And half price for students is $10!!??. This game should be free for students ... up to some number, like 2000-3000 (with busses).

Beyond that, I have not heard one person outside RIT even mention this game to me (and very few within RIT).

I know it's way early, but the long-term forecast this AM is calling for ice and rain ... I hope this doesn't turn into a sad event for RIT.

Don't forget the Amerks, high schools, youth orgs, are all playing are frontier too. Its not like RIT is the only team, there is lots of competition for the novelty of seeing a hockey game outside with bad site lines and questionable weather. Hell even one my adult teams bought ice and are playing at frontier and it wasn't cheap

That's decent, although only 20% of what Frontier can hold, which would make it quite a small feeling crowd. Hopefully sales ramp up faster now that there are some student deals and greater advertising push.

Wow. I'm impressed ... shocked actually ... that it's that high. I know some were predicting 10,000, or an easy sellout, but I'll be pleasantly surprised if the actual crowd there exceeds 2000. It's always possible there will be a lot of "day of" ticket sales if the weather looks good.

This is a pretty expensive project, at least $500,000 to build based on costs I've seen for other outdoor rinks. Frozen Fenway as over $1,000,000 to set up and they were leasing ice for $10,000 an hour. I'm sure RIT made a certain commitment to ticket sales but can only come up with so much money on its own.

It would be worse, if this was going on, and RIT was not involved. Between other area college, junior, and high school teams, it looks like the majority are participating. Plus RIT has one of the prime slots for their game (mens), and I would argue that time slot might even be better than the Amerks given its on a Saturday. No need to rush after work, plus a Saturday game allows for tailgating.

I would be happy with a crowd of 3k since it will probably be the largest crowd besides the Amerks game

I wouldn't worry too much. Probably not an easy sell out, but it'll likely be a nice bump to average attendance. (Which is obviously constrained by a small arena). I believe the Amerks event is close to a sell out, so many people just curious about the outdoor events will go to this one by default -- it'll basically get the overflow. (Granted, there are other ways to see games there given the Naz game along with the HS games.) I'm sure there will be loads of free publicity the week of the game, which should help ticket sales. The alumni association is also pushing it too.

It's my understanding that with the new arena selling beer at games we will likely see a larger student attendance, as sad as that is.

The real way to improve student attendance is to have an easier beginning of the schedule. We lost last years freshmen and likely this years because we look awful early. That's why I hate our homecoming choices for the next few years, they should be easy wins to keep the thousands of fans wanting to come back.

Despite the results, that Michigan game was **** exciting.

While I agree with your point about easier beginning of the schedule, I don't think Brick City is a factor. They sell out that place earlier and earlier each year, so clearly people want to keep coming.

We will have the opportunity for more "name" opponents coming to RIT with the new arena. That will help some. The Tigers have only had 4 true home games (one of which was a weekday game) this year so it's too early to say what the student population's attendance will be like.

Maybe it's just me but I don't see beer being available as an incentive to come to games.

I don't hope it fails but I agree that RIT should focus on building up the fanbase for actual home games at RIT. If the fortunes of the team continue to go the way they are then selling out will be tough once the newness of the new arena wears off.

Maybe it's just me but I don't see beer being available as an incentive to come to games.

I don't think it will hurt attendance with regards to the students.

I agree. This is a great event for the Rochester community and for RIT to have not been involved would have be a huge mistake. I feel like people are forgetting that RIT was invited to participate in this community event; It's not an RIT run event. It's a two week event that includes way more teams than just RIT. Just being part of the community event is great exposure for RIT and for the hockey teams. I don't know why anyone would want this to fail. Rochester needs more of these types of events. It's great for the community as a whole. Not to mention it will probably be a once in a lifetime opportunity for a lot of hockey players to play on an outdoor rink.

Yep. I don't want any more of these on our schedule. The atmosphere isn't going to be as good as the Ritter, nor will the ice conditions.

If RIT wants to start doing double headers with the Amerks, or something similar, at BCA... then awesome. I just feel like the experience you're going to get at the outdoor game won't compare to a good game at Ritter.

edit: To elaborate on my point on atmosphere... anyone at the Frozen Four game can tell you that that place seemed dead despite the much larger crowd than you're going to get at Frozen Frontier.
