RPI 2009 - 2010 Part II: I Believe in Seth Appert

Re: RPI 2009 - 2010 Part II: I Believe in Seth Appert

I'mma be all the way real with you people.

About half an hour ago, I felt a change coming on. A downgrade in my ultra-hyper defensive, idiot wasting, manic personality called Red Cloud, my "Cactus Jack," into my "Mankind." A kinder, gentler version of Red Cloud.

Then, I read this on RPISPORT-L. And I just about exploded.

I don't care if the author is simply ignorant. The bedwetters and wearers of the plastic pants are coming out of the woodwork and their king has made himself known. I'd respond to this on the list but I don't want to drop bombs there.

Red Cloud isn't going anywhere.

Hi,
I am a fan of RPI hockey although its becoming increasingly difficult to follow the games. I didn't attend the Institute but have kept up with the fortunes of college hockey in general and RPI hockey in particular. After Army and Niagara I'm beginning to wonder what could be done in the future. The pre season write up of RPI in Inside College Hockey had said: " RPI has had three great recruiting classes so now there is no excuse for their poor showing. The fault lies elsewhere" To me that means coaching.

I understand that Coach Appert is very popular and a great recruiter but having been a third string goalie at Ferris State probably isn't the best background for a head coach position. I can't think of many head coaches that rose from that playing career. Snedden of Vermont comes to mind.

When I first started following RPI hockey, Quinnipiac was a community college, Union had no hockey team, Army, Niagara wouldn't even have been put on the schedule, the Ivy League hockey programs were a joke, and Bentley was a 2 year business school.

I seriously doubt that RPI could beat St. Norbert ( Div-III) at this point and probably would have a tough time with Bob Brinkworth's club team in Florida.

Like the rest of you I started to really get excited with victories over some good teams but I really think that the season will be another losing one. While winning the ECAC is a good goal, the prize is the NCAA Championship and there are so many teams that are far superior to RPI that I don't think that is possible. Winning the ECAC is realistically also not possible. I hope I'm wrong.

Oh. My. God. There aren't enough facepalms in the world for this garbage.

Where was this ****head three weeks ago when we were busy beating Yale handily? How about earlier when we were dispatching UNH? Beating Clarkson last weekend? Going the distance with Union before landing the knockout blow?

I don't know what the hell this moron is trying to get at in the second paragraph. What does his playing career have to do with now? Forget to mention his TWO NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP RINGS that he has? Guess what? That's more than any one individual EVER ASSOCIATED WITH RPI AT THE TIME OF HIS EMPLOYMENT/ENROLLMENT.

The third paragraph is an out and out lie, but regardless, let's hit on it. Quinnipiac is no longer a community college? APPERT'S FAULT. Union has a hockey team (psst, that we beat)? APPERT'S FAULT. Army (which was an ECAC member back in the day) and Niagara (didn't have a team back then) are on the schedule? OH MY GOD! WHY? OH THE HUMANITY! THEY SUCK SO HARD (except that they beat us, therefore they shouldn't have been on the schedule). The Ivy League programs were a joke? Unless you count Cornell's clutch-and-grabby, when were they ever a joke? How about Harvard? Is it Seth's fault that Yale and Princeton are better now?

The fourth paragraph is when I almost reached for my gun. Are. You. *******. Kidding. Me.

I say again:

Where was this ****head three weeks ago when we were busy beating Yale handily? How about earlier when we were dispatching UNH? Beating Clarkson last weekend? Going the distance with Union before landing the knockout blow?

This ignoramus can't think back to LAST WEEKEND when we were 3-0 in the ECAC, tied for first place, and riding a streak of 6 wins in 7 games.

WHAT is there that has indicated that this team is going to be horrible? Where is it? I've already pointed out reasons why the two recent losses have pretty much rolled off my back, but I guess for some ***holes, the details don't matter.

We're not going to win the national championship this year, so Appert has to go. That, quite frankly, is brilliant. What a disconnect. Hey, numbnuts, for the first time in a DECADE, we have the elements in place to actually compete for hardware, both at the ECAC and national levels. We have guys who openly talk about wanting to go for the gold - in the past, we've had more muted goals being spoken about.

