Re: RPI 2010-11: Houston, We've had a Facelift!

And I thought the treatment I get from RPI's mall cops is bad....

Let's get a win tonight, and if we get hosed again, I have a feeling some drastic changes will be made to RPI's program.

Agree with you on the Mall cop crap. I have never seen a bigger tool in a uniform than that 20 something rent a cop that sat with the RPI fans in section 4/5 at a college hockey game. Cops like him is why I sometimes route for the Bad guys.
I feel we always get the worst of the officiating at Union. Someone should pull up the video of York getting run over 2 years ago as Union fired in the winning goal.
I doubt RPI would switch leagues over officiating.

Re: RPI 2010-11: Houston, We've had a Facelift!

The gazette has the presser with your coach where he shows the reporter from the Gazette the disallowed goal. Personally i didn't see anything that could be called. The refs need to do a better job tonight managing the game. ECAC hockey refs are worse than SEC refs.

I suspect the results of Apperts actions will have a dramatic effect but I wouldn`t bet a penny on weather it will be positive or negative. To date the only coach I have seen publicly call out the refs and then get the exact results he wanted resides in Ihaca.

Re: RPI 2010-11: Houston, We've had a Facelift!

That was my point. :)

I should be the last one to complain about typos, but they also managed to duplicate the paragraphs about two of the players.

All five are well worthy of the honor. Interestingly, Brinkworth was the only one that I didn't follow since he graduated the year before I arrived in Troy. Hopefully, RPI gets several more members of in the top 50. Oates, Juneau, and Laing at a minimum.

This figures to be an interesting list. When I think of all-time ECAC defensemen, Brian Mueller, doesn't jump to the head of the list.

Re: RPI 2010-11: Houston, We've had a Facelift!

From all reported information and the review of the video of RPI's last second goal I thought Leaman's remark about Appert in the TU article was classless.

Re: RPI 2010-11: Houston, We've had a Facelift!

Being that we should put Friday's game behind us, I ask the all-important question about whether we should start Part II when this thread reaches 1000 replies or just continue here? USCHO hasn't been closing threads since the "upgrade". If we start a new thread, are there any title suggestions?
My vote is for a new thread.
RPI 2010-2011: Part II-We Could Win Without Waved Off Goals!
Something like this, but not exactly... I think this just puts too much emphasis on recent history.
From all reported information and the review of the video of RPI's last second goal I thought Leaman's remark about Appert in the TU article was classless.
For those that are curious, the article and the quote:
Nate Leaman said:
I thought there was a lot of bumping of the goalies tonight at both ends of the ice. That's not the game. He (Appert) wants that call to be the game. That's what he wants to sell to his team. That's fine.
My only question for Coach Leaman is, "If there was a lot of bumping of the goalies, then why was nothing called until there were 7 seconds left?" And, Kincaid didn't end up sideways. He ended up on his knees, distraught that he had just given up the tying goal. It's a load of crap.

I think the most recent critical calls that I've seen that have been called correctly are the goal by a Vermont lady being disallowed on Sat Oct 9 because she batted it in with her hand and Harvard's tying goal on Sat Jan 23. I don't like to admit it, because the net was coming off its moorings, but the correct call was made. There have been so many other calls which have been incorrect, that they're too numerous to count or detail out. So incredibly frustrating.

Re: RPI 2010-11: Houston, We've had a Facelift!

Here's the best I ever got from that address:

"With regard to on-ice officiating, evaluation and oversight of the on-ice
officials is a constant process. The League staff constantly is exploring
all facets to elevate the standard of officiating. This process includes
in-person evaluation, review of video, comments and feedback from coaches,
etc."

I love the "feedback from coaches" item.
....that's more than I got in reply to my e-mail last night, "thankyou for your e-mail and your interest in ECAC hockey". With far too many games being ruined by very poor officiating I'm afraid my "interest in ECAC hockey" is beginning to wane.

O don't worry, mine started the same way:
We appreciate your passion for college hockey, and interest in ECAC Hockey.

Maybe I got more because I called him out that the League is driving away top talent with the shenanigans of the referees.
We, like you, want to see ECAC Hockey attract top-flight student-athletes,
and strive to do what we can to assist our member institutions in attaining
that objective.

