And so the momentum swings again. After what some of us considered the worst lost of the year, they go out and play one of their best games of the year. Six points separate RIT from 2nd place - and they play 2nd place Army next weekend. If they get 3 or 4 points out of there, the standings get very interesting.

How soon we forget game #1 against Holy Cross, that was the worse game of the year!

Didn't see the games but the Tigers put 41 shots on Komm Friday night. Maybe he just played hit butt off that night and the tiger defense gave up it's usual 3 to 4 goals without the offense being able to score against a hot goalie.

On Saturday, he wasn't so hot and the Tiger D and Watson were which led to the win.

I think a lot of what we think about this teams current state of play is based off previous losses this season. Maybe we need to take a fresh look at them starting with games after the break (2-2) and go from there. From here on out, these are the games that matter.

Thanks for that enlightening comment "powers" truth is aside from 2nd period last night we dominated Bentley and showed that we still own them, provided we dont get deflated by a weak early garbage goal that a mite would save. We controlled and owned the games this weekend aside from some let downs but then ultimate redemption by Watson. RIT can beat anyone if they just show up and are passionate, like tonight.

Love your orange and brown colored glasses.

The difference between Friday and Saturday is passion and heart. I got to go back and watch both games again. A few thoughts...

I didn't think Bentley was a superior team talent wise, but they played the better game on Friday. The first period on Friday was RIT's and but for a semi-weak goal let in by Watson they should have come out of it tied at worst. Maybe that would have changed things. About 1/3 of the way through the second on Friday RIT players were just flat out played from then on. The second goal was all due to laziness on the forwards not getting back. The third goal should definitely have an assist to Mitchell. Overall the team just didn't have the mental toughness on Friday to overcome some adversity.

Saturday was just the opposite. I good quick goal set the tone and the team played hard all night. The hustle was there and the goaltending was good. They need to keep the energy level at Saturday nights level to gain some momentum. The team just doesn't have the talent to be lazy or not give their best effort and come away with any points. It's got to be 60 hard played, high energy, hockey for RIT every night out. If they can do that then I can see them getting into the top third of the AHA. Otherwise, well, thankfully AIC and SH are in the league to be the bottom dwellers.

Saturday, RIT decided to play physical and hit people. THAT was the differance along with getting the quick goal.

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2012-2013 - Locked, Loaded, And Ready To Roar <<<<<

Here how I see the bottom line from this weekend. Outside of the second period of Friday night’s game I was mostly happy with how RIT played. May have even played better in the 1st and 3rd periods Friday than Saturday entire game. They got the bounces was the main difference. It was beyond frustrating to see the team get completely out of sorts for about 10 minutes of the second. Was nice in the end to see Watson get a shutout on Saturday.

I went through the lineup and tried to pick out a player I would like to see go and could not do it. This team can beat anyone. No doubt in my mind that if they can get to Blue Cross and the championship game against even Niagara they have a decent chance. It just you do not know what RIT team you are going to get on any given night.

This team is in danger of being the worst I have seen (since 98-99), but what just blows the mind if I see a ton of talent on the team which is just failing to perform on a consistent basis. Let me tell you nothing would honestly surprise me from this week’s coming games against Army. No matter what the result 1, 2, 3, or a sweep seems anything can happen…

This is a little off-topic, but I have a question about penalties

On Saturday during the second period, Hamburg took a boarding penalty and Saracino and Marginsky both got face-masking all at the same time. The scoreboard only showed Saracino's minor. Later in the third, Descoteaux and Kubiak both got high-sticking minors at the same time, but the scoreboard showed both of those minors.

Why in the second did the two face-masking penalties not cancel each other (leaving Hamburg's penalty on the scoreboard) but both of the high-sticking minors were shown?

Why in the second did the two face-masking penalties not cancel each other (leaving Hamburg's penalty on the scoreboard) but both of the high-sticking minors were shown?

It's because if two minor penalties (one on each team) are called at the same time while teams are playing 5 on 5, both result in a loss of manpower for each team, and they play 4 on 4 for 2 minutes. If more than 2 penalties are called, the equal penalties will wash each other out (in this case Saracino and Kubiak's - I believe it is the coach's choice whose penalty will be coincidental and whose will result in the PP) and the leftover penalties will be the only ones that results in a loss of man power.

And, as a rule, only penalties that result in less skaters on the ice are put up on the scoreboard.

Looking at the AHA standings, it's hard to believe RIT is still absolutely within striking distance after their season so far.

Army is in second place and only has 3 more wins than we do. If we were to sweep them this weekend, we'd be neck and neck with them. Obviously other teams results will change the standings too, but with plenty of games left to play, it's anybodies ballgame.

Except Niagara, I don't see any way in which they fail to remain top dog.

Well there's a good possibility that the two teams in front of us could split their weekend series (Uconn hosting Mercyhurst, Bentley hosting Canisius) so we can gain if we take care of business. I'll be at both games this weekend since it's in my neck of the woods, hope lots of RIT folks show up, I understand there is an alumni get together this weekend at Thayer Hotel on West Point so chances are good there will be more than just me in the crowd wearing orange.

Could this also be the weekend that Sacred heart gets a win (vs. Air Force)? The longer Sacred Heart goes w/o a win the more I would not want to be playing them...

I doubt it. They are just that bad.

Anyone hear what the folks from SiriusXM thought about their visit to the Ritter on Saturday?

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2012-2013 - Locked, Loaded, And Ready To Roar <<<<<

Random question about getting out of the penalty box. Here's the scenario:

Last Saturday, RIT took two penalties and Bentley took one (i.e., offsetting minors for RIT and Bentley for facemasking (Saracino and a Bentley player), plus one extra minor penalty to RIT (Descoteaux, I think)). This resulted in a 5-4 for Bentley. When two minutes were up, Descoteaux got out of the box, but the players who took the offsetting penalties had to wait for a stoppage of play. Does anyone know why?

My girlfriend speculates that they would have to wait for a stoppage of play to avoid having too many men on the ice (I'm so proud!). Does anyone know for sure?

Your girlfriend is correct. Same thing if someone is serving a 10 minute

According to the D&C, Tyler Brenner has been called up to the Marlies.

Good for Brenner - makes sence now that the NHL is back that the Marlies that would be playing for the Leafs open up spots for him. Also hoping that Tanev gets a little more playing time this year and his first goal.

Here's a big what if........

If the tigers win the AH tourney, the current bracketology:

Northeast Regional:
16 Colgate vs. 1 New Hampshire
9 Yale vs. 8 Denver

Could look like this:

Northeast Regional:
16 RIT vs. 1 New Hampshire
9 Yale vs. 8 Denver

Look familiar?

For those wondering about RIT's ability to recurit "blue chip" players. UCONN has two recurits on the NHL Central Scouting mid-term rankings. What changing leagues can do...

Scholarships can also help, although you can pick up a blue chipper if you can practically guarantee play time, which is how Union College is able to get those sorts of players.
