The other thing to keep in mind with attendance is there are over 30 luxury boxes, and every one I could see was full. Of course, most of them had the inside area occupied with people occasionally emerging to enjoy the weather. Additionally, the tent had an event in it and looked reasonably full, and the listed capacity was over 800 for that tent. So, it's likely that over 1,000 people were inside the tent and luxury boxes. With that said, I agree there were definitely no shows, which isn't surprising when it's 16 degrees at faceoff (18 by game's end!) during a winter storm warning. It is a bit hard to make noise unless you yell with layers and layers of clothes on. (If it wasn't for the heated team store, I'm not sure my wife and I would have made it through the whole game.) I did listen to the end of the Friday Amerks game on the radio, and it was LOUD, although it was a sell out with a shootout going on.
With quirks, it still felt like an RIT v. Niagara game with a pretty typical result. For whatever reason, RIT-alum Burkholder always seems to have RIT's number, with that one glorious exception during the AHA semifinals. RIT definitely hung on for dear life after Niagara tied it. The good news is I think RIT may have found a starting goalie for the foreseeable future. He's not quite perfect yet, but his stats don't lie, he's confident, and he plays well when the game is on the line. All great traits for a goalie.
I had fun. It was a bit of bad luck with the extreme conditions, but certainly a unique experience. And the players sounded like they had a lot of fun.
