Rotolo in net again tonight. And with that, the Ruby era is at an end?

Rotolo seems to be playing at least as well as Ruby, if not better, and with more apparent poise and consistency.

Helps that the team's giving him more scoring support, though.

Annnnnd there's Rotolo's first collegiate shutout! 4-zip.

I'd be willing to bet he gets the start next weekend hosting AIC at the Ritter.

Seems like it was quite a rough game. Hamburg received a 10-minute misconduct in the 1st and then Cameron received a 10-minute misconduct in the 3rd along with two SHU players. Anyone know what these penalties were actually for (I would assume a fight broke out in the 3rd)?

Rotolo is on a roll and playing great hockey. Not bad for a guy who was probably the last recruit Coach brought in.

The players involved have very good 'cookie' recipe's, so good that they were worth the 10 minute majors!

Ref's seemed to let it get out of control much of the game.

Hopefully, its been long overdue. Freshmen Rotolo gets a shutout in his third start, when RIT was outshot to boot. The kid doesnt come out of the net if Im Wilson unless he seriously slumps.

This kid could be big...

OK, so is it ...

(a) Wilson is a genius for starting Rotolo,

(b) Wilson should be fired for not starting Rotolo sooner,

(c) Wilson is irrelevant, RIT would have swept SHU with RITProf in goal, or

(d) None of the above.

Just trying to save everyone some typing/reading. Hope you all had a great thanksgiving. Now just 4 points out of first with 21 to play!

B. lol

I don't wish ill on Wilson. I just don't think he is a great coach. I personally always wish him the best, seeing how I love RIT!

Well in one post I can both praise and question Wayne Wilson. This move is half why I love Wayne, the few times he does moves I find questionable they always seem to work out.

I saw little to prove to me that Rotolo deserve the starter role in his start against Saint Lawrence. He looked strong at times, but I thought he made a game that should have been over in the third much more interesting.

Now you could argue this was just a weekend against Sacred Heart, Ruby never faced a team as weak as Sacred heart all year. So it's all most unfair of Wayne not to give Ruby a start this weekend. Yet you also have to keep in mind that Ruby has been repeatedly bitten by allowing soft goals this season. So in another sense it's hard to feel sorry for him.

Bottom line: I am glad I work IT for a law firm and not the hockey head coach of RIT...

I suppose it's a sign of how successful Coach Wilson has been that one weak season and a bad start to the next is enough to have people questioning his abilities.

How long was Dave Smith coach of the Golden Griffins before they even became relevant in the AHA?

Frustratingly enough, you could argue that Canisisus' success is because of RIT's accomplishments.

Ruby did come in highly rated. It does not seem to have worked out.

Rotolo probably is not on RIT's roster if Josh Watson does not leave the team. Seems fortunate for the Tigers.

Could definitely become a great story if he continues to build on his early success. It would be a great surprise to have a good goalie for 4 solid years, but perhaps let's not get too far ahead of ourselves :p

The last RIT goalie to win his first 3 starts is <drum roll please> Jamie Morris

Interesting comments by Wilson and the radio team about how vocal Rotolo is, as Wilson mentioned he's the first goalie since DeMichiel to be that way. If that helps to organize the defense a bit, that could be a significant side benefit.

His demeanor reminds me of DeMike. He's always been an outgoing kid (he and my son were on the same high school team) but that wasn't noticeable on the ice the way it is now.

I didn't see the SLU game but he looked good on Friday and really solid on Saturday. In the first 3 minutes of the game on Friday there were two very close chances by SHU that if they had gone in might have changed the outcome of the weekend. But surviving those, he got better and better over the next 117 minutes of hockey. The second period on Saturday was the best performance by an RIT goalie I've seen in a while, including a ridiculous pad save that was all reflex and lightning fast, also reminiscent of DeMichiel.

At this point he's the starter until he loses.

Agreed. Bottom line is the RIT has gotten 3 wins with him in net and 1 with Ruby. We can debate if it is "fair" or not but that is the reality.

Definitely not (c). SHU is a far better team than I saw the past two seasons. They've had two solid recruiting classes and will get better.

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2013-2014 - Rocking The Ritter One Last Time <<<<<

I sit directly behind the RIT bench for home games. I noticed right away Rotolo interacted with the bench much different during stoppages and tv time outs during his first start. He is talking to people and trying to rally the guys on the bench. Over the years I have been used to goalies coming to the bench, drinking water quietly by themselves, and going back to the net. I liked seeing that interaction, if it really makes a difference to the other guys on the bench I'm not sure but the team has had 3 good games

Having played hockey goalies are generally kind of weird anyways but I always appreciated a goalie was more laid back and talkative.
