Re: >>>>>RIT TIGERS... The Polisseum, just like the Ritter only more of us!<<<<<

Only thing I can add is that when they didn't get a goal after all the good work in the first, they got frustrated and Holy Cross adjusted.

Story of the season so far. We've been playing well in the first and not getting results, but what do you change when that happens? You can't point to specific errors or even say "work harder" if they're already working their tails off. You just say "keep doing what you're doing". But then the other team adjusts and you're stuck.

Only thing I can add is that when they didn't get a goal after all the good work in the first, they got frustrated and Holy Cross adjusted. Having to kill off all those penalties in the 3rd where they eventually let one in couldn't help.

I don't want to call next weekend must win games, but they need to start picking up some points quickly.

RIT played well enough to win both games. Holy Cross has an amazing goalie - he is their best player and the team plays a simple hardworking game in front of him. They play the rope-a-dope to perfection - they block shots, get in the way, hammer anyone going to the net (and thanks refs for not calling all the interference, cross checks, hooks and trips on our guys) and wait for a bad bounce or a break to get an odd man rush and a scoring chance.

We played with more grit tonight but yes, we ran out of gas - more so our top line because they played a ton again. They gave it their all but it was obvious the tank was empty in the third. The refs deciding they hadn't called enough lame penalties on us up to that point didn't help either but if we have to give one line 40 minutes a night, plus all the PP and PK time, then we going to see this happening more and more.

In my opinion, we've got enough talent to win more than we lose and enough depth not to have to rely on one line for everything - pick your 6 for the PP and let the other 6 have the PK. Getting Cameron and Shuler back would help too and I'll say it again - we need to get more pucks to the net - especially on the PP and especially against a team like HC.

Period 1 on Saturday we had 15 official shots and countless others blocked. Yet we didn't score. How many more shots can we possibly take?

For sure Saturday was better - they threw more pucks at the net but our 1st PP unit still wants to play tic-tac-toe without putting anyone in front of the net most of the time. Lots of passing happens but not much else.

Normally I would agree, but in the case of Holy Cross, they packed it in in front of the net big time. There was no room to feed pucks through, and even less for a body.

The Tigers pick up another recruit in Jade McMullen from Grand Prairie of the AJHL. This brings to 7 the number of forwards currently on the books for next year. Makes one think that the coaching staff is a little concerned about offense.

7 fowards is a bit surpring. We are graduating 4 (McGowan, Garbowski, Reid, Thompson), which means we should be returning 10. 17 players for 12 slots seems a bit high...Maybe someone (or more) are leaving the team or graduating early?

The only other Senior is Ruby - haven't seen anything about a new goalie yet.

I would hope that that means they are trying their very hardest to find "the one" that everyone wants and that they pretty obviously need.

In reality it may be only 16 forwards if Shuler isn't able to recover. The way this season has been going with injuries, as well as last year, we could use 4 or 5 forwards off the bench. Our Junior class is small enough as it is that I would be very surprised to see any of them go early except maybe Shumway or Amlong if they are upset about not playing.

Hamburg graduating a year (or two?) early opened another spot too. Are we sure all 7 of those guys are for '15-16?

Taken from Heisenberg's list -

Jade McMullen-RW 4/21/95
Gabriel Valenzuela-RC 12/13/94
Mark Logan-LW 4/14/95
Abbott Girduckis-RW 6/28/95
Erik Brown-LW 9/30/95
Liam Kerins-C 11/20/94
Anthony Repaci-LC 9/15/94

Sometimes when a commit is a lot younger than the rest of the group he's for a future year but based on these dates I would guess not.

Repaci is more than a year older than Brown, but not by much.

The word I heard on Repaci is he won't be coming so I'm assuming 6 are coming in. And as was mentioned, Shuler might be done so I don't think it's a lack of faith in the scoring ability of those that will carry on next year so much as a need to build some depth.

We started this year thinner than expected - they moved Golberg up a year just to get to 12 forwards for the start of the year.

So assuming Repaci is not coming and they expect the worst case for Shuler, even with the 6 coming in, we're going into next year with 3 extra forwards - pretty typical.

Re: >>>>>RIT TIGERS... The Polisseum, just like the Ritter only more of us!<<<<<

Just an observation (and I've done nothing to actually confirm) but it seems like I consistently hear more scratches for visiting teams than the Tigers. I've always inferred this meant they simply carried more players than RIT. Given the injury problems the last couple of years I would be very happy to see RIT build more depth.

I think Coach tries to walk a fine line about over-recruiting. You want to use the guys you bring in, and if you have more than 3 extra forwards and 2 extra defensemen, then it's hard to get everyone playing time. If you constantly have 8 or 9 players scratched and more recruits than spots, that could get around and you will be less likely to get the ones you want.

But if players are producing or doing what you need, you need to have replacements.

Re: >>>>>RIT TIGERS... The Polisseum, just like the Ritter only more of us!<<<<<

Yes I think so too. I think playing time is another recruiting tool coaches uses as well. But seems we get any more than 1-2 guys injured at one time and we can into trouble

I believe that Kerins is on campus attending classes. At least that's what I was told over the summer what was going to happen. There were some issues around not having the right number/kind of credits to play right away. Those are being resolved this year. Valenzuela is a former teammate of Kerins for North York. Repaci originally committed for this season but is still with his junior team.

I agree with Komey - having 4-5 extra forwards is IMHO a good balance between over-recruiting and being understaffed. A couple of seasons ago, Niagara was carrying 30 guys and I think that's too many. RIT usually has 25-26.

Have you seen the RIT Women's roster this season? Just 22 players including the three goalies. They have been dressing only three lines and have I think one extra forward and one extra D.

Coach has been very optimistic about Schuler, who's skating and starting to work on his conditioning. I expect the only way he won't be playing by January is if he starts experiencing symptoms again. I have no idea what the odds are on that, of course, but it's certainly not a given.

Every D1 coach in almost every sport lie to get their recruit, sure you will be a top two line player. When at the time they have no idea how it will turn out.

I didn't see the game listed on Time Warner Sports for tonight, but does anyone know if tomorrow's game will be televised? I know they have put the games on at Canisius and at Niagara in the past.
