Re: RPI 2009 - 2010 Part II: I Believe in Seth Appert

Can we get back to hockey? :)

According to Ed Weaver in the Record http://www.troyrecord.com/articles/2009/11/27/sports/doc4b0f714a1312c506961766.txt, Helfrich and Lee will be back, and Bergin is hopeful about playing.

The lines look like
Helfrich-Polacek-Lee
D'Amigo-Pirri-O'Grady
AAG-Kerins-Cullen
Vassel-Malchuk-Smith

forward scratches: Beauregard, Halpern, Morissette, Rabbani, Watts

Nothing about the goalie selection.

CJ Lee on the top line? Interesting.....

I like the idea of putting Kerins on that third line instead of the fourth. As I said before, he's a very underrated player, and I think with Alex's "special delivery" skills, he will perform well. He's tough in front of the net, and if Alex and Pat are trigger-happy tonight, it can only mean good things.

We still haven't seen much from the people's line as of late. I'm not sure if it's just akin to our opponent's best coverage being placed against that line, or if it's hype; I think it's the former given the games that I have seen, both on RPITV's website and in person.

I think that putting Lee with Helfrich and Polacek is a good thing to try.

I never notice which oppoent line is against which of our lines, but I suspect that The Peoples Line is getting the opponents' top lines. That isn't a concern to me because it springs other lines free. It definitely isn't hype having watched them now several times now on B2. Jacob Laliberté adding another dimension to the team next season could bring this team to the top of the ECAC.

RC, if that is overly optimistic, I am still concerned about whether JL will show up, although I think that he will. :p

Definitely true; I know that's why Pat Cullen went on that line, in order to give it some size. CJ Lee is of a pretty decent build, so it will help. I'll keep a close eye tonight and see what happens.

I'm sure JL will probably be at Houston tonight checking out the facilities, and will have a good decision by then. :)

Re: RPI 2009 - 2010 Part II: I Believe in Seth Appert

Love the fact that Lee will most likely be back-his injury seemed the one we were told the least about. Not happy about the Bergin concussion-usually Grade I resolves very quickly and their are no long term sequellae. As I had mentioned in an earlier post-there are some people for some reason (unknown though) who are more prone to concussions and their after effects. Since we just don't know his past history of these things, we do not know if he has had a problem with concussions in his past. We can only hope this resolves and we get back this very valuable player at 100% soon. Concussions seem to be additive so let's hope we have seen the last of these for him. In any case-hopeful is a lot better than doubtful!

Re: RPI 2009 - 2010 Part II: I Believe in Seth Appert

With how hard Lee works down low and the turnovers he forces, hes gonna be great on the top line which was missing that type of player

a little surprising that Rabbani was scratched over Vassel, though I haven't been too keen of Rabbani's play as of late and apparently neither has Appert

Kerins is gonna have some really nice chances with AAG&Cullen setting him up and we all know he can finish(which is unfortunately unlike AAG&Cullen so far)

Don't like that news on Bergin at all, the d is a couple notches lower without him and concussions are just horrible in general.

I guess we just watch and see how it plays out, I expect the people's line to put up 2-3 goals tonight; Pirri has got to be disappointed that he hasn't had his hat trick yet

I forgot that CJ Lee does a lot in front of the net. Chase is definitely trigger-happy, so look for CJ to provide some good screens and pick up the trash from the rebounds off Chase's hard shots.

Hopefully at least one line puts up a big number of goals. I'm still disappointed that we haven't had good reason to play Hawaii Five-O at the Field House, aside from annoying demands by the guy with the oar. :P

I would like to remind everyone in advance - if this weekend doesn't go as planned, it still doesn't mean anything. This weekend is preparation for next weekend, when we go to war.

I don't think it's us you have to worry about, RC. Just the morons that leave games early.

Sensible-but I think SA would prefer to go to war with some confidence or momentum or whatever we are calling a winning streak. I am just hoping that we can do the job tonight so that the late game tomorrow means something for the senior's sake.

"Auf dem Weg" is correct. I think that you could also say "auf dem Wege", and "Nummer" should indeed be capitalized.

As to what you added.

I thought it was a good game tonight. I really enjoyed watching the Halpern/Malchuk/Vassel line. They worked hard tonight.
I hope C.J. Lee is ok. I saw one of the trainers handing him a bag of ice during the third period. He was sitting off to the side. I'm loooking forward to tomorrows game against Union.

Yeah, I noticed Lee go off the ice seemingly re-injured late in the third. Hopefully it's nothing that a night's sleep won't take care of, and he'll be back out tomorrow.

Angers-Goulet looked much better out there tonight than I've seen earlier this season. Enjoyed seeing him finishing his checks whenever he had the chance. Sure looked like he's toughened up a bit in the past couple weeks, just like "puppy poop" that's left to sit out for a couple weeks. Maybe Appert was onto something with that comment in the Troy Record last week ;)

A couple of RPI's goals from tonight stand out. Malchuk's first goal came as he was falling onto his back - he managed to get it past Bentley's goaltender while falling backwards. Angers-Goulet's goal seemed to come from nowhere. A quick pass from Kerins just inside the blue line that got tipped by AAG from around the hash marks to Rank's right side. Rank had no chance of stopping it.

My immediate reaction after Bentley's shorthanded goal was "let's hope tomorrow's game doesn't go to a shootout." Bentley had the breakaway after a bouncing puck hopped over Polacek's stick, and their skater put it right over Merriam's stick side shoulder and in. Person sitting next to me commented that Bentley must have been taking notes during warmups.

Nice to see RPI win a game they were supposed to win. Hopefully they can keep the momentum through tomorrow night and win their own tourney for a change!

Re: RPI 2009 - 2010 Part II: I Believe in Seth Appert

Good game tonight - glad to see our offense wake up from its slumber over the last few days. I have to say Joel's diving goal to put us up 2-0 in the first was quite awesome, I loved the hustle. I was also impressed with Jerry's goal to make it 3-0...still not sure how that made it to the back of the net.

I hope York's injury isn't too serious. While Bryce played well enough tonight (I can't complain about his consistent 2 GAA), I'm a bit more comfortable with Allen between the pipes.

One last thought - if Union plays against us on Saturday like they did tonight against LSSU, we win easily. I saw all but the first period of the early game, and it was quite an embarrassment to skilled hockey. Union only 'won' because someone had to move on. Lots of sloppy passing, slow-as-molasses skating, and just general confusion on the ice.
