RIT Tigers 2014-2015

Re: RIT Tigers 2014-2015

We saw a MUCH better performance today. Congrats to the team on the GPC's first win.

Agree. It was like I was watching a different team when compared to their exhibition game. RIT dominated the first period Friday night. Great to see such intensity. Not the same performance Saturday but still able to pull out win. I was impressed by the hustle from the freshmen and looks like we got a solid addition to our D from transfer Northcote. Looking forward to this weekend's games especially Saturday against Northeastern.

Re: RIT Tigers 2014-2015

Back to back games is a good chance for the second goalie to play. Good coaches can manage goalie ice time well

Fair enough. Was hoping to see her in net. Was a fan of her brother's when he was at NU.

And sounds like you guys had a great comeback at the end. Best of luck the rest of your season.

Re: RIT Tigers 2014-2015

Tough weekend for RIT. That Lindenwood team is much improved from their last visit to Rochester.

Re: RIT Tigers 2014-2015

Unfortunately, Binnington can't pitch a shutout every game. We've got to find a way to solve some of these goalies that are making 30, 40+ saves each night.

There are only three lines of forwards dressed each game and some of those forwards are playing injured. I think they're just getting too gassed to put home the rebounds and loose pucks in front of the net.

Wait, really? Why?

Three forwards scratched each game, none being healthy scratches.

EDIT: Wait, I'm dumb. Two forwards and a defenseman. Stenason got shifted back to D again to fill that sixth slot.

Short bench this year, especially up front...
Last year, 3 seniors graduated - 2 forwards (Zach and Kunichika), 1 D (Bromley)
5 players left the team, or are otherwise not on the roster this year. 4 Forwards (Waites, Hall, St. James, Hubert), 1 D (Klein)
So we lost 6 forwards, 2 defense.

This years newcomers (I'd say Freshmen, except Haley Northcote is a transfer Junior)
2 Forwards (Henderson, Pitawanakwat). 4 D (Northcore, Vuglar, Grisko, Carrol).

3 players are out with injuries - Forwards Clayton and Maugeri, and Defense Scoyne.

So, overall compared to last year (and ignoring injuries), we are -4 forwards, +2 defense. I'm not sure when the 5 players leaving knew they were leaving and/or told Coach, but it was likely too late to get good recruits.

To combat this a bit, Lindsay Grigg and Lindsay Stenason, moved to Forward (listed F/D on the roster). But As EvilTaxi pointed out, Stenason has been moved back to D, likely to fill the hole left by Scoyne.

Here is last Saturday's line chart: http://ritathletics.com/custompages/whock/2014-15/RIT_WHK_Lines_Lindenwood_110114.pdf

Looking at the roster, if everyone is healthy and both Lindsays are playing forward, we have exactly 12 forwards, 7 D. Not much room for injuries...

A 19-skater roster is completely unacceptable. How does McDonald expect to compete in that kind of situation? And when is his butt getting called on the carpet for it?

That's one more than Minnesota has on its roster.

Get a grip. RIT has an official roster of 22.....similar to the rosters of a significant number of other teams. This year quite a few teams including Minnesota (21), Clarkson (20), Dartmouth (21), Cornell (20) have even smaller rosters.

Last year, over half of the Top 10 ranked teams had rosters of 22 or less....including the champion Clarkson (21) and runner-up Minnesota (21). Harvard had 19. Astonishingly they all seemed to find a way to compete quite nicely.

Are you suggesting their coaches need to be called on the carpet too?
Ask any player if they'd prefer to go to a competitive team where they will be one of 19 skaters or 23 skaters. You should not be surprised by the answer.

I agree. I have heard a reason that at least one of the non-seniors left the team was due to lack of ice time.

I'm not sure how all those other teams manage injuries, then. Harvard had 19 players total? That's not even enough to fill a gameday roster if everyone's healthy. How is that possible?

They lost two players to Team USA IIRC.
