You're more likely to see some dumba** hold up a tasteless sign than hear a cheer about it.

Well in no way a defense for the actions that are almost certain to happen, I'm sure Penn State is going to hear it everywhere they go this year. At least we're trying to be proactive about it, but it's pretty hard to police a group as, erm..outspoken as the Corner Crew.

That's underselling it a bit. It's the featured article on the front page today, and it shows some renderings we (or at least I) haven't seen before.

About those renderings, though...

Is it just me, or does this look a bit underwhelming? The seating seems shallow, and I'm worried about the acoustics of those rafters. On the outside, it looksl ike just another brick-and-glass RIT building; where's the attractive white entrance plaza we saw in earlier renderings?

If the seating is as shallow as it is in the main rink at MCC this new arena will be a disaster.

Looking quite nice. One thing's for sure, if you're going to be playing your D-III brethren on a regular basis, I think that will be one nice place to visit, as far as drawings are concerned (although since our ECAV turned out nice, I have every confidence the construction will go just as well). The higher capacity rink is definitely needed, though, especially if you've already sold out a 10,000-seater for Penn State.

Here's the Sports Centre at MCC's main rink (where Nazareth is playing): http://cdn1.ngin.com/attachments/photo/0576/1399/Rink1_180degree_large.jpg

The Polissini Center's stands look steeper, but that could be a result of the fisheye photo of the Sports Center. But I do still have my concerns.

It looks like the new arena will have a steep bowl. This is what the FAQ says:
* The arena bowl will replicate the steep pitch and low ceiling of Ritter Arena, in order to recreate the intimacy and intensity of Ritter-we intend to keep our fans on top of the action.

The FAQ was written a long time ago, even before an architect was selected.

I'm not willing to hang my hat on the comparison of a rendering with a wide-angle photo to determine pitch. Normally I wouldn't harp on an issue like this on a message board, but this cannot be emphasized enough. Someone made a very bad decision (well, many bad decisions) at ESL (now MCC) regarding the pitch of the bowl. If the same mistake is made at the Poli it will ruin the atmosphere for those of us who actually want to watch the game. It is not a matter of sitting or standing, either. With a shallow bowl you cannot see anything except what is directly in front of you. It will be worse in a sold out arena, where you will have to look through heads to see left and right.

I appeal to the architects - please don't make this mistake!

I understand your concerns, but the architects probably aren't reading this thread. =)

I know it's bad luck to be too optimistic before a game...

But after struggling with AIC, Penn State got shut down 3-0 tonight by D3 opponent Buffalo State.

I have a really, really good feeling about tomorrow.

Tigers are going to embarrass those Nittany Lions.

And what does that say about AIC?? Are they going to have a very long season ...

Anything can happen, of course, but I'd rather see RIT beat AFA 1-0 in the BCA than see a lopsided win against a football school (not saying that Penn State won't become a hockey school someday). I'd even rather see a close-fought loss to a team like Michigan (both a football and hockey school) or BC (a hockey school ;)).

I hope what you say is true. I have been following the Tigers for years now, and this a team that plays up or down with the opposing teams talent. As MIKITA (Dan Barrows) once said "Don't underestimate the bottom feeders." You cou;d either see a 8-0 RIT Tigers win or a scrappy 2-1 RIT Tigers win.

Any chance I am on active duty now so this is going to be my first homecoming away from RIT :(

GO TIGERS

The 3-0 loss by PSU was probably bad news for the Tigers. Guy Gadowski is one of the best coaches in the business. He will have them prepared and refocused. They gave Buff State 11 power plays and that's where all three goals came from. Then they failed to capitalize on nine power plays of their own.

PSU is going to shoot, shoot shoot. Gadowski teams rarely get outshot. RIT has more talent but needs to block lanes and get good goaltending.

Well that game was amazing. Penn State killed off a 4 minute powerplay to end the game. As a PSU fan, I couldn't be happier. It'll probably be our biggest win this year.

Embarrassing. End of story. This completely undoes the Michigan win.

How you can't be ready to play in front of 10K is mind numbing.

And the special teams needs to be fixed. We almost lost the one game we won on the power play Thursday night in Michigan. Our first attempt tonight was really good and didn't come through. The rest of the attempts were just bad.

That's almost a direct quote from a highly-placed RIT official after the game tonight ... with the non-family-friendly verbiage removed.

There's nothing I can add to it.
