Definitely frustrating to see the team struggle like this. I thought the team really played well in the first just couldn't beat Komm. In the second there was some let down in energy and they came back some in the third. They also managed to stay out of the box, I think Kuqali got the only penalty. I picked a split this weekend so not completely surprised by a loss. I know people are ****ed they aren't seeing the Tigers win at home every weekend but I think some of the comments are getting out line.

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2012-2013 - Locked, Loaded, And Ready To Roar <<<<<

In one word ... "inconsistent".

As Coach Wilson has said for years, there is a lot of parity across much of the AHA. A team needs to play consistently at its best to be near the top of the standings. RIT teams of the recent past have done that, got the bounces etc. This year's team has not and the results are obvious. The standings do not lie at this point of the season.

When the coach is quoted as saying "Our will to win, especially down the upcoming stretch of games needs to be stronger" ... it also says there is a serious problem, perhaps the cause of the "inconsistency".

I'm also still a fan, but a fan with realistic assessments and expectations. As Komey1 suggested, these appear to be short term problems and not the kind of problems that will make RIT a perennial doormat of the AHA. One might look at the relative positions of Quinnipiac and Cornell in this year's ECAC standings to see some similarity to the relative positions of Niagara and RIT. I'm sure Cornell fans are saying some harsh things right now, but I doubt anyone seriously thinks Cornell is through as a top team long term.

I was there as well. I thought the crowd was very quiet. I thought a couple dumb moves were capitalized on by Bentley. I felt that for once we didn't have to beat the refs & the other team. We had a lot of chances that unfortunately a very good goalie stopped. Their goalie does have a temper & can be thrown off his game as we have witnessed last year at the JAR. Their goalie head-butted our guy & in any other real league would have been gone from the game. We managed to keep a player who is leading the country in points per game off the scoresheet, which is no small feat.

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2012-2013 - Locked, Loaded, And Ready To Roar <<<<<

I think the first goal will be crucial for RIT tonight. They need to see that they can beat Komm and put pressure on Bentley. There can't be mistakes.

A comment was made about 1 penalty. I think that is part of the problem. Teams aren't afraid of getting knocked around by the Tigers. There are so few "big hits", and no real enforcer. I can't think of a single person who constantly is throwing their body around trying to hit people like McReynolds and Knowles.

Two images that stuck out to me from last night was McGowen looking up after yet another scoring chance lost, and Hartley getting knocked on his rear in the last minute flurry to avoid getting shutout. Even the salute was half-heated, and the Corner Crew cheering was half hearted.

EVERYONE has to be better. The goaltending has to be better. The defense has to be better. The offense has to be better. The coaching has to be better. The cheering has to be better. If you feel like you are a part of the team, that is our job. Encourage the team. Try to make them play off our emotion. The Corner Crew sometimes uses the "Fire It Up, Tigers" chant at the wrong times, but when they needed it last night, it was not there. If they get a win, they will be tied with the loser of the UConn-Robert Morris game. There is still time to do something with this season. It starts now.

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2012-2013 - Locked, Loaded, And Ready To Roar <<<<<

But the problem is - they didn't play badly tonight. They dominated large parts of the game and I know I shouldn't be surprised that no one on here saw that but I am.

Well 585..I didn't see the game but listened to our radio guys, so you may have something there if you felt they didn't play badly and it just didn't translate on the scoreboard. However when our radio guys mention turning up the mics to let us listen to the quiet crowd, when they mention that the team is half a step behind the Bentley players, when they are basically calling it like they are seeing it (which I appreciate), then I hope you can see where some of our comments are originating from.

That said, I hope a different RIT team hits the ice tonight, as there are no fair-weather RIT fans on this thread, we all want to see RIT succeed.

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2012-2013 - Locked, Loaded, And Ready To Roar <<<<<

Even after a good nights sleep to cool off, I can't for the life of me figure out how people saw us playing a good game last night.

The defense struggled to clear the puck out of their own zone, even when there was no one around them. Too many times did they try for the fantastic two line pass only to have a Bentley player grab it in the neutral zone or, even worse, at the blue line. Our point coverage in the offensive zone was also pretty bad. I can recall clearly no less than three times our forwards threw it to the point only to find it abandoned as the puck went into the neutral zone. Their second goal should have an RIT player listed as the primary assist, as he threw it from the edge of the faceoff circle to straight in front of Watson - where there was no one around but Bentley. It was pretty clear what Watson felt about the play.

