RPI 2010 Off-Season III -- How we learned to stop worrying and love the Class of '14

This year the limits are 1 January 1990 through 15 September 1992. Last year they were 1 January 1989 through 15 September 1991. So, BRO was eligible last year unless I have his birth date wrong.

I have said it several times before, but I think that Patrick Koudys (15 November 1992) is a shoe-in for next year.

That has to be a little disappointing for those born 16 September thru 31 December, as they only have 2 chances instead of 3.

It does indeed seem weird that it is done that way. Not that it made a difference, but JL was born on 15 September 1990, so he just snuck in two years ago.

Can you tell there is a small amount of tension? No matter how pragmatic I want to be, can't help but be anxious...shoulda' laid off the java this morning :o

If you weren't a little anxious this weekend, we would all think that there was something wrong with youi.
Also, I know what you mean about being a little part of the kids that you get to know.
I know that I am tied to every Engineer that I have watched since 1993. :)

RC -You made all the arguments very eloquently. Agree entirely with all the points made about the rule changes proposed. Why do some people think this game needs tinkering with? It is fine the way it is.

Well put. If one of these rules gets passed, I can just see the pep band throwing hard hats out to the crowd instead of T-shirts.

wait a sec..... that could be the freakout gift!

RC - nice job. I think the salient point in the piece is that the icing fiasco would be such a departure from the norm of the game that players would shy away from the NCAA as a possible stepping stone and would diminish recruiting, etc. Glad that you take the time to write these articles.

The cut off date, whether it is the 15th or the 20th...anyone born after that date goes into the next year. No one falls into the 'abyss' during his 3 years of eligibility.

nice job by the annoncers doing the NHL draft to touch on Mandi Schwartz' condition when her brother Jaden was selected by St. Louis. Jaden also gave out the web address when interviewed.

Amazing the dignity the parents showed...yes it's a joyous time but I was amazed that the Mom didn't lose it when he was called ...

Today is 26 June 2010. There are 104 days until RPI's next game.

This is based upon 8 October for the start of next season.

Jarred Tinordi was picked by Montreal in the first round. So we have a brother of a first round pick on the team.

Well stated opinions RC but I have to say the no icing proposal reactions and predictions are way over the top (and when I say this I am not referring to your opinion but the reaction of the coaches and everyone else). Given the reaction it seems pretty doubtful this change will take place.

On the other hand... the hits to the head issue is likely a 100% guarantee to happen. Anyone who coaches hockey and has been at a USA hockey seminar realizes this. It is an issue that is emphasized heavily. Yes some refs will make mistakes but most people in hockey would rather have a player miss a game because he was wrongly thrown out than have another miss a career because of head hunters on the ice. This change is also pretty much in line with where the NHL is headed.

I'm not one to take an "oh, it'll never happen" approach to anything, whether I want it to happen or not. If I can add my voice to the cacophony trying to shout down a stupid, stupid idea, I'm going to, and I'm going to do what it takes to ensure that it will not happen.

I never said it wasn't going to happen, I just said it was going to become a major problem down the line with implementation, a la CFB. Interesting that you take this to believe that I don't care about player safety.

You count me as surprised he went in the 1st. I guess having an NHL bloodline doesn't hurt. The kid is good, but I'm not convinced he's first round good. Time will tell.

Was with an asute RPI Hockey observer last night and he made the point that why would JL take SATs unless he plans on going to college and coming to 'Tute if he does well enough on test. Just saying.

I heard he is going to go to SUNY Canton so he can be even closer to home and continue to be a big fish in a small pond. :D
