Re: RPI 2009-10 Part IV: The Boys are Back in Town

Still annoyed that the band couldn't be bothered to play at the game...a whopping 3 days before classes start for the semester. They won't be there tomorrow either. The lack of dedication from the current group of students, and particularly leadership is pretty disappointing.

I was blown away when I saw that the band was not at this game. In 2002, I remember coming in shortly after New Years to conduct a 10 person skeleton crew, just so that we would have a band there to support the team. I even had to get a hotel, because I was locked out of dorms until start of term. During my time in the band, missing an RPI home hockey game was not an option. This band needs to get their act together.

Not a pretty win at all. Both teams played poorly, Dartmouth trapped the crap out of everything, clutched, grabbed, played half the game with 6 skaters, and the officials somehow made it all worse. But we got the 2 points and that's what matters.

Wow - that's pretty lame. Actually its really lame. Say what you want about Clarkson, but you'd never hear about their band not bothering to show up for a home game. I wasn't sure what was going on - as I knew the students were back.

Re: RPI 2009-10 Part IV: The Boys are Back in Town

Just picked up the score for this game. Way to go boys! Just reading the few posts relating to the game, it sounds like we played sort of lackluster. That's when we need the goalie to make a difference and it looks like York was there to pull us through. From the box score it appears that the game looked even if looking at shots, penalties, etc. I'd be interested in a game report. I had an intention of leaving work early in Lake Placid and getting to the game, but it was not to be.

From the sound of things we didn't play well, but good teams find a way to win they don't play well. So I will take it. An ECAC win any way you get it is big. We've been on way too may bad ends of "coulda, woulda, shoulda's". Way to gut one out, boys! Let's have it ready to bring tomorrow.

If I never see John Murphy do another game it'll be too soon. That guy is a disgrace.

That said, RPI absolutely stole this one given that they played, at best, 8 minutes out of 60. The team looked sloppy and disinterested otherwise and Peter Merth played perhaps his worst game as an Engineer. He was a certifiable nightmare out there.

I could see the sketchy effort in warmups because guys were just going through the motions, not connecting passes and half-arsing it throughout.

Allen York again saved this team's skin, it'd be nice if they could give him a cushion to relax on.

Re: RPI 2009-10 Part IV: The Boys are Back in Town

Gutty win tonight after getting out worked for the better part of two periods. Credit the squad for refusing to give in... this is a resilient bunch.

Paulie Kerins really showed some great burst in rush from the blueline that led to the GWG...flat out hustle play. Patty Cullen and Helfrich scored the tying goal off the face off...essentially doing it two times in a row after winning the initial face off (which we one) was blown dead. Yorkie threw the blanket over it to preserve the win...this is one we can credit him for standing tall.

I may be the only one on here to say it, but Eric Burgdoerfer is playing some excellent hockey lately...I thought so after seeing the Q'pac game and thought it again tonight...he was a shut down guy in our end tonight. Mobile, excellent position and physical at the right times. Great job.

well wait until you get hicks and o'brien.....was one of the worst called games I have seen this year.....Harvard has a good team but a team that likes cheap shots....ran goalie about 3 times.....had a blatant punch to the head right in front of refs...awful...awful....good luck tomorrow

Re: RPI 2009-10 Part IV: The Boys are Back in Town

Someone get some cheese for that wine!

Should be a good one tomorrow

I've got a feeling tomorrow may be a more frustrating game, penalty-wise, as we will have the same officiating crew that called 34 minutes in penalties tonight in Schenectady - Bryan Hicks and Andy O'Brien, with Taggart and Boylan on the lines. Those penalties included a tripping penalty called against Harvard just 11 seconds after they scored a power-play empty net goal.

Granted, merely looking at the box score for the game doesn't tell the whole story. At the same time, hopefully RPI realizes that penalties that went uncalled tonight will likely be called in the Harvard game tomorrow afternoon.

As I commented to a couple friends after the game - thank goodness for the two goals RPI scored in the third period. If it weren't for the goal horn, I likely would've fallen asleep in the stands. I breathed a sigh of relief at the end of the game, thankful that it was over and that RPI managed to find a way to win.

I'd have to agree. He seems to have greatly improved this season. He's making great defensive plays, and managing to avoid taking boneheaded penalties that got him into trouble in the past.

Call me whatever you want....

Should be a great one tomorrow and may the better team win!

and I now have vertigo from Paul Kerins' interview.
When I read your post, I didn't know what you meant. Now that I have watched the interview, I wonder what Kerins was doing. Was he interviewed while on a treadmill?

It seemed more like an exer-cycle, given his motions.

Press conference from last night's game. Appert definitely wasn't happy about the first half of the game, and I now have vertigo from Paul Kerins' interview.

If Appert had been happy I would have been ticked. The first period was UGLY. The second was slightly better and the third was just enough. Hate to say it but if Dartmouth gets better goaltending we lose. The upside of the game is that RPI played poorly and found a way to win anyway which is a good sign. I was concerned with this weekends game and after last night I still am. Will need 100% better effort this afternoon to beat Harvard.

Re: RPI 2009-10 Part IV: The Boys are Back in Town

the last 3 years we would of lost this game
york only 5 goals against last 4 ecac games wow

Re: RPI 2009-10 Part IV: The Boys are Back in Town

that was the worst refed game i have seen this year

awful dartmouth hit jerry from behind 3 times no calls
they had too many men multiple times no calls
im surprised there wasnt a scrum at the end of the game

rpi kept there discipline

Re: RPI 2009-10 Part IV: The Boys are Back in Town

Anyone recall the last time RPI hockey got a mention in Sports Illustrated???
I recalled a Joe Juneau article fairly recently and found it at http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/vault/article/magazine/MAG1109577/index.htm. The Institute is mentioned fairly prominently - degree in three years and all that.

There has also been some mention regarding Erin Crocker, the racing driver. That storyline is a bit of a bummer and I didn't feel like tracking it down.

Was that Clarkson freakout win really nearly 8 years ago? Still seems like yesterday, down by three in the third and pulled out the win. My all time favorite in the last 10 years for sure. The Fieldhouse was jumping and everyone I knew was hoarse from screaming. Not to go too negative, but the pickings are too slim for favorite games in the last ten years. Lets hope the next ten gives us a much better selection.
