I don't think it's important why they aren't on the roster.

No offense, Komey, but you can't possibly be serious. Roster changes aren't important?

He did say "why", but I'm going to fall towards Powers' side on this one. "Why" actually is important (to a degree) as it says something overall about RIT and its hockey program. I think it is fair game to discuss things like "he left for personal reasons", "he left to start in goal for the Blackhawks", "he left due to academic reasons", "he broke team rules", or "wasn't happy with playing time", etc. Beyond that, I agree with Komey, "personal reasons" are personal, details of "academic troubles" are personal, "breaking team rules" is a team issue (breaking laws is not!), etc. and we fans should leave those details alone.

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2013-2014 - Rocking The Ritter One Last Time <<<<<

I think 'Why' would only really matter if let's say, 5 or 10 players jumped ship but losing two, eh..no need to dwell on that. Sure, knowing "Why" can be interesting gossip on these forums but in the grand scheme of things, doesn't really matter.

Watson was discussed on this thread. I'm sure he wasn't happy being relegated to a backup. He will also have his degree mid-year. Potts is a surprise, to be sure. Would I like to know why he is not on the roster - sure? Will I dwell on it? No. I don't think it's important.

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2013-2014 - Rocking The Ritter One Last Time <<<<<

My quick thoughts on Potts and Watson. Both showed a few moments of potential but never really worked out as everyone would have liked. It was tough with Potts cause he had that injury, maybe things would have been different. Watson had many chances, I thought had and Ruby were victims of an RIT defensive core that was in complete disarray at the start of the season. But Josh had the better breaks and all the chances before a horrible game at Niagara. If Josh had played better RIT defeats Niagara at Niagara. That was pretty much it for Watson at RIT. Inside information as to why they left is hardly ever posted on the board and if it is than that will be the last inside information that person would get.

As for the game, I thought RIT played alright on the offensive end in the first and the defense looked like a repeat of last year. Everything looked pretty good for the last two periods except finishing chances and a few shot (or should I say pass) selections. RIT needs to start getting pucks throw screens and they need someone to win battles in front of the net and score rebound goals. That been missing for years. If I hear Wilson have to talk about the team wanting to pretty all the time, one more time I am going to scream at my radio. Adam Mitchell being out doesn't help, guys like Schuler need to finish grade A scoring chances. Give the kid in nets for Queens a tip of the hat, but there was about 5 or 6 grade A scoring chances just not finished last night. I like what Wilson said about we can't feel sorry for the guys, they need to start scoring ugly goals this season!

We will have a good idea this weekend what we got. Niagara dropped both games this weekend against a Clarkson team picked to finished last in both media and coaches polls. Every team has questions marks this year. Its who solved those problems first who going to end up with a regular season title...

It's interesting to note that Queens U was playing their 5th game of the season Saturday afternoon, winning 2, and losing 2 on shoot-outs prior. They were disciplined and well-coached. RIT obviously had opening-period jitters, but settled down after that. Coach Wilson played-down the idea that he REALLY wanted to win this game when asked by the radio guys, but considering all the double-shifting going on in the third period, I'd say that was pretty obvious to us, too.

Per @CawlidgeHockeyO on twitter, Twin brothers Brady Norrish and Chase Norrish have commited to RIT. Both a defensemen.

Here's an article and short interview. http://bennywalchuk.blogspot.com/2013/10/norrish-twins-commit-to-be-tigers-next.html. Quite surprising how quickly it took to get them and how little they know about RIT. Clearly, the offer for them to stay together and both come to RIT was HUGE.

I don't think losing an exhibtion game means anything. That being said. We need to play at least 4 exhibtion games before each season. Why don't we do this? It would help the team gell and get the jitters out before the start of the season.

Because the NCAA doesn't allow it - they allow 1 exhibition game....
(with the exception of an international trip which allows 4 extra games, but only once every 4 years)

Canadian are typically easy wins for most American Colleges all though I have noticed them collecting more wins and generally playing better games last few years. This kind of game actually could serve as a good wake up call but doesn't do much for the mental well being of us fans. 2/3rds of it was great. If they play that way and finish more chances they are fine. Team just has to get going, there is no more easing into the season. Like last year you will find yourself in a hole you can not crawl out of...

Alternatively, we played well in last years exhibition and won despite using all the goalies and experimenting lines. We also won easily.

And look how that season turned out.

Maybe this auspicious start is a blessing in disguise.

Also let's not judge this team if we start 0-2 against, frankly, better teams.

Unfortunately it's likely that we start 0-4 with an outside chance of Air Force not showing up for the first league game. I hope that doesn't have too much of a damper on the team mentally.

On a side note, it looks like Niagara lost a fair amount of scoring with Murphy being suspended for the first half of the season. I think he'll be back by the time we play the Purps though.

Finally picked up my season tickets and inside there's a little "Dates to remember" paper with an event on January 25 called "RIT's Night of Champions" vs. Niagara. I don't recall reading anything about this. Anyone know what it is?

With IF being the operative word there. I can't even begin to count how many times we've talked after Tiger games the last three seasons about how many un-finished chances they had. There have been far too many periods where the Tigers completely dominated their opponent in every way but came out of it with no goals or 1 goal when they really "deserved" 3, 4, or more. When that happens occasionally, it can easily be chalked up to a hot goaltender on the other side or just bad luck. When it happens repeatedly over the course of a season or more, that's not as easy of an excuse to sell. I'm sure the coaching staff knows what the reasons are for this and have done everything they can to fix it, but it may not be something that can be coached out of players. Maybe a knack for finishing is an innate ability, not so much a learned skill. Some players have it, some just don't. I hope that last season was the beginning of the turn-around of this ability coming back onto the team (obviously in 2012-13 this wasn't as much of a problem when you look at the goal totals, but is seemed to happen nonetheless), but looking at the shot totals and the result from Saturday it's not promising yet (I wasn't there, so stats are all I have to go by).
I'm sure someone will reply to me and blast me (again) for picking on the offense for the 9th highest scoring team in the nation. I am just responding to something someone else said. I acknowledge that it was primarily the Tiger's defense and goaltending that are what made last season as miserable as it was. But as an offense, when you know that you've got a shaky back end, you not only need to score but score when it matters most and capitalize on as many grade A chances as you possibly can. Just like goalies that play for offensively inept teams know that giving up 1 or 2 goals a game sometimes just isn't enough and they need to pitch a few shutouts. It's not fair, but it is the way it is.

Technically they are allowed. Only one would be exempt from your NCAA game limit.

I think that is all fine and dandy. They're only exhibition. I don't care if we lose 5-0 in exhibition games. They're there for using different lines, tweeking lines and strategies. It would help both the players and coaches.
