Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2013-2014 - Rocking The Ritter One Last Time <<<<<

Yep. I don't want any more of these on our schedule. The atmosphere isn't going to be as good as the Ritter, nor will the ice conditions.

If RIT wants to start doing double headers with the Amerks, or something similar, at BCA... then awesome. I just feel like the experience you're going to get at the outdoor game won't compare to a good game at Ritter.

I think you're really missing the point. RIT does not live on an island, community involvement is important to the University and its sports teams. Frozen Frontier is the most significant hockey event Rochester has seen, well, certainly since I've lived here (7 years now). RIT would be conspicuous in it's absence and it would look bad. Less than ideal ice conditions is a small price to pay for selling our brand externally and getting more community involvement.

A double header at BCA is plain and boring. Amerks attendance is not very good anyway with them being so bad, throwing in a college game is not going to make waves in the community. Frozen Frontier does.

Ritter is great, but it's not the end all be all of RIT hockey.

edit: To elaborate on my point on atmosphere... anyone at the Frozen Four game can tell you that that place seemed dead despite the much larger crowd than you're going to get at Frozen Frontier.

This is because it was a fragmented crowd, though. It's not like there was thousands of fans for every team, it was smaller groups of fans for each school and then local people who don't really have a dog in the fight, they just want to see hockey. Frozen Frontier will be pretty much entirely RIT fans and probably a decent number of Niagara fans.

Maybe we should talk about if Wilson should be fired if we don't sell out frontier field ;)

I agree that RIT needs to be there. I just hope there isn't another event like it.

Amerks attendance is probably poor, for sure, but you could get RIT in front of a crowd of people not usually going to RIT games this way more so than with Frozen Frontier. How about we put Canisius and RIT against each other before a Sabres game? Same concept, much larger exposure than the outdoor game.

It's my understanding that with the new arena selling beer at games we will likely see a larger student attendance, as sad as that is.

Doubt it...found this article posted today - 12 Things to get excited about in the new Gene Polisseni Center:

7. Club lounge:
There will be a club lounge located on the second level for people who purchase Club Seats or one of the Club Suites, where they can enjoy a free dinner buffet and the opportunity to mingle with others at the Club Bar. This will be the only area of the arena that will serve beer and wine.

I don't really see students (especially those in the corner crew) buying club seats...

I do like the expanded food options though, and the say there will be a video board at each end of the ice.

Don't be too excited about this. Last I heard, they weren't going to get a center hung scoreboard, using these video boards instead.

Video boards are awesome...no center hung scoreboard is amateur hour.

I was holding out on getting excited on Rotolo... but now I'm excited.

First goal was soft but he was pretty solid the rest of the way. I'm concerned about our passing today; in the first they came out with lots of energy but seemed to have no idea where their teammates would be. They were overshooting and overskating the puck an awful lot.

That said, Schuler was absolutely sick on the GWG. Freeze the goalie by faking the wraparound, then pass it behind the net to Skirving on the back door. Brilliant stuff.

Yeah...he seems like the real deal. Fantastic positioning, great reaction time, love the on-ice communication.

I thought the first goal could have been deflected of of Kuquali, so I can't say that would be a bad goal.

RIT was lucky to be playing AIC. Against almost any other team, they would have lost with a performance like this.

That would be a grave disappointment. The students would be able to drink and have a fun time without having to drive home! It's a no brainer. I don't really drink, but I know a lot of people enjoy a good beer while watching hockey!

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2013-2014 - Rocking The Ritter One Last Time <<<<<

This is a pretty expensive project, at least $500,000 to build based on costs I've seen for other outdoor rinks. Frozen Fenway as over $1,000,000 to set up and they were leasing ice for $10,000 an hour. I'm sure RIT made a certain commitment to ticket sales but can only come up with so much money on its own.

Hmmm... this was advertised as a gift of the Sabres organization to the Rochester community. Is RIT really paying for this "privilege"? Are the high schools footing the bill too? That's crazy and I hope a risk that RIT is not dumb enough to take. I had actually assumed it was nothing but good will on RIT's part to play along (along with the potential exposure benefit) and that maybe RIT got some small cut in ticket sales. If RIT is paying (assuming risk) to put this on, it seems like a mistake...

Frank Ritter Memorial Arena (Attendance: 1,391)

Class in session, good weather, conference game ... that's something to really be concerned about.

That's also in the article linked by mar7697. I was wondering if those ceiling beams were too low for a center scoreboard and apparently they are. It will be strange without one, but MSU seems to get by without one (and I would imagine there are others).

The article also makes it sound like bleachers on the whole south end, not just the corner. That makes some sense.

I wonder if the club seats will be available for season tickets ... the beer might be worth it! :)

It's coming folks! 1.25 seasons of mediocre hockey is going to affect attendance.

Agreed. I was NOT happy about that win last night. AIC was too close to winning in either the 2nd or 3rd period. If we're going to keep considering ourselves a serious hockey program we can't let games like last night be the norm nor something we're happy about.

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2013-2014 - Rocking The Ritter One Last Time <<<<<

The honeymoon seems to be over for RIT in terms of DI for attendance. Results and/or good opponents are needed to get the numbers back to what they used to be. The new arena will stem some of that tide with a new toy, but without wins, it will only be a band aid for that.

Holy overreaction! Sometimes teams just aren't going to have their "A" game. A large part of what separates great teams from good ones (and good ones from average ones) are that the better teams find ways to win when they don't particularly play well. In the long run, holding on to a tight lead late might be better for this team's psyche than if they just rolled them over like they did Sacred Heart last weekend.

As far as games like this somehow making us not a serious hockey program (LOL)...in 06-07 RIT lost to AIC at the Ritter on route to finishing 2nd in Atlantic hockey. In 08-09, they needed TWO late PP goals to turn a 3-2 deficit to a win (that team won Atlantic Hockey). In 10-11 RIT lost by FOUR goals to AIC en route to winning Atlantic Hockey. At this level, anyone can beat anyone. Look no further than Sacred Heart beating UMass Lowell this year.

I think the new arena will help with this, especially for the student population, soley based on the seating. It was always hard to find other students who wanted to go to the games with me because no one wants to get to a game an hour early just to sit there so you don't have to stand. Everyone wanted to go to TC's, McGreggors or Beers of the World before the game. It's the culture of college students now, drink before everything. I think if people are guaranteed a spot to sit at the game, they're more apt to buy tickets.

Also - anyone else notice that Rotolo is a solid 55 lbs. heavier than Ruby, yet the same height? I think that has a lot to do with his in-net "presence" everyones talking about - he's strong.

Anyone use the Justin.tv stream tonight? Could not get it to work. Is it my bad internet or was he not streaming tonight?

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2013-2014 - Rocking The Ritter One Last Time <<<<<

That was more like how an RIT vs AIC game should look.

I remember a few weeks ago Wilson on the WITR postgame mentioned how he initially gave the team to the upper classmen, and they weren't responding so he might give it to the freshmen to see what they could do. It's clear the freshmen are being given all of the opportunities to prove themselves now, and wow...this is one hell of a freshman class so far.

After such a dismal start, suddenly a 5-0 goalie and hot shot rookie forwards have us headed towards the top. Sitting in 5th now with less games played than 4th place AFA.
