Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2013-2014 - Rocking The Ritter One Last Time <<<<<

If someone were to go back and compile a list of off-topic squabbles that got unnecessarily personal here, I think your name would be intimately involved with every one. Are you a fan of RIT hockey or a fan of stupid internet drama?

Says the pot to the kettle. Your most recent example....

Hopefully the Corner Crew can come up with some witty lines and signage..

As for Colgate, not only have they already played "real" games this season, but they split against a pretty solid Ferris State team. However I think they represent our best chance at picking up a win this weekend, even though I picked RIT to get the upset on Saturday, I can't really rationalize that..it's more of a gut feeling. Colgate I think we can beat if we come ready to play. All eyes have to be on Ruby (and the defense) this weekend.

Just so I don't set off your content monitoring alarm..... I think RIT should give Colgate a decent game and have a real shot at winning. COlgate isn't that good by my estimating. Of course this is all on how Wilson handles the game. If he decides to use it as more of an exhibition then all bets are off.

Don't give Colgate many PP opportunities, they are very good with Spink, Spink, and Baun.

Idk.... We're playing the worst Michigan team in decades. The Wolverines also managed to lose their exhibition this year. Maybe if RIT can pull it's act together, we can profit from Michigans slump.

Sounds like that should be like a boy band song "Spink, Spink, Baun!"...

Matt, you basically repeated about 90% of what I said and then imply I am giving him a pass? How does that work, you got 10K laying around to pay for a DWI charge (If so why was it not donated to the rink). You think a Student Athlete does? I would offer that learning where not to stick your nose is part of "Maturing"...

Unfortunatly I think the Michigan team for this season is better than the team from last season. So while you are correct in that Michigan is still on a down year for them, they are still probably a top 10 team in the nation.

I guess I misinterperted your comment of: "I am not telling you to take pity on the kid, just saying he doesn't deserved to be raked over the coals either." For me that is giving him a pass. I humbly apologize if I was wrong. Mature enough for you?

And I was attempting (& I suspect you know) to speak more to his hockey part of his life and not the criminal charges.

Very rough game tonight. I thought Ruby looked pretty good. The D was shaky at best. The O was bad. Good news is that it was game 1. Bad news is a lot of work to be done and Michigan game is coming fast.

My main thought .... Colgate and Canisius deserve each other.

I must be watching a totally different game than everyone else.

I thought the Tigers had a lot of energy tonight; they had a real spring in their step. But Coach Wilson said on the postgame that they were just standing around watching.

Certainly Colgate was faster and more skilled with the puck, and that put us back on our heels a lot. That's what happens when we play superior teams. But I can't fault the Tigers' effort.

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2013-2014 - Rocking The Ritter One Last Time <<<<<

This was total domination from Colgate. I'm thinking that they are underrated in the ECAC. Ruby stood out - it would have been worse if not for him.

The Tigers could not get set up in the offensive zone much and the defense gave up too many chances. I don't know if they were standing around or just frustrated that they could not do anything. Yes it's tough that Adam Mitchell and Dan Schuler are out with injury, but they better figure something out quick or Michigan will be a LONG game.

No, you played the worst Michigan team in decades last year. I don't even think they were as bad as the record showed last year. There were a lot of internal problems in the locker room & a lack of leadership. However I give them somewhat of a pass early on because it's pretty hard replacing arguably the greatest goaltender in Michigan history and your options being two Freshman and a career third stringer.

What I saw tonight was a team that is determined to not have an awful start like the past two years.

I mostly agree. Except for the first 5-10 minutes of the 1st, the Tigers were outplayed. Ruby was good and made some nice saves and kept the Tigers in it. It could have been much worse if the Ruby from the beginning of last season was in net. That is the real positive take away that I got from the game.

