RPI 2009-10 Part IV: The Boys are Back in Town

Re: RPI 2009-10 Part IV: The Boys are Back in Town

I recalled a Joe Juneau article fairly recently and found it at http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/vault/article/magazine/MAG1109577/index.htm. The Institute is mentioned fairly prominently - degree in three years and all that.

There has also been some mention regarding Erin Crocker, the racing driver. That storyline is a bit of a bummer and I didn't feel like tracking it down.

Was that Clarkson freakout win really nearly 8 years ago? Still seems like yesterday, down by three in the third and pulled out the win. My all time favorite in the last 10 years for sure. The Fieldhouse was jumping and everyone I knew was hoarse from screaming. Not to go too negative, but the pickings are too slim for favorite games in the last ten years. Lets hope the next ten gives us a much better selection.

I think that the better question is when was there an RPI mention concerning a current player.
I remember the Juneau and Crocker mentions, but they were well after their attendence at RPI.

Is the RPI-Harvard game going to be on the internet today?

Re: RPI 2009-10 Part IV: The Boys are Back in Town

It seemed more like an exer-cycle, given his motions.

That's my guess...a very common post game practice for hockey players. Many NHL teams ask/require players to ride 8-10 mins. or so after a game...especially if they have a game the next day... helps flush the toxins out of the muscles, etc.. or that's what I recall my friend the PT explaining to me once. Doc D. can give us the medical/technical low-down. :D

Wicked-Most just feel it allows the muscles to slowly relax after strenuous exercise and slow peddling on a bike machine does that without putting much strain anywhere. Personally I think it is a lot of Hooey. I never saw Rocket Richard peddle a bike after a game and he was ready to go everytime he laced up;)

During the women's games, I commonly saw the scratches on exer-cycles.

Coach Burke does use it as a disciplinary tool from what I remember. In a game against Quinnipiac in 2007, Mel Guillemette took 5 and a game misconduct in the first period for hitting from behind and spent the remainder of the game in the tunnel next to section 44 riding the bike while she watched her teammates have to finish the game without her.

I dunno, I just know they do it..I guess we'll leave it to Chris Thompson and his fellow Kinesiologists...:D

Well it is an exercise tool...so if they're not skating they're at least getting a leg and cardio workout in. The post-game use of the bikes has to do with muscle recovery...and that's the limit of my limited knowledge of the topic....ha ha

Yeah well he probably had a Molson or two between periods too, but that doesn't mean its a good idea...though it sure didn't hurt him ... :D

Whatever he did Wicked-I would take an entire team of forwards like that. As a NY Ranger fan I hated him. Once he crossed the opposition's blue line he just got this look in his eyes-like here I come, try and stop me! Perhaps it was the Molsons;)

Re: RPI 2009-10 Part IV: The Boys are Back in Town

I'm sure its been covered here, but do we have any solid explanaation as to why we're playing at 4PM today? Is it simply so Harvard can be home drinking warm milk in their fuzzy slippers in a timely fashion? :D

Re: RPI 2009-10 Part IV: The Boys are Back in Town

I believe it's due to a high school hockey game. Either that or a big event at ECAV that no one will probably go to.

BTW, I looked at the standings, and the difference between 1st and 8th place is FIVE points. The season, though only halfway through, is up for grabs, and anyone can take it. RPI needs to be on their game and fight for every point.

Re: RPI 2009-10 Part IV: The Boys are Back in Town

Tough ending to the game tonight...I think we battled hard but gave H too many chances in the 3rd period.

Merth's drop pass to no one behind our net with about 2:30 to play led to a turnover and faceoffs, possession leading to a goal. And then we iced the puck when H had their goalie pulled which negated our chance to ice the game. Hard fought game, D'Amigo got mugged again tonight, including a hit from behind that should have been a 5 Minute major...it was no different then the call Bergin got tossed for at Q...same old inconsistent ECAC zebras...lucky for us Jerry wasn't seriously hurt.

Two recruits at the game tonight -- let the guessing begin. One kid was seriously tall - my guess is better than 6'4" - short dark hair. The other kid had blonder hair about 5'9-10. I saw them again after the game behind Sect. 1 looking at the blow up of the RPI schedule. Not sure is they were traveling together...I think maybe as I only saw one adult with them. One of you computer geniuses can run a scanning program looking for Jr. players over 6'3" should be able to narrow it down for us...

1) We have got to learn how to close out games. We have let 3rd period leads slip away several times this year and it will cost us in the standings.
2) Wish you had a camera with you for the recruits. A picture would have helped search for these fellows. Of course I like the size of the second boy;)

Merth's drop pass to no one behind our net

Merth was one of the most ineffective players on the ice this weekend. He was the slow guy in every puck race last night, and tonight, while hustling a little better, his decision-making was poor at best. At this point I wouldn't mind seeing him benched for a game, as I wonder if he's helping or hurting more the way he's playing right now.

Coach called out that a certain defensemen didn't do very well decision-wise on the 3rd goal... there were 2 defensemen out there, and I would put money down it wasn't Bergin; I can't remember who was where, I'd have to look at a replay, if TWCS decides to replay the game (which they probably won't, at least in this market; the Albany games don't go on demand here; only Colgate).

Coach showed two years ago he has no shame in benching a captain after Ornelas wasn't up to snuff after the Colgate game in Hamilton. Does this mean we may see Zarbo play against Brown? Coach did mention that he wants Brutlag to stay forward...
