I believe that if there were a viable DII, quite a few teams in the AHA would be playing there instead of DI.
Actually a "few" would be pretty much accurate. Mercyhurst, AIC, and Bentley are the only D-II programs in AHA.

D-III - RIT
D-I - UConn, AFA, NU, RMU, CC, HC, SHU, Army

When is RIT going D1 across the board??!?!?

Not anytime in the near future. Costs are MUCH higher for DI than DIII.

They wouldn't be for RIT, really. It's not like they would have to add any sports to play D-I (they already meet that threshold), they don't have to give scholarships, and there's a solid (although not as deep as the list available in D-III) grouping of regional partners to play against.

The only real stumbling block would be finding a conference to play in. The Patriot League or America East are both good fits (and the former is fully non-scholarship), but I don't know that either one wants a new team.

From what I know, RIT want's to be aligned with schools that match it academically, in that case none of those leagues really work. That is the reason they made the move to the liberty league.
