I may have missed this, but according to the Buffalo News, Madalora is joining the Amerks when they open up camp in Buffalo

Very cool. Got some very stiff competition if he wants to make the roster.

Clearly the coaches around the league expect that the loss of Madolora is going to be a significant one.

Well, we finished third last year, so they've only got us dropping one spot, even though we lost eight players including Burt and Madolora.

Mads yes... Burt.. ehhhh. I think he was far too hit or miss to have a significant impact last season.

Burt has always received a surprising amount of this kind of reaction, despite being the all-time point scorer for us. How soon we forget that he saved our season in 2OT just a few months ago. Behind Shane, he is the biggest loss without a doubt.

He's not making the roster. Those unsigned camp invitees are just trying to show teams, scouts, or whomever what they've got for a chance at moving up the ladder some day. If he shines, he could get some attention to possibly play ECHL for Buffalo. They're pretty well set for goaltenders at the NHL and AHL levels, in theory. I guesss you never know, but I can't imagine Shane getting enough minutes over Leggio, Knapp, or Lieuwen.

Is there any way to watch/listen to the womens game tonight?

3 AHA goalies are in the USCHO top 10 returning goalie list: http://www.uscho.com/2012/10/01/ten-to-watch-picking-college-hockeys-top-goalies-for-2012-13/

gonna be an interesting year in the AHA.

Was never, ever impressed by Bartus. Komm is pretty good but it's been said a thousand times already; Bentley is no longer sneaking up on anyone so we'll see how their season goes.

Torf is, well, a beast in the AHA. Perhaps set to replace Madolora as the uncontested top goalie in the league.

I think yes. Although maybe we'll see a much improved Watson this year.

Does anyone think Ruby splits time with Watson this year?

Absolutely. Just like when DeMike left, there was no assured #1 guy and Madolora had to platoon with Jan until December. I fully expect Watson and Ruby to split starts for at least two months unless one of them is really bad. 3rd guy will probably get an OOC start.

That was almost entirely because Shane entered the season nursing an injury. I never got the impression that Jan was being given a shot at being a full-time # 1. Just by the way Coach Wilson does this, I imagine Jan would have gotten a few starts either way. But it seemed as though Shane was going to be the starter barring some unexpected horrible play by him or tremendous improvement from Jan.

Re: >> RIT Tigers Offseason 2012: Reloading and working on the 'Polisseum' <<

I probably shouldn't say this against my own team, but I think Torf has always been underated, especially when compared to Madolora. Season long stats are great, but Torf brings it to the table post season too. Any goalie that can hold that BC team of last year to two goals is someone to be feared.

Perhaps set to replace Madolora as the uncontested top goalie in the league.

This is all speculation, though. Wilson said on dozens of occasions in every interview he gave that there was no set #1 and that Shane and Jan would be platooning in the early part of the season to decide it. He made it quite clear that following the Christmas break, he would select a top guy and go forward. Right up until then, Mads and Jan still split starts every weekend. It was pretty clear to most of us by Christmas who should be the top guy, but clearly Jan was still getting 50% of the starts to make his case. You might be right, but according to Wilson you are not.

I would agree Torf is a better "big game" goalie. As I've detailed in this very thread, he clearly feeds off the energy and atmosphere. Madolora however is better overall, he is extremely consistent and strong, including the big games. Normally this is good, but when he runs up against a big game guy like Torf he did not always raise his game. Although, his first AHA Finals loss to Air Force was a pretty strong game, with only a single goal against. Can only do so much if you get shut out.

Re: >> RIT Tigers Offseason 2012: Reloading and working on the 'Polisseum' <<

Agreed. I was at BCA for that 1-0 game, and sadly it was a PK defensive breakdown that led to AF practically walking in on Mads. One dumb play separated us from AF that season... this last season however ....

This last year, without Potts or Saracino, Brenner, or Favot..we were not the better team. Air Force has our number often anyway, but last year I don't think we can honestly sit here and make a case for RIT having put a better team on the ice in the finals. The score was more lopsided than it should have been, for sure, but I did not have a lot of confidence going into the game.

Yup. It just wasn't a team that had all the pieces you need to win.
