I want to say I told ya so. Oh well you became the number 1 win for niagara

Somebody had to take on the charity case and give them a win. Don't want them going home for the holiday with nothing to be thankful for.

Wow, what an insightful post.

The team got out worked, outhustled, outhit....you name it. NU was bigger, stronger and dictated play all night. They wanted it more and we were flat footed all night. The start of the 3rd period -- when you're thinking RPI will come out on fire -- and they never made it out of the locker room.
Oh well, what's 600 miles amongst friends? :p

I've got some recruit reporting to do --which I 'll do on the appropriate thread, to start out of trouble with RB...:D

Interesting he sat out Cullen and Anders Goulet. If you are not going to bring your A team why get on the bus? I thought those two players have actually picked up their game recently. Looks like the team was shut down physically and emotionally and I gotta say as a previous player I understand.

Appert was quoted saying something regarding AAG and Cullen's poor play the prior weekend. "We need them to play better... we need them to play consistently." They had 3 shots on goal between them in the St. Lawrence game and were invisible on the ice. He was benching them to send a message, and what better time to do it than a non-conference game? Make them sit in the stands and watch what happens so they're motivated to work harder in the games that matter.

He must not care about the wins because it is obvious this team is not deep enough to have 4 or 5 of their top line players out and be expected to win.

Yay, return of the bedwetters!

Re: RPI 2009 - 2010 Part II: I Believe in Seth Appert

Sounds like a midweek, trap game where RPI may have been looking a little beyond their 1-8 opponent, and Niagara played like the desperate team they must be by now.

I would not read too much into it, other than a good learning experience.

RPI is going to be fine.

RC...spot on.

I cannot believe it came out so soon. It's a bummer and a stinker. Leave it in the rear view mirror. I think both the players AND the coaching staff will learn from this. Cullen and A-G will be focused now...tough lesson to take and to sit in the stands as a healthy scratch and watch that loss, that'll give both of them more than enough to swallow.

The importance of games are not againast Niagara but against your ECAC opponents! Worrying about OOC opponents just doesn't get the primary mission accomplished...ECAC championship!

My 2 cents...GO RED!

That is an interesting comment to come from a previous player.
How many times did you step on the ice thinking "what am I doing here?", we can't beat these guys. Why did you even play the game?
The coach is trying to send a message to two players, and I am sure that he expected the rest of the team to go out and win the game without them.
As I have said many times before the game, we were in a position to throw in a clunker, and we did.
I will be very concerned if we come out the same way in the tournament.
But I will not jump off any bridges over the Niagara game.

yup-reserve judgement until the Bentley game. Another team we should handle-especially at home in the first game of our tournament.

Absolutely. If that game is mishandled - hell, if the tournament overall is mishandled, then we have problems.

Look at our last two losses - in the SLU game we have a one-goal loss without Bergin, Helfrich, or Lee in the lineup that featured a heck of a lot of good defense. Last night was an anomalous game considering that it was a long road trip on a Wednesday night and the team had a whole slew of regulars missing. The only thing I can really draw from it are the spate of bad penalties and the continued disappointing penalty kill.

We went out there with only two scoring lines last night instead of the usual three. What did you expect? Without Lee at 100% and no Helfrich, AAG, or Cullen, it's pretty obvious what went down - Niagara knew they just had to stop the People's Line and that was about it. Polacek is still dangerous, but it seems like he's less dangerous without Cullen around. The Kerins/Polacek/Halpern line had the only goal last night, but my guess is that Niagara played more lockdown against the People's Line.

The one benefit from last night's game was that it ensured that we didn't have a full week with no games but it does allow extra time for the banged up bodies to get back to full health. From what we've been hearing, we're going to be back at 100% for Bentley plus, hopefully, a little extra motivation from AAG and Cullen.

We're going to see the team at full strength for the first time since Appert put together the People's Line next Friday. Remember that.

Look, guys, I want to win every game we play too, but it just isn't going to happen. Stop slamming down on the panic button already. Two weeks from now no one is going to care about last night's game.

Although over the years I have disagreed with you at times-this time you are 100% on the money-in spades! It does get a little frustrating with the past 3 years-especially when we seem to be increasing the talent level each year.

Forget the stands, they didn't even travel! Only travelling scratches were Christian Jensen and Greg Burgdoerfer.

Of course they weren't at RPI yet when Appert sat a captain for playing poorly.

I thought the primary mission was a national championship... but yea, ECAC championship would be nice as well.

The excitement and anticipation for this year was there would be more than one scoring line and this team would have more success. You have 4 or 5 players out of the line up that are top players and you are back to what this team has been dealing with the past two years. Were players thinking Oh we can't win, I doubt it, but depth certainly helps the cause. I think Kerrins has had a very strong year and give him credit for turning his game around.

I was referring to your comment about Appert not caring about wins.
If he felt that a couple of players needed a kick in the pants, then he kicks them.
That doesn't mean he doesn't care.
True, we are not at good without those players, but better to fix it in an OOC game than waiting for when we face Cornell.
Coach knows what he is doing.

Re: RPI 2009 - 2010 Part II: I Believe in Seth Appert

Is someone failing to do this?

Yes, Paul Kerins is a very underrated player. Although he plays on line 3 or 4 most of the time, he plays hard each and every game. Garrett and Justin are very good matches for him when it comes to a line.

I can agree with most of this, although if VORP existed for hockey I suggest Vassel's would be fairly low, especially compared to the rest of the team.
