Re: >>>>>RIT TIGERS... The Polisseum, just like the Ritter only more of us!<<<<<

If not already posted, this afternoon's matchup will be streamed (for free).

No. 8 Gopher Hockey hosts the 24th annual Mariucci Classic this weekend with No. 7/9 UMass-Lowell, No. 18 Merrimack and Rochester Institute of Technology all making their second-ever appearances at the traditional holiday tournament. Minnesota takes on Merrimack to open the event at 7 p.m. CT on Friday, Jan. 2 (TV: FOX Sports North PLUS; Stream: BTN2Go; Radio: 1500 ESPN/Gopher Radio Network)

while UMass-Lowell and RIT play on Friday at 4 p.m. CT. (Free stream on GopherSports.com).

Minnesota will play either UMass-Lowell or RIT on Saturday, Jan. 3 at 7 p.m. (Stream: BTN Plus; Radio: 1500 ESPN/Gopher Radio Network) while Merrimack will play the other opponent at 4 p.m. (Stream: Free on GopherSports.com).

About the Mariucci Classic
Named for the legendary John Mariucci, who was an All-American player and coach for the Gophers, the Mariucci Classic is now in its 24th year. Minnesota has won 13 of the previous 23 tournaments -- last doing so in 2012-13. RIT returns to the Mariucci Classic as the only team in the field to beat Minnesota at the event, finishing second in 2007-08 while UMass-Lowell finished second behind the Gophers in its only Mariucci Classic appearance in 2005-06 and Merrimack finished third at the event in 2004-05.

The University of Minnesota is 32-12-2 all-time at the Mariucci Classic (Minnesota’s two ties have been decided by shootouts with a win in 2007-08 and a loss last year vs. Colgate).

Has anyone been able to find the free stream? No luck here.

I tried three browsers (Firefox, IE, Chrome), not working for me either.

At any rate, looks like RIT needs to pick it up a bit (3-0 UML). The next goal will probably decide how the rest of the game goes for RIT.

Leaving shortly for AIC-Army.

The video is free, viewing it is another story. Tried it with Chrome, IE, Firefox and Safari but no joy.

Should be up now. Came up late 2nd.

These Tigers never quit (which is good for charity, at least), but we're still in a situation where any mistake ends up in the back of our net.

Re: >>>>>RIT TIGERS... The Polisseum, just like the Ritter only more of us!<<<<<

RIT has the late game tonight in the consolation game with Merrimack defeating Minnesota. Either the Gophers are going to come out all guns firing, or they will be flat from giving so much in their first game. My hunch is the former, and RIT will need to hang on and hope to survive the storm.

The Tigers seemed to play well at times against Lowell, but could not finish some of their chances. If they can give a good effort against Minnesota, that's all we can hope for.

BTW, I expect Rotolo to get the start. Nothing against Ruby, but it's a good time to get him some action while in non conference games.

I was a little disappointed with MacLean letting in two softies. I think two went under his pads, through the five hole.

Regardless of who starts in goal tonight I believe that the one thing RIT has going for it is the fact that except for a few of us on this thread there are not a whole lot of college hockey fans that are giving RIT any chance at all against a Minnesota team that will not want to lose both games of their own tournament. With nothing to lose maybe RIT can play with a type of intensity and smart reckless abandon that might surprise the college hockey world and give RIT a little swagger heading into the second half of the year. Different RIT teams have done it before so lets hope for the best. Go Tigers.

Great game played by the Tigers tonight in spite of the loss.... WITR guys called Rotolo's performance "Outstanding". They always seem to play better in front of Rololo.... hope we see lots more of him.

Not something I would normally say after being outscored 10-5 on the weekend but I really like what I saw from the Tigers this weekend.
A) They didn't seem to let their frustration over penalty calls get the best of them like we have seen other times this year, they took the officiating for what it was and put together a decent penalty kill considering the ice size
B) Nice to see secondary scoring, especially seeing Schuler perhaps hitting his stride after early struggles since his return
C) Nice to see the staff switch up the defense with Holland and Shumway after the friday game, turnovers cost us all weekend and I thought those two played well together
D) Thompson Mitchell and Miller in particular stuck out to me for their willingness to eat a puck for the team
E) Played simple hockey, seemed to cycle 4 lines more than we've seen in the past and used the boards and glass to get clears and breakout passes instead of trying to force a pass through the neutral zone and turning it over
F) Rotolo played well, as we know he is capable of doing. That said, I thing it would be a mistake for Wayne Wilson and co. to make him feel secure in the starter position, they both seem to play better when they're competing for ice time.

If we can play inspired hockey like we did Saturday night this team is in better shape than one might think.
Just my 2 cents

Re: >>>>>RIT TIGERS... The Polisseum, just like the Ritter only more of us!<<<<<

Getting secondary scoring is huge. They need to take some pressure off the MGM like for scoring. We know there is talent there, it just has to start hitting the net.

The league is pretty wide open with the current exception of Robert Morris. Also, with games in hand on quite a few teams in the league, any winning streak will move the Tigers up the standings pretty quickly.

Overall, I saw the weekend told me much of what I already know. This team has the potential, if they put it together and do the things that are starting to become echoed on this board, I think they will have a chance come playoff time...

Same old same old. Tigers work and work and work and work and finally get a goal. On the other end, one mistake and boom, it's in the Tigers net.

46 shots proves the effort was there. But too many of those shots are easy saves.

Re: >>>>>RIT TIGERS... The Polisseum, just like the Ritter only more of us!<<<<<

There will be no easy wins for RIT in Atlantic Hockey this year there is too much parity in the league. RIT needs to find a way to close out these games. I watched AIC do the same to Army last week and then win it in overtime. I'm glad that coach mentioned that two points is a must tomorrow. Let's see how the team responds.

Re: >>>>>RIT TIGERS... The Polisseum, just like the Ritter only more of us!<<<<<

Re: >>>>>RIT TIGERS... The Polisseum, just like the Ritter only more of us!<<<<<

Frustrating game. They got a lot of traffic and a lot of pucks towards the net, just no puck luck tonight. The AIC kid leaked rebounds, but he made some really good saves on quality chances as well, and Ruby was badly off of his angle on the last two AIC goals. On the basis of the quality of scoring chances the two teams got you'd think this would have been an easy RIT win, but shaky goaltending and the offense being snake bitten resulted in a tough tie to take. I would assume Rotolo gets the start tomorrow night.

I also thought we got way too passive after AIC pulled their goalie (but before we took our penalty) and it resulted in a couple chances and ultimately a penalty. Not only did we get passive, but we looked absolutely lost in the defensive zone there.