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2013-2014 - Rocking The Ritter One Last Time <<<<<

RIT had decent 1st and parts of the 2nd. They didn't get many shots but they hit a lot and made it entertaining. By the end of the 2nd and through the 3rd I agree with coach that RIT started to run out of steam. RIT was watching the play many times while Colgate kept themselves anticipating and controlling the game. Not all players did this but as a whole the team fell flat. The penalty kill was pretty passive as well, maybe Colgate just moved the puck really well

I thought Ruby played awesome, Garbowsky stood out, and Thompson brought a lot of hits. I made ad-hoc effort to track how much the freshman were on the ice, which wasn't much. The first period there were a lot of specials teams play but still even in the 2nd and 3rd Skriving, Smith, and Cameron only got a couple shifts. That gave me the impression coach took a little different approach to this NC game and wasn't "playing with lines" but was going with experience to try to win

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2013-2014 - Rocking The Ritter One Last Time <<<<<

After that first period, I was feeling like RIT could win. I know the shots were off, but our special teams on paper and in practice was nothing compared to theirs. Then the second and third... RIT just looked tired. I was happy to see them hitting, but they just had no offensive zone presence. I agree with that others say, Ruby was looking much better than last year. Idk what it is about his play style though, but every time he drops into butterfly I feel like he's going to over react and go flying across the ice. As long as it works for him, then cool, but it looks he always super excited to get down on the ice and go sliding.

It really doesn't help that Adam Mitchell and Dan Schuler were out. I'm not sure what is up with Mitchell, but hopefully we can get Schuler back for the Clarkson games.

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2013-2014 - Rocking The Ritter One Last Time <<<<<

I'm certainly not an expert (just ask coach Wilson) but from what I saw in the exhibition and heard about last night, the Tigers are having trouble against a strong forecheck. Despite getting 50 shots on net against Queens, I saw them getting bottled up and forced into some turnovers, especially in the first period. I hear the same thing happened last night.

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2013-2014 - Rocking The Ritter One Last Time <<<<<

Allow me to reprase and elaborate...
but they better figure something out quick or 2013-14 will be a LONG season.
That was distressing to watch.
No offense whatsoever. Someone mentioned that RIT played pretty even through the first 5-10 minutes of the first period. I disagree. If it weren't for the consecutive power plays (and the 14 seconds of 5-on-3) during which the Tigers piled up a quick 5 shots on goal, they only generated 1 other shot through the entire first period, which appeared to me to be credited to RIT despite actually coming off an errant pass off a Raider stick from the opposite end of the ice (maybe they were crediting an actual RIT shot from earlier that they had missed, but it went on the board after an "own-shot"). So if you throw out the 3:36 of power play that actually went well, the Tigers' offense was absent the entire rest of the first period. I can only distinctly remember a couple other times where the Tigers gained and retained possession in the Colgate zone for any extended time to generate multiple shots through the rest of the game.
Given the complete lack of offense, it is almost surprising how few shots Colgate actually generated. 36 is a fair number, but with the complete lack of attack time RIT had, one would expect Colgate to have been on the attack for 40 -50 minutes. The Raiders played well, but either RIT was doing something right defensively or Colgate isn't that strong offensively either. They should have been able to pile up 50 or more shots. I'm not going to claim that it was a defensive masterpiece, but it could have been much worse. They definitely lapsed a few times and took a few dumb penalties (nothing new there), but the rest of the time didn't appear quite as pourous as last season.
And of course if it weren't for Ruby, it could have easily been 6, 7, or more 'Gate goals.
While I am trying to take some positives from that listless performance, it still was not good. Fortunately, it's only one game and they have time to fix whatever was wrong last night, but if they don't, they won't win too many games in or out of conference this season.

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2013-2014 - Rocking The Ritter One Last Time <<<<<

Defensemen are getting bottled up way to easily. Hard to generate offense when your throwing the puck all over your zone and giving it away. Need a Greg Noyes to set up or someone please.

Hard to find a positive out side of Ruby thus far. Seems like the Tigers are set up for a big time embarrassment in front of a sold out crowd. They need something positive to build on...

And Michigan beat BC tonight!

My main thought .... Colgate and Canisius deserve each other.

Why because Thompson horrible dive or because RIT got their butts handed to them? They got beat, and if not for Ruby it could have been worst, tip your hat and move on...

Sometimes I feel like I am from another planet... Okay moving on...

See last night's result against BC and then I suggest you edit your post...
