Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS - Offseason 2011 - Dreaming About 2011-2012 <<<<<

I'm so glad AHA schools are dedicated to their hockey programs to not supply an on-campus rink. :sarcasm:

It all comes down to economics. When AIC has less than 100 people come to its games, there is not a lot of motivation for them to build a whole new building only to have it be empty as well. Some of the other teams on that list, Canisius and Sacred Heart mostly, might draw better with an on-campus barn, but whose to say? I think they would need to have a good team for several years running before they got enough buzz to be worth it. It's taking RIT quite a while to get the necessary monetary support, and we have the best attendance in the AHA.

Big news! From Twitter..

The b2 stream quality is, well, not always very good from what I've been told - but this is still a big step in the right direction. Hopefully with RIT handing them money, they will be forced to improve.

Not only that, but many of the away rinks don't provide the audio hookup for the RIT broadcasts -- though they are supposed to -- so some games will only have opponents' audio. I really wish Atlantic Hockey would force its member programs to do the little things they are supposed to be doing.

Force how, though? Can AHA really afford to kick a team out? Are there financial sanctions that could be applied?

Maybe you can arrange to have Starfleet launch an attack? ;)

The point is that some members of the league are a bit lax in conforming to standards set in the league office for accommodations or set by the NCAA in game administration. Others go above and beyond the minimum.

Just trolling, er, reading through the thread. A few comments ...
Rochester: In answer to your question - No, not this year. :D
TigerFan86-87: You are correct regarding ECHL players. Just confirming it.
RIT Winters: Sorry, wrong answer. AFA has the best attendance in the AHA for the last two seasons. :p

Over the past 2 years (according to this site) RIT has averaged 109.2% of the capacity of its home arena. Air Force has only averaged 106.1%.

OK, yeah, so those numbers have the BCA games included in them, but I had to account somehow for the way that Air Force's "Sell Out" number is not apparently the true capacity for the arena because they have variable top number, but still claim games as sold out. I also realize that I had to put it this way, because over the past 2 years Air Force has had an average of 327 more people per game than RIT. I just wanted to get a dig in. :P

Yeah, I was looking at it as straightforward #'s, using the default ratings from USCHO stats. And doing the same as you ... getting a dig in. ;)

I believe that if there were a viable DII, quite a few teams in the AHA would be playing there instead of DI.

I suspect it's close at home, but I'd like to see the away numbers. RIT does a good job with alumni events and outnumbering the home fans in places like Milford and Springfield, but Air Force has a built-in fan base just about everywhere they go...

That's likely true. The thing is, none of the things I'm referring to are items that cost very much if anything. And they are things that most of the D-III schools RIT used to play manage to do.

Having a visiting team connection to B2 means providing a long enough cable or even allowing visitors to plug their own cable in. Not dumping the pre-game countdown clock from 3 or 4 minutes to zero (against NCAA protocol) costs nothing. Providing copies of post-game stats -- which have to be signed by the officials anyway -- is not a big deal. Having a working phone line for visiting media -- not a big deal to accomplish. But this sort of thing regularly goes missing and these are just the ones that I'm aware of on the media side of things.

Most of Atlantic Hockey manages to do all this. It's not expensive or hard.

It seems like you ought to be able to encourage these changes. Perhaps writing a letter to whomever is in charge of AHA media stuff would be useful? You could write a memo identifying problems and suggesting straightforward solutions. You could even send out a draft copy to other broadcasters in AHA that probably feel the same way you do (i.e., frustrated) and get their input.

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS - Offseason 2011 - Dreaming About 2011-2012 <<<<<

If I recall, only Air Force consistently has provided a visiting B2 feed (RIT does as well for visiting radio). We've had them some of the time at AIC and I think Sacred Heart. Mercyhurst, and Holy Cross have their B2 hook ups on the opposite side of the rink from visiting radio. The ones at Niagara and Canisius are also too far away from our location. Army usually has it but did not the last time I was there. Ditto UConn. Even getting a phone line at Bentley is tricky. I can't remember if we had one at RMU or not.

Sometime even if we get a B2 feed B2 messes up and does not provide a link, or both links go to home radio.

Most rinks have wireless, which is nice. I think only Bentley does not, but that might have changed. Buff State does not allow Canisius or any visiting teams to use the wireless in the rink.

We have done this and have reported problems to the league office.

Bad news for Pinizzotto with the Canucks- he separated his shoulder in the 1st period of tonight's game.

First preseason game is this weekend! If anyone has an idea for a season thread title, now's your chance. =)

I've been waiting for the season to start all summer and it still creeped up on me. Time goes by way to fast sometimes.

Another week until the exhibition game, and two until the season starts for real. Time for dreaming is over and the time for doing is here. Goodbye offseason, Hello Tigers Hockey.

And yet, there were (are still?) some on here thinking that the goaltender spot is up for grabs this season between the well established Best AHA goaltender (hands down), a sophmore with very little game experience, and a freshman. Now further confirmation that the job should be his to lose.
