Re: RPI 2010-11: Houston, We've had a Facelift!

Win or lose, an adjustment should be made. CC is used to something, and we should throw something new at them.
Only listened to the 3rd. period of the game last night.Followed the 1st.& 2nd.on twitter (Thanks RC).Seems like penalties were our downfall again. For anyone whom attended the game were they legit for the most part or was it a Homer job.Sounds like the disallowed goal MIGHT of been.Interested in anyones thoughts.

Re: RPI 2010-11: Houston, We've had a Facelift!

Most of the penalties looked legit. Until the diving started. Kennedy got called for int after the cc player looked like he was shot. Captain said he looked at the ref after the call and raised his eyes. Second PP goal by cc was due to another questionable call. To be fair Helfrich got a call after his but he is alright. Goal was good. Back of the net red light went on crowd cheered then the ref blew the play dead. He was in back of the goal & did not see the puck go in or the red light go on. Second ref tried to talk him out of it but he did not want to reverse his call

From listening to the CC radio feed it sounded like the whistle clearly blew before the puck went in. He called the whistle blowing it dead, then puck in the net and goal light on. With no hesitation said probably heading for a video review but will be disallowed. Didn't really seem like it was a question to him if it was even close to going in before the whistle, there was seemingly no doubt what the review what yield.

Also sounded like the diving went both ways from the radio feed.

Eyewitnesses have reported that the ref behind the net never signaled the goal, but the other ref did as did the goal judge, hence the light.

If the whistle had blown, then the scorer would have stopped the clock, locking out the goal lamps.

FWIW - the WRPI feed had the exact opposite take....ha ha.

That was our take also from sitting just off the goal line. It would be to strained to believe he blew his whistle then the puck was in then the red light went on then the RPI side cheered then he waved off the goal . You are correct that the clock continued else the red light gets a green light so to speak
or the green light gets a green light and the red light .. oh whatever

Re: RPI 2010-11: Houston, We've had a Facelift!

was at the women';s game when they made the Pirri announcement :) Sorry it's on this thread but this will be my first for actually watching an RPI kid play in the NHL....go ahead, I don't care...facepalm me ;)

Re: RPI 2010-11: Houston, We've had a Facelift!

good to see the boys fight back for the tie. TOOOOOO many penalties still. Still waiting for Rogic, no SOG in 2 games. Every body on the plane ride home needs to wait on York hand and foot

Re: RPI 2010-11: Houston, We've had a Facelift!

I guess that's why they play the whole game. RPI looked dead first two periods 1 shot on goal in the first 6 after two periods. They looked tired but in the third cc looked tired. second goal was the only one you could fault York on gave up a rebound right out front but he made enough good saves to make up for it. CC goalie plays deep in the net and gave up Bergin's blast from the point and last nite's Bailen Blast from the point. Burgdoerfer played a good game Foss had a ton of minutes as did Bergin & Captain K. Dolan and Koudys will be better than fine.

CC may have had more problems with the altititude than we did.

Re: RPI 2010-11: Houston, We've had a Facelift!

Nice to get out of the CC with a tie last night. A forward finally scored one for RPI. Onto Boston next weekend where the Huskies of Northeastern will be looking for its first win after dropping a 2-0 decision to BC last night.

Re: RPI 2010-11: Houston, We've had a Facelift!

Lost the cable feed here in the second intermision-cuaght up on the action on the scores thread later. Nice comback to get the tie. Early impressions after 2 real games and 1 exhibition-the defense will be better than fine. If we can hold a team like CC to 2 goals each night on the road, we will even be better as the youngsters on D get more experience. The goaltending was excellent. We expected that but sometimes you just don't know until you see it. The forwards still need to do some work-1 goal in 3 games is just not going to get it done. But there does seem to be signs of life. Nice to see Helfrich get on the scoresheet. Grades for the game-Defense gets a B+ Goaltending gets an A- and Offense gets a C-(they were working on a solid F going into the third period). As usual-just MHO.:)

Re: RPI 2010-11: Houston, We've had a Facelift!

I know that it is only two games, but this is the best defensive team I have seen at RPI (since 1993). Even when they were totally out of it in the first period, they still played well in the defensive zone. In the second period, having to kill five penalties, they were perfect.
I don't know how good CC is, but the entire RPI team played great defense the two nights in Colorado.
It was good to see a forward score a goal, now if we can get Chase untracked, we should have a very good year.
I don't know what happened in the first period, but I hope that they got that our of their system.

Re: RPI 2010-11: Houston, We've had a Facelift!

You're absolutely right about our defense. If they can pull the one-timers like that, and block shots and stuff opportunities, that will help to make up for the slow start that our forwards generally have each year, and escape with a tie or a close decision (unfortunately a loss in this case, but given the calls, it could have gone either way). Once the offense gets their rear in gear (remember that last year Chase Polacek didn't score a goal until the UNH game and then got blanked the next weekend), we're going to be a tough team to beat.

Re: RPI 2010-11: Houston, We've had a Facelift!

many positives out of this weekend. D looks good. I was tough on Yorkie (re:UNB game) and from all accounts he had an awesome weekend. That's good news. O will get going, too many talented guys upfront. See everyone in Boston on Fri.
