Re: RPI 2009 - 2010 Part II: I Believe in Seth Appert

I was at both games this weekend. There is not question we are a better and different team from last year. Our ability to skate the puck into our offensive zone is much improved. Power plays are fun to watch and only will get better.
We will have our loses but we will be competitive and hopefully end up much higher than most forecaster predicted. :D

The power play seems slightly improved from recent campaigns.

The power play is much improved, but last night should have yielded more goals( I think).....IMO it is to slow and allows the opposing team to pack it in a little.I think we should speed it up to get them running around a little more...The 5 on 3's featured all forwards and I'm a bit puzzled why Bergin saw very little PP time if any. I thought that was 1 of the reasons we recruited Him.IMO he is in large part one of the reasons we have been so successful. He's a solid defender, physical,an excellent puck handler, and is very smooth. He reminds me of Reed Cashman who played for Quinnipeac. If you attend a game focus on him for awhile,he has a sweet Game!!!

The power play wasn't horrible last night considering recent trends. Maybe in the near future we'll be disappointed with a showing like last night's but full marks for the improvements we've seen.

Yeah, that was something we noticed and were equal parts intrigued and perplexed with. After the timeout we rolled with Pirri, D'Amigo, Polacek, Kerins, and O'Grady - obviously, the five best scoring threats. It did play into a goal.

On the 5x3 it's all about speed and space. Move the puck and close in on the net. Then blast away. I think a blueliner QB for the 5x3 isn't as necessary as 5x4.

Looking at collegehockeystats.net, looks like Chase Polacek is leading the ECAC in the goal and points listings. Granted it is a little tainted because we have played more games than any other team in the ECAC, but he is averaging 1.4 points per game, which is still pretty good for 10 games.

If anything, I think the opponents are putting their best against "The People's Line" (aka freshman line), allowing Chase and company to have a field day. With Paul Kerins also stepping up, it will be interesting to see how our opponents pick their poison.

Even if for league assists, Chase is tied with crimson-who-must-not-be-named.

Wonder who the enemy will concentrate on next year when we add Laliberte to the mix. I just dont think there are that many teams out there who have enough defensive talent amongst there forwards to concentrate on 3 offensive lines that we will be able to put out there. I sense a lot of fun being an RPI fan in the next few years. Haven't had this feeling since the early 80's. :)

Polacek is tied for 3rd in the nation in both points and goals.

I may have missed this somewhere, but are you the one who coined "The People's Line," Will? I don't quite get the meaning of it...care to explain?

I also don't get it, but according to the WRPI broadcast on Friday, they coined it themselves. Most line names seem to be puns.

This one is awesome, though. I trust it runs in the fine tradition of the Red Army and its faux-communist motif - not to mention the facts that Houston Field House sits at the top of Peoples Ave and that the three linemates are quickly becoming fan favorites on the north side of the Field House.

That's the spirit we're looking for Doc ! :D

WRPI dubbed it "The People's Line" because the fans seem to love Pirri and D'Amigo after becoming "crowd favorites" during the exhibition game..... remember the point to Section 15 and the jersey popping?

Re: RPI 2009 - 2010 Part II: I Believe in Seth Appert

Absolutely-yesterday will mean a lot less if we have problems tonight. This team could get on a roll with a couple wins now. Next week is the always difficult (for us) North Country Trip. I think we have won both those games 3 or 4 times i the past 50 years-that should be another good test.
Hey Doc, if we continue to win 'em all at home, I can definitely live with a .500 batting average on the road...:D That said, I hope we mop the floor with Clarkson.... :D

I don't know if anyone mentioned it on the game thread, but Brown did more than its share of clutching and grabbing on our forwards last night, with nary a call. One particualr instance with D'Amigo being dragged around behind Brown's net was particularly glaring. Several instances of guys with handfuls of red jersey in their gloves. My point being, I think we can expect to see more of this crap from other burly teams. Hopefully our guys will continue to move their feet and out-hustle guys..the calls will come.

Re: RPI 2009 - 2010 Part II: I Believe in Seth Appert

According to the TU today, this is the first time in 12 seasons that RPI has started 2-0 in league play. I was a bit surprised to read that. Anyway, well done this weekend. It's got to be a lot of fun to be an RPI fan these days.

I saw it all night but the officials were consistent in that they weren't going to call that stuff. It's what Brown has to do to stay competitive with teams that are going to skate them out of the barn. Brown was also doing pretty well with the embellishment nonsense later on in the game. I recall #7 tossing his stick in the air a few times when he got it lifted. Again, thankfully the officials weren't foolish enough to buy into that.

Like RC said, speed kills and if teams are going to play that way (Hello North Korean Big Red) there are going to be some officials who won't stand for it and we'll reap the benefits.

And yeah, the "People's Line" thing I knew had to be a wrestling call-out. Don't worry, some of the propaganda meisters on the board can make adjustments themselves.
