Re: RPI 2009-10 Part IV: The Boys are Back in Town

After the game he was on crutches but he wasn't really leaning on them much. It's his knee, but to me it wasn't obvious which knee it was. Sounds like he doesn't expect to miss much time, if any.
Were you in attendance RC?

Re: RPI 2009-10 Part IV: The Boys are Back in Town

I spoke to Seth at the pre game festivities yesterday and asked him if the team was over the loss to Brown the previous night.
He said that they were, but he wasn't. It was clear that he was still upset over that loss.
I am sure that by the end of the night, he got over it.
In the 17 years that I have been following the Engineers, I have not seen them play a more complete game.
They dominated in every situation on the ice.
Seth should show that game film before every game the rest of the way this season.
Great performance.

I was and I was also at the pregame festivities where Seth spoke to the assorted alums in attendance. Both were good times, for sure.

I saw you after the game was over but I didn't put two and two together until you had already left! Freakout, maybe. :)

Couldnt agree more. What a performance! The RPI crowd was awesome, almost like being at HFH. Babo it was a pleasure meeting you. :) The Brown loss Friday was hard to swallow, id like to have that one back as well as the Harvard and Union games to give us the extra 5 points in the standings. Oh well, woulda, coulda, shoulda time to move on to next weekend and get 4 more points. Go Red!! :D

Re: RPI 2009-10 Part IV: The Boys are Back in Town

Another Great comeback game from a poor friday game.If only they could/would play both games of a weekend series like the saturday effort they would be in first.

I felt the games biggest moment came when D`amigo got leveled and looked to be done and then was able to come back. I think that had a big positive effect on the entire team.

I love reading /listening to the losing coaches after a loss. I feel It is especilly telling of their personality. The coaches who can`t muster up an even half hearted compliment for the team that just beat them really catch my attention which is exactly what Keith Allain just did.

I just read Allain's quote in the USCHO recap and had almost the exact same reaction. Apparently he wasn't actually watching the game last night if he can honestly say that the only reason we won was because Yale didn't play as hard as they should have. Yale played pretty freakin' hard. We played harder. We outhit them, we beat them to a lot of pucks, and had much better puck control than we've seen recently. The difference maker was we did exactly what we had to in order to counter their type of game. And that's something you have to credit your opponent for.

One thing about Seth is that he never hesitates to complement an opponent when they do something better than us. "Give such and such a lot of credit, they outhustled us all night" and things like that. Pretending that the only thing that factors in a loss is how your own team plays is a quick ticket to earning a label as an a-hole.

I think I'm personally biased because listening to SA speak at the pregame reception reminded me of what a true representative of the game he is. Not just RPI Hockey, but RPI as a whole, and college hockey as a whole. He spent a fair bit of time talking about the fight between college and Major Junior and you can just tell by listening to him that he's a guy who really cares about the game. As I said to everyone with me - it's no wonder we're landing the recruits we are with him in charge. RC said to me - he's the kind of guy who you talk to for five minutes and just absolutely want to get to know better. I can only assume players get the same feeling with wanting to play for him.

The RPI crowd was great and that's in large part because of the team. Sometimes the crowd can pick up the guys on the ice, but yesterday the boys were flying right out of the box - taking the home crowd out of the game and giving us plenty to cheer about.

Babo I'm sure knows that one great thing about having her son join a program with such tradition is the depth of the fan support. I'm a lightweight as I gave up my season tickets about 12 years ago when commitments with my kids made it too difficult to get back to Troy on a regular basis. However, I've been to every road game within my region, both here in CT and back when I lived in eastern MA, and still get to the occasional game at HFH. I've always been amazed at the truly dedicated fans that follow the team everywhere. I have a friend (who was actually my high school social studies teacher) and his wife that have travelled to virtually every game, in good times and bad, since before I matriculated. They're amazing and I actually worry a bit if I don't see them - and there are others in the travelling contingent just like them. I see this team starting to bring back the fun they so richly deserve.

The link above is for a USCHO article on last night's game. It starts with "Tonight’s game before another sold out crowd of 3,486 at Ingalls Rink...". I have a hard time believing that Ingalls even holds that many, but if it does, there were a ton of empty seats last night, and if not for the RPI fans it wouldn't even have come anywhere close to capacity. Thus, I have a hard time believing that even if last night's game was sold out, that it was yet another in a string of them as the article implies. Even before there was any scoring, the Yale fans that were there sounded like they were at church.

Re: RPI 2009-10 Part IV: The Boys are Back in Town

I agree that tonight was special...the boys played relaxed and confidently. The Yale players were frustrated early on. I think RPI surprised them by, not just sticking with Yale's speed but, stepping on the accelerator the whole time. PK superb. PP still a bit tentative in the shot department. Individually, the RPI boys were unbelievably aggressive. Yale has 2 big boys (25 & 28) who had NO impact on our boys. Arcobella (sp) and Backman were rendered ineffective. There were few mistakes and smiles on faces even when they were grinding. Met Redhead (great meeting you) and Hubster & I were impressed with the RPI fans...great night for RPI...Wicked, were you there?
Sadly, no. I was a late scratch thanks to a mind-numbing ear infection ...a 1st for me --never thought these suckers could be so painful..wow. Feels like someone's drilling my skull... But I'm glad my absence let the boys play like they did !

After two decisive losses to RPI, he has nothing to say. Everybody knows that RPI was flat out better in both games.

I can't believe that I was in the same room with Red Cloud and GRussinko yesterday it did not get to meet either one of them.
The RPI crowd at the game was as least as loud at the Yale crowd, maybe because we had more to cheer for.:D

The article is wrong. Attendance was 3,500, which is the new capacity after renovations. The place was full. Did you happen to notice fans were standing two and three deep, wrapped around the entire length of the concourse? Lots of people buy seats but opt to stand. And to be fair, there wasn't a lot to cheer about for Yale fans. No goals, not even many good scoring chances. RPI dominated, and took Yale totally out of its game.

Re: RPI 2009-10 Part IV: The Boys are Back in Town

BTW...I was waiving like an idiot at you, GRussinko, but you were in a euphoric state of celebration with your crew :D

Allain may have thought his team was better, but we spoke with a loyal Yale fan after the game and he was VISIBLY shaken at how we shalumped them...twice...:p

Lots of lunch pail grittiness showing itself. But I still love the smile on each of the RPI player's faces as they go about their 'bidness'

I appreciate the waves from Seth Appert after the game and Chase Polacek after he scored his goal.
The team was definitely aware of the RPI cheering section.

When you get a big enough group out on the road, they take notice, especially when you're loud and boisterous.

They certainly took note of us in Detroit and it's good to see they took care of you guys in gun wavin' New Haven.

Re: RPI 2009-10 Part IV: The Boys are Back in Town

I don't mean to cause alarm and worry here, but today's trades by the Maple Leafs should have us take notice of what's going on with that organization for obvious reasons. They cleared out a lot of their veteran players to both Calgary and Anaheim today and will be giving more of their young guys prominent roles with the big club.

Again, I'm not sounding the worrywart alarm here, just saying that notice should be taken.
