Where's that Frozen Four, new arena wave of good recruits we were promised?!

Final list is out for the NHL Central Scouting. No AHA current or committed players made the cut. UCONN has two skaters on the list of 210 North American Skaters. That is more than Union who may win a National Championship this weekend. Talk about what getting out of the AHA can do for you. Do note I did not check the Euro list, but hardly any college guys in there.

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS - Final Game at Ritter/Playoffs <<<<<

FYI ...
The Gwinnett Gladiators, ECHL affiliate of the Phoenix Coyotes, announced on Monday that defensemen Jonathan Narbonne and Daniel Spivak have been loaned out, and Nolan Descoteaux will return to the team.

Spivak, 25, has been one of the defensive leaders on the team, not only playing in all but five of Gwinnett’s games this season, but also leading the team with a +15 rating. The Thornhill, Ontario native has turned that number into a source of pride, registering a negative plus/minus in only 15 of his 65 games this year, and never going below a -1 in any games. This will be the tenth time in ten summers that Spivak will be playing for Team Israel in the IIHF World Championship.

Descoteaux, 24, comes back to Gwinnett after being released on April 4th. The R.I.T. grad played in nine games for the Gladiators, notching an assist in his professional debut on March 14th against the South Carolina Stingrays.

I thought the recruits have been pretty good on the forwards. The defense has been suspect. Ruby was on the list, but we know how that turned out. Hamburg was drafted at one point. Sometimes players don't pan out.

As for new arena wave of good recruits - you do realize we haven't played a game there yet. It will be a better tool once RIT starts playing games there.

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS - Final Game at Ritter/Playoffs <<<<<

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS - Final Game at Ritter/Playoffs <<<<<

I was mostly joking with the post. You do make some good points, Ruby was a bit of a wash and you can't count your chickens before they hatch (read, the rink). That being said, I'm not too surprised about Hamburg being underwhelming. Bouncing between NCAA teams isn't usually a good sign for strong character or game time effectiveness.

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS - Final Game at Ritter/Playoffs <<<<<

Hello RIT fans! I wanted to introduce myself as I sent in my admission deposit to RIT this morning! My name is Ryan and I have been posting on USCHO for a few years now on the RPI threads. I grew up about 20 minutes away from RPI and have grown into a major college hockey fan. As my main focus over the last few years has been on ECAC hockey, it may take some time for me to fully acclimate to Atlantic Hockey, but I look forward to getting to know all of you and becoming a regular contributor over here. Go Tigers!

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS - Final Game at Ritter/Playoffs <<<<<

Not a very good job of recruiting, period. Cant use the scholly excuse either. I know for a fact that there are high end NE prep kids which expressed interest in RIT ( very good academic school for many of these student/athletes) and also 2 on central scouting that expressed interest in RIT with absolutely no response from staff. Sure, just continue to recruit from CJ and you will continue with the same results. You wonder why you can barely compete in AH.

Trolling aside...

I think tonight has proven that the scholarship excuse won't fly anymore. No one can claim we have to move the entire athletic department to D-I to reach the pinnacle of the sport.

Scholarships or stronger league. One or the other. Please.

I agree. One or the other of the must happen for RIT to hope to compete, let alone win, a championship. And Union proves the building doesn't matter that much either. It's all about a well coached team playing as a team and getting good solid recruits. Unfortunately RIT is lacking in these.

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS - Final Game at Ritter/Playoffs <<<<<

We can't just make a new league appear out of thin air. Our current league is getting stronger. The point is, scholarships aren't necessary.

It took years to for Union to get where they are now. Also, note that Union received a high seed. That is due in part to the ECAC conference as a whole doing fairly well OOC. Last year, Atlantic Hockey as a whole had a significant dropoff in OOC results from the previous year. So when they won the league, they got a #1 seed.

RIT certainly needs to get back to getting results like what they had the first few years of Atlantic Hockey. I think we can all agree about that. But for them to have a realistic chance for a National Championship, the whole league will need to post good results so that RIT - or any other Atlantic Hockey team - will be in better position to win.

So a more realistic chance at us getting a National Championship would be to join any other league in existence.

There are 59 schools playing D-1 college hockey. Forty eight of them play in conferences that allow 18 scholarships, play in decent rinks, and hold their coaches responsible for their results. Our conference does not...and to improve we need to beat those other 48 teams on a consistent basis. It is just not going to happen. RIT needs to join the other four WNY/Pa schools and examine all the options.

You don't give any explanation for your assertion that RIT cannot beat the other 48 teams on a consistent basis.

I guess I missed RIT's and other AHA teams consistent appearance in the NCAA's. Anyone who doesn't place value in a ECAC, WCHC, NCHC, etc logo on a jersey is missing the point. RIT and the others will never be able to recruit quality talent to consistently beat those in the 48 without playing by the same rules or conditions. I would love to know what percentage of the Union team had their tuition paid for by mommy and daddy and of those that did, how many chose Union because of their ECAC affiliation. As long as the AHA plays with one hand tied behind it's back, catering to uncommitted members of the conference, none of use will consistently beat the 48. Exactly, what are you afraid of.

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS - Final Game at Ritter/Playoffs <<<<<

Honestly? We don't. We never have. Things aren't exactly changing much for RIT or the AHA, so why expect a change in results?

Yep. RIT has long said that the quality of the education is why athletes would choose to come here over another place, and the great fans. Well, though we may have the best fans in the AHA, they are a fickle bunch (as seen by the recent attendance figures) and still relatively small in number compared to the big schools. As for educational quality...if you're a high caliber recruit who has a legitimate shot of going pro and/or has already been drafted...do you really care? You want to go where you get the most exposure and the best possibility to take your career to the next level.

Heck, look at all the guys who got pro deals on the Frozen Four team. Given his otherwise pedestrian career numbers do you think DeMike ever makes an AHL start if he didn't carry the Tigers to Detroit? No. No one would even know him.

There's going to be pro teams lining up to talk to some of those Union guys that, until they won that Championship, were not necessarily particularly notable. And the end of the day though, RIT can't just pick up and leave...we need somewhere to go, and nobody here has any say in that. I guess it just feels good to complain.

I think all that one needs to do is take a look at the rosters of other colleges that are considered to be academically superior to see that your assertion that players of higher hockey talent will not come to a place like RIT with it's academic requirements is false. Is RIT going to get 1st or 2nd round draft picks? No, but could later round picks be successfully recruited? Yes, I think they could and should be by now and certainly should be in the near future if one is to believe the building argument. One by one the excuses that people here are using for the lack of recruiting are being eliminated with the exception of the quality of the AHA, which is outside of RIT's control.

What does RIT offer to these picks that Canisius, Niagara, or even Mercyhurts doesn't? A few more fans. Okay, but if the team isn't showing up neither are the fans. Clearly they've been capitalizing on RIT's FF run the last few years, more so than RIT itself.

with the exception of the quality of the AHA, which is outside of RIT's control.

This is why some fans believe RIT needs to jump ship from this cost containment league. Even being a bottom barrel ECAC team, or a Western Conference expansion, would put RIT in a better position to grow than staying in the AHA.