I could say more but I won't because I'm way, way too ****ed off right now.

Re: RPI 2009 - 2010 Part II: I Believe in Seth Appert

I should really just respond to it with this:

Mr. Madison, what you have just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Re: RPI 2009 - 2010 Part II: I Believe in Seth Appert

I've been following this thread the entire season and RPI hockey for quite a while now and never really felt the need to post

but I just had to say something about what RC posted.

Holy freaking...losing faith because we lost to a hot Army goalie? A really hungry and powerful SLU team without 2 of our top forwards and arguably our best defender? An OOC Wednesday night game to a fairly good Niagara team with half our team sitting in the stands?
Clearly someone does not understand what 3-1 in ECAC play means and that our best players on the ice are Freshman who will only get better as the season continues.

I'll admit when Appert first game I was a skeptic, but without him we would still have second rate recruiting classes bent on middle of the pack in the ECAC for the next 20 years. He brought in highly skilled players and has a created a very effective offense oriented setup that is showing success against some of the best teams in the country, but I guess you had to be a Hobey Baker winner to be a coach or something?

Reading that post sickens me to the core and I hope that person can get some good seats over at Union because we certainly do not want him "rooting" for our team.

Re: RPI 2009 - 2010 Part II: I Believe in Seth Appert

I love the "increasingly difficult to follow the games" line. OK, so what if we **** the bed against Niagara. I dont really care. So what if we lost to Army after a great game that was pretty exciting to watch and had 40+ shots on net, controlled the play, and a TON of scoring opportunities. Fact of the matter is, the games are fun again. My kids WANT to go to the games because they find them exciting. They never really wanted to go in prior years. I too want ECAC and national championships, but mostly I want good fun hockey to watch and an exciting team. We have that. Its pretty easy...be a fan and support or go home and go away. The best days are ahead with this team and this coach.

Re: RPI 2009 - 2010 Part II: I Believe in Seth Appert

This is, quite frankly, the most exciting team we've seen at the Institute since the late 1990s. Bottom line.

You're not supposed to get bulletin board materials from your own fans. This reeks of false flag to me.

Re: RPI 2009 - 2010 Part II: I Believe in Seth Appert

Is someone failing to do this?

Should have read "and I give him credit for turning his game around." Merely giving credit for his hard work and better play this year. Happy to see his game turn around.

Look back to my previous posts. I agree this is the most exciting team to hit Troy in a long time which makes the loss on Wednesday harder to take.

Not if you're looking at it the right way.

I'm itchy for when the bedwetter brigade shows up on here.

F-cking clowns.

Wow do I hate listening through the grapevine..... He did say he never attended the Tute, so I can understand him not being loyal. However, maybe it's time to dust off the faux article from before and post it on that list?

Re: RPI 2009 - 2010 Part II: I Believe in Seth Appert

Tht is exactly what I expected when Appert benched those players.
However, the language used is stinging to say the least.
I expect to see AAG and Cullen carry this team in the tournament.
They have the tools and now they have to show it.
Of course, if the go sulk in a corner over this, they may not see the ice again this year.

Yes-and refreshing to see. Now with the Tournament up next they have a chance to prove it. The Bentley game now takes on much more significance. I just hope the injuries are not worse than first thought to Lee, Helfrich, and Bergin-we seem to need everyone to be firing on all cylinders. Reading between the lines in the interviews with SA-Lee may be the most serious of the injuries("several lower body injuries" I believe he said).

I doubt they will sulk. I seem to recall that Cullen was benched once while playing for Indiana and had a real good game when he returned.

Not if you're looking at it the right way.

Everyone isn't going to see this through your eyes which is the reason for this blog in the first place. It was hard to see this very talented team lose the game on Wednesday.

So in other words, you're just determined to see Wednesday's game through the prism of "we won, or we lost" and completely disregard every single extenuating circumstance?

I walked away from the Sacred Heart game with more concern than I did from the Niagara game. I think most right thinking fans did too.

I didn't go to either game, but I agree that the SHU victory was poorer than the Niagara loss.

I don't expect any sulking either, I was just trying to think of what the players response might be.
As I said, I think that they will lead us in the tournament. :)
