Hm. Barring the extraneous factor of wanting to serve, it seems RIT has been out recruited this year.

Army. Five USHL kids and some other top players. I've been hearing from several sources that they've got the top incoming class in the AHA.

Anybody want to take a wild guess on when the schedule comes out?

Considering how bad Army has been the last few years, they should get a chance to start and play right away.

But now does having a top class mean they will make a big leap in the standings? Maybe in a couple years.

I talked with Lou Spiotti and the athletic department will be voting to approve the final schedules for both teams in May. So probably before the end of that month.

Tough to say how Army will do next year, as you all know the academic and military components of being a cadet at West Point take a toll on these young men regardless of their skills on the ice. With the USHL recruits, whom I hope all make it four years at the Point, I would expect an improvement in the standings for Army next year. I believe the Army brass will expect an improvement as well. Many local fans I've spoken to hope that Army will host a first round playoff series. Like all college hockey fans, whether they be from down here, northwestern New York, New England, or the mid-West, they can't get enough college hockey, even if the local team has struggled of late. In fact I found myself talking this morning over a cup of coffee to a fellow church goer about the Union - Minnesota game. Still a buzz about Union upsetting Minnesota.

Unless Heisenbrg missed one, I only count 4. and some catches there...

Joe Llaurado only played 14 games in the USHL for Dubuque. Outside of his high school numbers nothing jumps out at you.

Mike Preston & Tyler Pham are in category of need to see play. There numbers don't jump out at all.

Cole Burns (Goaltender) could be their best recruit from the USHL, some solid numbers and saved his best for this past season. Would say after the goal-tending RIT has had for the last two season he would be nice to have.

When you look at their other recruits and their returning team you really wonder why is going put the puck in the net.

Bendan McGuire scored 33 goals in two years of the CCHL but last year in the NAHL he only manged 4 goals.

I know past numbers are no guarantee of future return but the two OJHL guys RIT have more impressive resume than that. I think that is debatable, we will have to see how things go on the ice and that was my original point.

I think the USHL is getting a little over rated at least when it comes to the impact on the AHA. No doubt there been top talent in that league and many of the top Programs pull future NHL players from that league. But Air Force won many of it's AHA title pulling most of it guys from other leagues.

I think the best way to compare the leagues (for people here) in which RIT players have come from, here are some notable players below. No doubt the USHL has been good to RIT, but the OJHL has been just as good. A few other notable sprinklings too...

USHL

Jared DeMichuel
Sean Murphy
Mike Janda
Shane Madolora
Tyler McReynolds
Cameron Burt
Jeff Smith
Chris Saracino

OJHL

Matt Smith
Dan Ringwald
Chris Tanev
Andrew Favot
Chris Haltigin
Mark Cornacchia
Steve Pinizzotto

BCHL

Matt Crowell
Scott Knowles
Adam Hartley
Bryan Potts

MWJHL

Tyler Brenner

CJHL

I can't speak for the recruiting that Coach Wilson& co. have done nor how it has compared to other AHA competition, having followed predominately ECAC hockey over the last few years. However, from my observations, having a top notch recruiting class does not necessarily correlate with on ice success. All too often, the flashy junior numbers and big hype surrounding these players leaves fans scratching their heads as their debut season and careers carry on. A few examples: Jacob Laliberte of RPI came in after years of anticipation (hes 23 years old and still has a year to play). The numbers he put up before RPI were absolutely mind boggling. Since he's been at RPI, hes been ok tallying 23 or 24 goals over 3 years thus far, a number far lower than this anticipated contribution. On the other hand, there are players that fly under the radar that do exceptional things. A few years back Union graduated a player named Mario Valery Trabucco. This kid was not highly touted and according to his father, no other school at any level gave him a look. Once at Union, he turned out to be one of the most well rounded under under the radar players (and an RPI killer) i've seen. Union won the NCAA championship title this year with 1 NHL draft pick on their team. Success in recruiting can not be determined,in my opinion, until the recruiting class has played atleast 2 seasons on the ice in their coaches system. I understand last season was a disappointment at RIT and that shouldnt be tolerated for long stretches, however i believe with the amount of success Coach Wilson has had with the tigers over the years, he should be given the benefit of the doubt until he truly shows that he doesnt deserve it. Just my 2 cents on the recent discussion as a whole from a rookie fan

Who (of the more seasoned folks) can tell me about this jersey? http://www.ebay.com/itm/191152489828

What years was it worn? Any idea what player this is?

Edit: Looking at a past media guide, under 'Tigers by Number' section, it looks like the only Tiger to ever wear #44 was Peter Constantine in 1997-1999...does this sound right?

Sounds about right.........Peter Constantine....97-99.....sublimated jerseys with the green eyes....I have a game worn, #42 brown one from that era. Was worn by Pete Bournazakis (how did he fit in that jersey...no idea) and an orange one without numbers from that same time period.

The "RIT Arenas" Facebook page has been asking the community for questions regarding the new arena. They answered those questions here:

https://www.facebook.com/RITArenas

(Please note that there are two pages of Q&A.)

The lack of a center-hung scoreboard still seems odd to me. I hope the video boards are sufficient!

I know he was good, but being able to be recruited from both the BCHL and OJHL at the same time... Wow :p

Always is breaking news when I make a mistake. For the Record Tanev played for Markham of the OJHL...

The CJHL announced the 5 finalists for defenceman of the year, and Tiger recruit Chase Norrish is one of them. He was earlier named SJHL defenceman of the year and now is up for national recognition. Here's the link to the press release - http://www.sjhl.ca/news_article/show/381602?referrer_id=618093.

Chase and twin brother Brady are committed to the Tigers for next year. Both are D-men.

Chase had a season line of: 56games - 9g - 36a - 45pts --> #1 in scoring among D, and #11 overall scoring, named SJHL playoff MVP.
Brady Line: 54games - 9g - 21a - 30pts --> #6 in scoring among D, and #53 overall.

Twins, they're 5'10" and 175lbs.

A nice mention of Tanev in the Yahoo sports article about the Torts firing. In speaking of how injuries played a role in the poor performance of the Canucks:

Injuries played a factor. Both Sedins, Alex Burrows and defenseman Chris Tanev all missed a significant number of games, and the Canucks netted only 196 goals - tied for second fewest in the NHL.

I'm sure not the way Chris would like to be mentioned but obviously his absence had a negative impact on the team which is a positive for him.
