RIT Tigers 2012-2013 season

Re: RIT Tigers 2012-2013 season

Up to and including this year, RIT was a D3 program from a recruiting perspective. Except for Elmira, all of the schools that you mentioned are D1 programs that can either offer money (schollys) or prestige (Ivy). It is not surprising at all that Edge players looked elsewhere in the past as scholarship money is tough to pass up. As we all know, it is tough for any aid-based D3 program to compete with that.

Now that RIT is D1, judge their recruiting efforts going forward as they are on more of an even playing field with the programs you mentioned (except Elmira).
Because they are still a D3 school and moved up in hockey after the implementation of Divisions in the NCAA, they are still not allowed to offer athletic scholarships. (Note that Union College is in a similar situation.)

I know, they never will offer scholarships. Neither does Cornell as they are Ivy. My point was that a D1 program will almost always beat a D3 program when it comes to recruiting. There are obviously exceptions, but as a general rule, top players would chose D1 offers over D3 offers. Next years recruiting class will be the first that RIT will have that will be done so with the knowledge that the D1 level is a reality. Hockey mom from the east is questioning why in the past RIT hasn't recruited from their own backyard and I believe it is because it wasn't an apples to apples choice for the recruit. That's all. :)

Maybe I'm missing something, with all this D1 recruiting advantages, being the reason RIT not picking up any local kids in the past. Most Tier one U19 programs send some kids to D1, but also some kids to D3. Everything else being equal, you would think that Edge kids ending up at D3 would have looked at RIT as a good D3 option in the past, giving the strength of the program. In most locales, the local college program, whether it be D1, D3 or up here CIS, tends to pick up a kid or two from the local minor programs, as some kids do want to stay close to home.

P.S....Cali...May be seeing you later this year, as one of my D's team faces RIT this season.

Without having an in depth knowledge of the situation each kid that HMFE is referencing it's all just speculation. RIT has shown a tendency to pull from Ontario for a considerable number of their recruits but I can not speak specifically about what HMFE is stating. Perhaps she shoul email Coach McDonald for that answer?

OnMaa, based on previous posts, I am presuming that you and your D are in for the Homecoming Weekend in October. The Saturday afternoon is at the Blue Cross Arena and they are hoping for 3000-4000 spectators which would be amazing. If it's the Friday game, I will be at the Ritz after for a pint so I might see you there.

Unfortunately given the schedule played by a team such as the Edge I would not think you will see many players on to that next level. Did they play Stoney university showcase/ !NAHA/ etc? A player like Cardella ended up at Naha if I recall prior to D1. Looking at the national camp selections how many girls are from the Edge program? If USA hockey who is in charge of development does not choose from the EDGE with their mandatory district selections why would a high end hockey program?

Over the past few years they have had girls go to Maine, SLU, Cornell, Colgate, BU, Wisconison, Elmira (this does include the girls that left for NAHA) but none to RIT.
At the Stoney Creek Showcase this past weekend I sat with, while our girls played each other, the families had opinions on RIT and that the coach tends to not bother with Rochester players?
Don't kill the messenger I just thought it was a very strange relationship.

Did the Edge even have a u19 team last year?
How have they done in the big tournaments (naha, union and stoney creek) this year?

How many local kids does Penn state, Syracuse, rmu, mercyHurst and lindenwood Have on their rosters?

Re: RIT Tigers 2012-2013 season

Both RMU and Penn State have been pulling a lot of kids from Pennsylvania recently. (This may be due to the U19 AAA programs in PA greatly improving in the last few years).

This year, No, but the year before they hit Stoney Creek and a few other big tournaments my daughter's team was also in.
Considering Rochester, and WNY is a huge hockey hotbed I don't think comparing it to the St Louis area (Lindenwood) is. Syracuse hasn't had a u19 teir 1 team in quite a few years so SU can't draw from there but when you look at RMU and Mercyhurst they have a few home-towners.

Yet again this is me just asking, my daughter went off to college the other way so I'm not as fimilar with the CHA.

Take one last look at that Tigers logo on the front page of USCHO.com... it'll be a while before we see it there again. Sure has been nice all summer, though.

Well, that went about how I expected it to honestly.

I'd say slightly better (neglecting the first 18 seconds) actually. While MU was clearly the better team last night (as fully expected), I thought the tigers showed that they are not too far away and should certainly be making some serious noise in another year or two. Way too early for conclusions, of course, but that's my impression after 1 game. It will be interesting to see how today goes.

I would agree with that RITProf. There were lots of positives to be pulled from that game going forward. Payerl looked very impressive in her debut. I look forward to round 2.

Re: RIT Tigers 2012-2013 season

We played to a 2-2 tie over the final two periods. Absolutely nothing to panic about yet.

Interestingly, the D&C says Binnington gets the start this afternoon. She played well, but Chamberlain was left out to dry on her three allowed goals. I think Laura got a bum rap here.

Trust me. The Lakers were up 6-0 half way through the 2nd. If the Lakers could have made the score 12-0 if they wanted. However, welcome to Div 1 RIT.

I just completely disagree with that assessment. Especially evidenced by the several power plays RIT had where they dominated the Mercyhurst zone.

Re: RIT Tigers 2012-2013 season

Well, after playing a 0-0 first period, it sounds like RIT has run out of legs. 7-0 MU with about 8:00 to go in the 3rd. Someone who is at the game will have to confirm my suspicions though.

Might be tougher to find the positives in todays game. I'm surprised there is such a gap between the best D3 team and a D1 team.