Our lack of physical play led us to lose a lot of the 1 on 1 battles, and we also lost the battle in front of the net all night. We had plenty of pretty passes to the front of the net, but our guys could never get their sticks on it before Bentley would knock them around or lift their stick. And how come no one is pointing out that our powerplay was completely punchless, even if you ignore the two huge scoring chances they handed Bentley shorthanded (thanks to the aforementioned passing).

Everyone has a bad game from time to time, and last night was absolutely a bad game. That wouldn't be nearly as frustrating if it didn't come at home in the middle of a bad season. Every time this team gives you a glimmer of hope they seem to crush it the next weekend. Reminds me a lot of following the lockout news.

The cheering has to be better.

At one point during the broadcast, I turned the crowd microphone up to about three times its normal volume to demonstrate how quiet it was in the arena. I can't remember the last time I heard the Ritter so dead. (Maybe during open skate?)

Looks like the boys are getting fired up on Twitter. Let's hope it translates to the ice tonight!

I certainly don't think they were terrible all game (and in fact all my post mentioned was the 2nd period), but it's the same old story with this team. Lapses and breakdowns resulting in goals at the other end. The turnover that lead to the 3rd goal was absolutely brutal and pretty much put the game to bed, and the turnover that wasn't finished while we were on the power play was ugly too. This team doesn't seem to be able to get through a game without giving up 3 or 4 goals - whether it's because of bad defense, forwards not getting back, or poor goaltending doesn't really matter. You can't consistently win giving up that kind of goal total night to night.

At some point you are what your record says you are, and the Tigers haven't managed to beat anyone except AIC and Sacred Heart in conference. They're 0-4-1 against the stronger Western pod. Even many of the games they've won they've played from behind in. It's not really surprising to me that the Ritter crowd has lost a lot of their swagger. The last time RIT had any kind of run of home results like this was their rookie year in D-1. Before that I don't know how far back you'd have to go. A lot of people were frustrated with last year's team (especially early) as well, and that year's team only lost two conference games all year at the Ritter.

Well I for one was certainly yelling my *** off all night. No one seemed to join me though...

The Tale of Two Tigers continues. I don't know how they can be so bad and good in the same weekend, but tonight is definitely the way to rebound from a loss..

Like Winters said...the tale continues...and nice rebound from last night.

I bet the radio guys get to interview coach tonight...:)

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2012-2013 - Locked, Loaded, And Ready To Roar <<<<<

The one thing I really hope this team takes away from tonight's win is the physical play. They set the tone right from the puck drop with hard, physical play. Lots of hits and a good number of very big hits. That's what this team needs to keep doing, as it's been sorely lacking.

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2012-2013 - Locked, Loaded, And Ready To Roar <<<<<

First period effort was strong again tonight, and we got rewarded for it this time. The momentum carried us through the second, and the third was neutral.

Two things stand out for me this game. First, I actually heard a guy in the crowd call the players a bunch of clowns when we were up 3-0. He looked a little like a clown himself so that may have been a compliment; I couldn't tell for sure.

The other thing was the Bentley player who got the worse end of the knee-on-knee contact late in the game. Did anyone else see that? Not sure if the broadcast got a good view but it looked pretty bad from where I was sitting. He tried to play out his shift but it was obvious he should have headed straight for the bench.

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2012-2013 - Locked, Loaded, And Ready To Roar <<<<<

That was the upside of "inconsistent".

Playing like that for most of the remaining games could at least make the playoffs interesting.

Nice to see a solid "W" and a shutout. And if it had to be a split, I like the order in which it happened.

Let's see some more "W"s on the road and then a sellout for Niagara and we might have a turnaround.

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2012-2013 - Locked, Loaded, And Ready To Roar <<<<<

And so the momentum swings again. After what some of us considered the worst lost of the year, they go out and play one of their best games of the year. Six points separate RIT from 2nd place - and they play 2nd place Army next weekend. If they get 3 or 4 points out of there, the standings get very interesting.

That's what I'm not seeing. I didn't see a huge change in the way RIT played from yesterday to today. Bentley, yes -- Komm was fighting the puck, and Bentley wasn't getting their outlet passes with nearly as much consistency. Maybe some of that was RIT playing better defense and making better shots, but mostly I think Bentley looked a lot weaker tonight.

Thanks for that enlightening comment "powers" truth is aside from 2nd period last night we dominated Bentley and showed that we still own them, provided we dont get deflated by a weak early garbage goal that a mite would save. We controlled and owned the games this weekend aside from some let downs but then ultimate redemption by Watson. RIT can beat anyone if they just show up and are passionate, like tonight.