Can you Imagine how the press would be all over year in year out sub par officiating if it involved siena hoops and the MAAC cnfrence? The negative publicity would have ended it the first year it started. Something has to be done. The first item should be all schools to spend the $ and get video review. If any school cries about cost go DIII. Goal or no goal is the most crucial call any ref makes and far to often it is called wrong.

It was Hicks who didn’t notice the obvious interference against RPI goalie Allen York on Kelly Zajac’s overtime goal at Messa Rink two years ago. clip from the mentioned game :http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SGajb34JlEk

rpi athletics youtube page had highlights but no showing of the potential goal
and last night: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qvTUUd1BcpA doesent offer much of a look

Good catch on Hicks being one of the guys two years ago. Man, that place (Messa) frustrates me:

1/2007: A goal scored on Alford went UNDER the back of the net
1/2008: A promotion goes terrible wrong when the zamboni gobbles up a t-shirt and there is a ~45 minute delay between the 1st & 2nd
2/2009: Aforementioned OT loss w/ questionable goaltender interference non-call. This is after an embellishment call against Malchuk late in the 3rd. And a "charging the goaltender" (what they annuonced) on Watts (who stopped short of the crease) which was changed to "rouging" in the official box score.
11/2010: The most recent chapter in the saga of my Union pain

Maybe I was numb last year and that's why nothing stands out in my mind.

And if you want to go back further, some may remember a Union game winning goal scored on Scott Prekaski when the net was clearly dislodged. Prompted a reaction from Fridge much like Seth's last nights.

And, can someone clear up for me, if CJ Lee alledgedly interfered with Kincaid, whats the ruling? Most times that warrants a penalty and I dont see one in the box score nor do I recall hearing the guys on WRPI say there was a penalty on Lee.

NCAA Rule Book said:
c. A player of the attacking team may stand on the goal crease line or in the
goal crease, or skate through the goal crease, unless, in the opinion of
the official, the player is physically or visually preventing the goalkeeper
from defending the goal.

PENALTY—If a goal is scored, it shall be disallowed. Faceoff at the
nearest neutral zone faceoff spot.

This would be the "crease violation" rule as opposed to full-on goaltender interference. Or at least I think so. It's pretty clear Hicks was making it up as he went so who knows what he actually ruled.

Of course that rule as written is ambiguous as hell. "visually preventing the goalkeeper from defending the goal"? It's called a screen, and it's part of hockey.

Re: RPI 2010-11: Houston, We've had a Facelift!

Here's a question: Whom does Mr.Hagwell work for ie:What is the process for appointing the commissioner....does he answer to anyone....and if so Who....and aren't those people really responsible for what goes on here for instance who or whom signed off on moving the league tournament to Atlantic City....which would be like the ACC moving their Basketball Tournament to Staples Center in Los Angles it makes no sense...who let that happen...Why is there not some sort of coherent TV package which would not only expose the game to more people but bring in revenue...The league has access to the names and adresses of every season ticket holder in the league has anyone here ever recieved anything in the mail concerning the tournament not only existing but enticing people to attend ie:discounts, hotel deals and any other sort of enticement. They are LAZY.Hagwells answer was put it out to bid take the highest bidder pocket his portion of the money to finance his operation and whatever happens happens. The officiating situation is only a microcosim of the whole problem. Thats why I advocate trying to get into Hockey East my fear is the ECACHL in on a downward slope I can see the day when we get surpassed by Atlantic Hockey and become the ugly readheaded step child of D1 hockey. What is the plan moving forward Mr Hagwell won't tell us.....WHY has he something to hide...maybe the fact that He doesn't seem to work very hard and has been ineffective is the reason we never hear from him.In the immortal word of Ronald Reagan are we better off today than we were 4 years ago...I think not !

Re: RPI 2010-11: Houston, We've had a Facelift!

I was shocked and appalled at Ken Schott's lack of journalistic integrity at the presser last night. Instead of his response being something to the effect that Seth will get in trouble over showing the video it should have been him asking to see the tape. Isn't that what journalist do, look for the truth. Stop being a stooge for the league and the home team, Mr. Schott. Report the facts, they are stubborn but that is your job. Appert was right to show the video and not gloss over the fact that his gentlemen got hosed by Hagwell and his refs. If you frequent the board Mr. Schott, I would love to hear what you have to say for yourself. Get the story right and dig for the facts.

He did ask the ultimate softball question to JFK, about how great Unions PP was. Gee, we played them 2 weeks ago in Lake Placid, their PP was good then too. Find out something we dont know Ken.
