>>> RIT Tigers - 2013 Offseason: The Future Looks Bright <<<

Re: >>> RIT Tigers - 2013 Offseason: The Future Looks Bright <<<

Q: What is the capacity of the new arena?

A: The new arena will have seating for approximately 4,000 including suites and club seats.

4,000 individual seats, plus standing room?

yes, that is what i have heard.

Re: >>> RIT Tigers - 2013 Offseason: The Future Looks Bright <<<

So the America One pass went on sale today. $125 is still pretty steep for the awful service they offer. I think I will be forgoing subscription this time around... I just wish I could watch RIT play.

Re: >>> RIT Tigers - 2013 Offseason: The Future Looks Bright <<<

I wonder what the likelihood is that RIT fills that stadium. Given last years performance, I'm willing to be that it's not an easy answer.

We don't even get consistent sellouts at Ritter yet. (Frequent, but not consistent.) This is a move for the future. Someday we'll fill the arena week-in and week-out, but not in its first year.

P.S. We led Division I in attendance as a percentage of capacity last season, at 109.9%! http://www.uscho.com/stats/attendance/division-i-men/2012-2013/ But if you take out the BCA game, our average attendance was 1792, 300 below capacity.

To follow up some more, the full set of data for last year in the link that LtPowers provided (http://www.uscho.com/stats/attendance/division-i-men/2012-2013/) shows that pretty much no team sold out all the time. North Dakota, Minnesota, Notre Dame, Cornell, Quinnipiac, and Princeton are the only ones within a percent or two of doing so. Our arena is supposed to be 4600 (I assume with standing room) and looking at others roughly that size you get Dartmouth at 75%, Bemidji at 74%, Mich. Tech. at 73%, and some others with similar numbers. We'll be at essentially the same capacity as Cornell, but I suspect it will be a long time before we have their number of season tickets, etc. I think it is very reasonable to expect the RIT average attendance to be about 75%, or around 3500, and that would be quite a success (and make the arena look much more full than empty). Such a number would also put RIT in the top 25 of attendance for DI.

It will probably be a rare game for which someone can't walk up, buy a ticket, and have a seat ... but they will happen (just like most of the last 30 years actually!).

I honestly hope more AHA fans start traveling. We'll have the capacity for it. Despite hating Niagara with all my cuts, having them, their band, and their fans would make for a fun college atmosphere.

Just as an FYI, all of Cornell except for the visitor section is season tickets. The only way to purchase a single game ticket is if a season ticket holder gives their ticket back for resale.

I think this would be an excellent goal once the newness has worn off which will make the first several games sellouts or close to it. And a lot depend upon how good the team is.

First roof truss going up. It's starting to look like and arena.

Hmmm... I knew it was difficult, but not that bad. I've had many opportunities to buy single-game tickets there over the years (going back 15 or so years), but usually couldn't be there. The few times I did go, I bought tickets outside the visitor section with no problem. Those must have been turn-backs from season ticket holders and I think one of the RIT games there (could have been someone else), the arena wasn't even full due to break or something. I've never sat in the visitor section. I'm pretty sure there attendance has been meaningfully below sellout quite often since the most recent renovation/expansion. (Maybe they count attendance as actual people in the arena instead of ticket sales?)

Anyway, it just makes my point that it will be a long time before that happens at RIT (unless the students start to get crazy with season tickets like Cornell does ... we do have plenty of students to do that)

I think they count tickets sold for the attendance figures. I know some the season ticket holders are out of town people (read: rich/fanatical alumni) who are unable to make games on a regular basis, so those tickets turned back in and are re-sold if able. If they are not, which happens mostly for the non-conference games or when students are not in session, then the game is not a sellout. As you mentioned tickets are hard, but not impossible (except for the Harvard game) to come by due to factors I just mentioned.

At any rate I agree RIT has a ways to go to get there, but I do hope that someday they will at least to a certain degree. (All tickets being season isn't an ideal way to develop new fans and being on a wait list for years kind of sucks).

I think you will see a good jump in ticket sales for RIT either way. I can't imagine how many people don't bother coming unless you get to the game relatively early, you won't be able to actually sit down.

Echoing this a whole lot. I've never found much utility to America One at the price they charge. Sad because it could be a decent service if the league enforced it's own rules on video, audio, and internet bandwidth.

Re: >>> RIT Tigers - 2013 Offseason: The Future Looks Bright <<<

For what America One offers... I would pay around $50, not $120. I wish RIT would just put up a home game stream at least. I know one of the awesome dudes over on reddit occasionally puts up a tv feed-stream, but that's not completely consistent.

Considering NHL gamecenter is 149, and that's streaming virtually all NHL games in HD, 120 is ridiculous

Hopefully the kind gentleman who streamed all of the RIT home games on justin.tv last year will continue to do so this year, so that people like you away from campus can watch. I believe I put his stream on this forum last year but I will do so again this year if I see it.

I'll look for that, thank you very much!

Re: >>> RIT Tigers - 2013 Offseason: The Future Looks Bright <<<

Any of you smart RIT Hockey historians interested in doing a comprehensive writeup? Reddit is having a 59 teams in 59 days thing going on for College Hockey. I volunteered for RIT but have come to realize a) It's more work than I can afford and b)I don't know much about this team prior to 2007.

Here's an example of the look and feel of the data from a different school:
http://www.reddit.com/r/hockey/comments/1mmzh9/59_teams59_days_michigan_state_university_spartans/

RIT is technically scheduled to go up tomorrow, but, well, that ain't going to happen. I figured I would come here in hopes of finding someone more motivated than I am. If you don't have a reddit account, I can take care of posting/formatting it there and will credit you. If you do have a reddit account, I can give you the info of the guy to contact when you're ready to go.

If I had more time today, I'd help you out; that format doesn't look like it would take too long to adapt to RIT.
