>>>RIT Tigers 2022-2023 Season<<<

Anyone else confused how slamming someone's head into the ice repeatedly is a 2 minute minor penalty? Reminded me of the 2008 Canisius-RIT brawl where one of the Canisius players was slamming Andrew Favot's head into the ice over and over.

Nice weekend, though it would be nice for the officials to not be the story for a weekend for once...

Tough weekend for the conference OOC too. Niagara the only wins, sitting at 2-13-4. Nice tie for Air Force, except they got stomped by Maine the night before. AIC's losing weekend in Alaska was very disappointing, as was Mercyhurst getting swept by RPI. Union finishing the sweep at Brick City would be equally disappointing.

What's with these exhibition games against other D-1 teams instead of Canadian teams? Seems kind of shitty HC and SH both got wins over Hockey East schools....but they don't count because they're "exhibitions"....

That's a new rule this season. I think it was in part because Canadian teams couldn't come across the border for a couple of years. And grizzled RIT fans might remember a game in 1994 vs. Ryerson back in the D-III days at Ritter which got so out of hand – including with a Ryerson assistant coach going after spectators – that former AD Lou Spiotti stopped the game early in the third period.

Interesting. Kind of ironic its taking effect this season considering Canada just relaxed their rules for crossing the border.

At the time this rule modification was put in place and these games were scheduled, it wasn't known when Canada would relaxt the rules for crossing the border. So it is pretty understandable why this was done. However, I am with you in not really liking it very much.

Speaking of rule changes... I missed most of last season, so maybe this isn't new to everyone, but...
When did faceoff violations become 2:00 penalties, and whose idiotic idea was that? On Friday I noticed that the linesmen weren't kicking anyone out of the faceoff circles and just raising their arm and getting re-set. Then Saturday I realized why. What is so wrong with just kicking the offending player out of the faceoff? It seems like quite the over-reaction to such a minor infraction in the grand scheme of things. Is that an NCAA thing, or just AHC? I sure hope that becomes a one-and-done.

Actually, the only difference between the NCAA rule and the NHL rule is that the NCAA doesn't kick the center out of the circle for the first offense anymore. If a 2nd player on the same team gets kicked out of the circle in the NHL it's also a two minute penalty (they may call it "delay of game" instead of a "faceoff violation" in the NHL, I'm not sure). It actually streamlines things with how many faceoff violations NCAA linesmen call - in the NHL every single one would result in having to bring in a new guy to take the faceoff.

Also, this rule (the not kicking out the centerman for a first offense part) has been around for at least last season, and I think maybe the season before that as well in the NCAA.

NCAA ice hockey rules only change every two years. The rule was changed for the 2020-21 season, both not kicking out the center and the 2 minute penalty for a second violation.

Twenty years ago it wasn't even a 2 minute penalty. At least not when a UNH goon was slamming Freddy Meyers' head into the ice repeatedly.

I didn't realize that about the NHL, specifically, but now that I think about it I may have noticed it once or twice in the AHL. That's because it so rarely gets called. And why?... Because the linesmen up there are much better at their jobs and rarely get yelled at to "...just drop the **** puck already!". They know that none of us paid to watch them hold the puck forever and yell at players for stupid things.

Really surprised there wasn't any reaction from the league on this one. Really expected the Army player to get at least a game off for it.

The league looks at all major penalties, but doesn't automatically look at minors. Individual schools can submit video for review, though.

Big rematch series tonight and tomorrow. Air Force hasn't quite found their footing yet defensively (or at least in net), let's see if the Tigers can take advantage and really get off to a great start in conference.

Looking forward to this weekends match-up with AIC. This weekend and next will be a good barometer for how the boys match up with two of the predicted top teams in the league. I watched AIC destroy Army last week and SHU doesn't look like they are slowing down either. Will be listening to our radio guys before heading back to Tate Rink later this afternoon for the second match-up between Army and Lindenwood. Speaking of Lindenwood, they seem like a pretty stout team looking at their line-up from top to bottom, with a top notch coaching staff too. Interested to see which conference they eventually join. Goalie stood on his head to preserve their 2-1 win last night against Army.

Very nice surprise this weekend with 2 good wins over a sold AIC. I was only able to see limited amounts of both games as my 3yr old granddaughter had other plans for me. From what I saw it appeared this the Tigers did an overall great job, with some strong effort in net from Scarfone.

Last week I would have been happy with splits against AIC and SHU, but now I'm rooting for a 12 pt sweep.

Great weekend. Saturday's game felt like the flip side of the season opener, where they lost their #1 defenseman to a game misconduct in the 2nd period and then continued to take a ton of penalties, but I'll take it. Then being able to complete the sweep on Saturday is a great win. On to Sacred Heart! A real chance to take a solid lead in the conference in points % with a lot of those points already in the bank.

Wasn't so thrilled to see Army get swept by Lindenwood over the weekend. Seems like there's a lot more stratification in the league this year compared to past years, with RIT, Sacred Heart, and (probably) AIC in the top tier, then Niagara, Air Force, Holy Cross, but then there might be anywhere from 2-4 truly awful teams this year at the bottom of the league. Not old AIC bad or anything, but teams that aren't quite as up to par as teams at the bottom of the league in recent years.

Nice win over a tough SHU squad last night. Expect tonight to be a real barn burner because SHU will be coming out as hard as they did in the 3rd period last night. Before the AIC weekend I would have been happy with splits against both AIC and SHU. Let's hope the Tigers are as greedy as I am and get all 12 points.

Another great weekend. Easily the best start of the D-1 era unless I'm forgetting something prior to the Frozen Four run. Love that a below .500 team is ranked instead of us and a team that lost to Sacred Heart and tied AIC and is only .500 is ranked instead of us

If my memory serves me right, we have never been ranked, ever during the regular season. I remember scratching my head 10-12 years ago thinking, how are we not ranked.

Also 10-12 years ago these boards were flooded with Tiger fans. Sad to see everyone has dispersed.
