Alright. The defense is not very good. We know this by now. It's not getting better, apparently.

However, we need a goaltender who can make the big save. Even if he gets hung out to dry, one big save can energize the team. Right now you can pretty much count our mistakes by the number of goals they score. Ruby continues to fight the puck, and at this point I have to hold my breath at every shot. I hate to railroad the guy, I'm sure he's a good kid, but Watson needs to come out tomorrow and earn the starting job. We can't platoon a goalie whose given up 4 goals or more every game except AIC (which he failed to win anyway).

Offense looked decent. Would be nice to score more than 3 goals on 42+ shots, but the PP was good and we had lots of chances. The whole team just seemed to take shifts off, and whenever we got momentum something bad would happen, such as Noyes trying to erase someone from existence.

Tomorrow is a must-win game.

Why is the RIT game not on AmericaOne? ***

The America One computer (which is still running XP) was sitting in pieces on the floor of the press box. Someone was working on it but they never got it up and running as far as I know.

It's on time Warner cable. Seems that when its on time Warner it's not on America one.

All of the games should be on America One, TWC or not.

My friend and I were just talking about him tonight, he played one of the games in Michigan (Friday I think). How interesting.

Edit: oops didn't read far enough to see jgRIT's post, sorry!

I'm a bit more concerned seeing the dominant wins by NU, RMU, and AFA last night. I don't think I even have a "panic button" but it sure would be nice to see RIT get a lopsided win like that sooner (like tonight) rather than later (like next season).

Looks like it's going to be a bumpy ride this year ... but that could make a playoff run all the more exciting.

2-5-1, that's a big hole to start the season off in.

If Watson shines tonight, I think he's your number 1 goalie the rest of the year and hopefully that first number starts to rise.

@Ed, why do you hate XP? :D

That's only 1pt worse than the 3-5-0 start the Tigers had in 2009-2010. I'm not saying that this year will end up with the frozen four, just that there's a lot of the season yet to be written. Of course, in '09 those 3 wins were in a row, and the start of a long winning streak.

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2012-2013 - Locked, Loaded, And Ready To Roar <<<<<

We didn't really start hitting until the end of the second period. We were playing Mercyhurst's game instead of RIT's style. And it showed; passing was on-target but slow, and everyone was trying to do everything by themselves instead of dishing it off to the open man.

Emblematic: The first shift of the second period. We won the faceoff, skated around with it in the neutral zone for ten seconds, FAILED to dump or bring the puck into their zone. Instead, coughed up the puck and they go in on Ruby and score. If you ask me, that was the backbreaking goal; it restored 'Hurst's two-point lead. Yes we tied the game after that, but we didn't seem to take any momentum from the tie.

If we'd been more physical from the start, maybe we would have gotten a few more power plays, and gone 3-6 instead of a meaningless 2-3.

Take 3 or more points from each of the Eastern Pod teams (no small task), and split the 6 points (or better) with the Western Pod teams and RIT will be in good shape heading into the playoffs. I was at NU-Army last night, NU scored fast and often early in the first period and that was that. Bonus...met an NU fan who was an RIT alum and played at RIT with the NU coach. Good people. Agree with blazer, be nice to settle on a #1 goalie soon, that could only help our D.

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2012-2013 - Locked, Loaded, And Ready To Roar <<<<<

Unless the defense starts stepping up, then it will be a tough year for the Tigers no matter who is in goal. If they are going to play better with Watson, then he should be the primary starter.

The big thing is that the defense is giving up the back door play all too often, and it is being taken advantage of. Also, who is the guy that is going to give the big hit? I don't recall to many of the Tigers giving up the body. This is where we miss McReynolds and Knowles especially. This is the thing that concerns me more than anything else with this team.

Is my finger on the panic button? Not yet - but it is close. This is the first time RIT has lost 2 home conference games since they joined the AHA. Not good. There are still visits from AFA and Niagara. Doing the math, I think tonight's game is a MUST for even just getting a first round bye.

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2012-2013 - Locked, Loaded, And Ready To Roar <<<<<

I think the starting goalie job is Watson's to lose at this point. Hopefully he doesn't lose it tonight because we really need a win!
Regardless, we need start putting more pucks in the net. Forty+ shots on goal is great, but more of those shots need to go in. It doesn't seem like we are going to win with defense this season.

Because XP doesn't support modern versions of IE and it's costly in time doing web development. :)

It's actually quite different - that year their first two conference losses were visits to Air Force, where frankly they hardly ever win, and the rest of the games were non-conference. This year, we've already dropped a point at AIC and two home games to two Western pod teams we usually at least get a point from at home.

Anyway, I was at the game, and I was astounded at how many odd man rushes RIT gave up. I believe only two of the MU goal's were on them, then one blown coverage in front (something else that has been a theme) and a long screened point shot (the only one I felt Ruby could have been better on). The power play is much, much better than it was last year, but despite the high shot total RIT struggled to create quality chances at ES - don't let the final shot total fool you, MU had the better chances over the course of the game.

Onward to tonight...this is about as close to a must win as you can get early in the season. Dropping the home game to Canisius could be devastating.

Scrum in front of the Canisus net. Looked like Capobianco smothered it but from the ceiling camera it was clear that he kicked it in right at the endof the play. Just before the ref waved his arms. Too bad AHA doesn't use replays. Would be 2-1 Tigers.

RIT home games are the only reason I keep TWC here in Utica.

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2012-2013 - Locked, Loaded, And Ready To Roar <<<<<

The more I watch this team the more I am convinced this is a defensive coaching/discipline issue, and unless these players are uncoachable, this falls squarely on Wayne Wilson's shoulders.
