Not sure what rankings you're speaking of. We beat UNH and Yale -- that makes at least two nationally ranked teams above us...and we defrocked Union in their barn, which according to some crack-fueled polls, Union was ranked above us as well..

#26?

Re: RPI 2009 - 2010 Part II: I Believe in Seth Appert

Yeah, it's nice when they show up for once. I'm sorry, but until greeks regularly come to games in which they are not being honored, I can't take their 'enthusiasm' seriously (the shirtless section on Saturday seemed to get much quieter once they had officially won the evening's 'most spirited' award). Over my six years as a season ticket holder, greek attendance at games has seemingly plummeted.

For those that do show up regularly to games, hoorah. Keep cheering for our Engineers until your throats are cherry red.

The greeks have been showing up fairly regularly in the time that I've been coming to games (starting inconsistently in 2001, becoming a regular thing for me in 2003 and ever since). Their is regular attendance by Chi Phi, SigEp, Acacia, Pi Lam, Lambda Chi, and FIJI, and that's just in the area of sections 15, 16, and 22.

Traditional arrangements? What ever happened to the first house in hockey line gets the best seats? We slept out for weeks back in the day. Of course we had a keg to keep us company at all times then. My understanding is that this would be frowned upon these days.

Hockey line was on life support for a while, and was killed by Go Be Red (now Red Army). I remember it being kept alive for a bit by TEP, but they would be the only ones in line until right before they went on sale. It may be hard to get the traditional hockey line going again, unless of course RPI continues to beat nationally ranked opponents.

According to my sources, there has been some infighting among Greeks when it comes to who sits where - the traditional seating arrangements have been upset, apparently, in Sections 14, 15, 16, 22, and 33, and it is to the detriment of the atmosphere.

For my money, though, Sections 15 and 16 do sound pretty good. I'm disappointed that 22 isn't as rambunctious as it used to be when I held court there.

Yeah, well, for years after the supports were removed, houses settled into "their" sections. Regardless of where they were in line, pretty much house was satisfied with where they had seats and everyone stuck to their own sections. That seems to have changed in recent years and it has led to some infighting, old man.

I haven't seen any infighting among the houses, other than a few years ago when one house (i don't recall which one) was going to take the seats that Pi Lam had been in for a few years, until Pi Lam threatened to sit behind them and throw stuff at them for the entire season. I still get my season tickets with my house, and haven't seen or heard anything about any infighting.

I know my experience with RPI hockey is limited compared to a number of posters here, but I've always seen a good number of greeks at the games, and haven't seen any real arguments about seats.

UNH is not currently ranked above us. We beat Yale, tied Alaska, and lost to UMass.

Why would you even care about rankings now. Its college hockey. Besides the top 5 or 6..... the rest is bull. Come to think of it so are the top 5 or 6.

Went to Fri night game missed Sat but listened to the Bobby Brinkworth interview on the radio. Fun interview, he was a true RPI hockey hero. Back then he got a chance for the show but a chronic groin injury ended his NHL plan. Career wise he got close, a lot closer than 99% of college players in that era.

Slammin the door on Yale in the 3rd was big real big

Slammin the door on Brown may have been bigger

I think he's talking about teams that we played when they were ranked. That would be UNH, Alaska, and Yale, and we're 2-0-1 in those games.

Victories have been hard to come by for this team in recent years. Ergo, the faithful (myself included) get pretty excited by them these days. That several of them have come at the expense of teams that a few knowledgeable people thought were NC$$ tourney material induces the sort of euphoria one typically only finds at the local opium den.

Well, DrD can say what he meant himself, but I interpreted his remark as referring to the current poll.

A name out of the past, Kaiser. The bandwagon is growing. :D Welcome aboard.

Re: RPI 2009 - 2010 Part II: I Believe in Seth Appert

I was just reading a copy of the RPI Fiscal Year 2011 Performance Plan and came across this:

Strategy 6: Improve identity by creating a consistent athletic mark to be utilized by all sports programs on uniforms, correspondence, apparel, and promotional materials. (J. Knowlton) (F4.1)
Action 1: Insure all athletic branding utilizes new marks and logos.
Action 2: Develop a plan to increase revenue through a licensed apparel program.

This makes me doubt we'll be seeing Puckman on official merchandise much longer.

I think we should sell corporate logo rights to our uniforms (similar to the European Soccer leagues). That way we can give bigger raises to the Instutute's administrators.

Fittingly or not, UNH was a nationally ranked (16?) team when we played them. With Yale that makes two wins vs. ranked squads not 1 as Doc referred. As Beman mentioned polls are worthless this time of year, but if someone is going to refer to them, accuracy is key. :D

Wicked-I was simply referring to the current poll of ranked teams-we are 1-1-1 against teams ranked above us at that time. In no way did I mention what our record was against ranked teams at the time of playing them-gee, everyone sit bakc and take a breath. It was a simple statement of fact from the current poll. :)

Re: RPI 2009 - 2010 Part II: I Believe in Seth Appert

KRACH has UNH at #7, RPI at #49...:D

It is too early for any polls to mean much of anything. However, things should start to play out a bit soon. It will be interesting to see how we do in the North Country-not usually a place we come home from without having to lick our wounds. They are crying up north about how this is not a strong year for either of them-I will believe it when I see it-too many times I can recall us going up there with high hopes only to have one or both teams destroy us. I like the way we have looked at home this year so far-with the exception of the Army result. But this is the first chance to see how we do on an ECAC road trip.

Apologies, I didn't renew my clairvoyant license for 2009. If you had just included "current poll" all this misguided angst could have been avoided...:D  :D

Don't try to trick us by bringing the topic back to actual hockey Doc...:D

As I stated here earlier, I fully expect both teams will come out with all they've got this weekend.
