>>> RIT Tigers - 2013 Offseason: The Future Looks Bright <<<

Re: >>> RIT Tigers - 2013 Offseason: The Future Looks Bright <<<

It should help some to get larger schools to travel but I don't think it will be as great a factor as others think. And it could actually hurt lower teams if they lose at home to higher teams. If I understand it correctly (& I might not), say for this season, if RIT loses to Michigan it will be a 1.2 loss, but if they went to Ann Arbor and lost it would be a 0.8 loss. So, while it could encourage "better" teams to travel it could end up hurting "lesser" teams in terms of at-large bids.

Actually, the game against Michigan this year is considered a neutral site game because BCA is not RIT's regular home rink. So it would carry a weight of 1.0 for both teams under the new criteria.

Hooray for loopholes!

It always does feel a bit weird having what is essentially home ice be considered neutral.

Ok, so that particular game is a neutral site game. However, I believe that the point I was trying to make is still is valid.

Re: >>> RIT Tigers - 2013 Offseason: The Future Looks Bright <<<

I meant brutal for me to read. As I said, probably fair. I'm hoping/believing that last year was the anomaly. I'll boldly predict a top 4 finish. Anyone else care to make a pre-season prediction? No need to justify them ... I sure can't.

Overall I think the coaches got all the starting points right, but I think they even they know some teams will move up and some will move down. Translation, I think this is more of a poll than what the standings will look like at the end of the season.

RIT should be much improved in the standings this year, they could move up the most from last year. The main cause of last years slow start was a young defensive core and goaltending trying to find itself while being shelled. Defense came a long way last year and a number one goaltender will make it much harder to find the back of the Tiger's net. Scoring goals was never really an issue last year and I think the offense may be more potent depending on some freshmen.

I see them having the same chance of winning a regular season title of any team in the Western Pod. I really do not think Niagara is going to be the same run away juggernaut they were last year (They will be tough and in the top 4). To me it's a dog fight and who ever find the diamond in the rough from their freshmen or unexpected contribution from a returning player will be the team at the top of the AHA standings this year.

It is a valid point. Another potential problem is that teams will be less inclined to take a lower tier team on even at home for the fact that it will count less.

I didn't think of that. Interesting.

I do think that it is an overall improvement though.

Unless... and I may be completely interpreting this wrong... that a 4-0 win against the likes of AIC counts as a "quality win".

The day AIC enters the Top 20 in the RPI will be the day a win over AIC deserves a quality win bonus.
As recently as a couple years ago, I would have said the day AIC enters the top 20 in anything would be the day h*** freezes over. But they're actually improving little by little. You just never know.

You did click the link, didn't you?

Yes. There's no explanation there of what's being presented. Is it a prediction of how the final postseason awards will shake out? Is it an "expectations" list? Is it based on last year's performance? What does it mean to give out awards before anything award-worthy has occurred? None of these questions are answered at the link.

In double actuality :) The NCAA has clarified how a game is determined to be a neutral site, so the BCA game against Michigan is now indeed a home game for RIT. MattS's initial inclination was correct.

"is in the same city or a reasonable distance within the metropolitan area of Team A, and its opponent, Team B, is from outside the metro area"

And the same goes for Frozen Frontier, as Niagara is in the Buffalo-Niagara metropolitan area.

I have to be honest here. I was just using that game as an example and I did not give any consideration about how that game would be considered (home or neutral game for RIT). So it was just by dumb luck that I was correct. :)

Q: What is the capacity of the new arena?

A: The new arena will have seating for approximately 4,000 including suites and club seats.

4,000 individual seats, plus standing room?
