Let us not forget we put 42 shots on net. Nothing was going through the brick wall named Musico today.

I won't say it wasn't embarrassing. But we did outplay them in for stretches, especially in the third. Just couldn't get the equalizer.

But how do you have 4 minutes of power play, 90 seconds of it 6-on-4, and not score?

True, it didn't help that the refs were scared to call anything Penn State during that stretch though (and the whole game for that matter). Although, most of the blame does not lie with the refs.

Hopefully Hamburg is ok though, if he isn't we'll be missing a forward and be playing an extra defenseman until Colavecchia comes back.

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2012-2013 - Locked, Loaded, And Ready To Roar <<<<<

How did that work out for ya?

Eating my words. Pathetic.

All our shots were high over the net. Passing was pretty sloppy, especially the complete whiff that resulted in the 2nd PSU goal. We did not have control of that game.

I do give credit to Musico who made some great saves when the puck was actually low enough to be on goal.

And I was FURIOUS when our guy (I'm not sure who) was put into headlock and pulled down backwards onto the ice. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!

Well, at least the fans did their part tonight.

Can't say I can remember exactly what it was like last year, but did it seem a bit dull tonight for 10k+? Maybe just because of lack of scoring?

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2012-2013 - Locked, Loaded, And Ready To Roar <<<<<

I have been following the Tigers for years now, and this a team that plays up or down with the opposing teams talent.

This!

And I second (or third ...) the sentiment about not showing up for the Brick City game ... very disappointing. It reminded me of a DIII game, on both sides.

It honestly reminded me of 7th grade gym class with those little orange plastic pucks you could launch sky high. It was driving me nuts.

There's so much blame in so many areas - on both sides - but in the end we lost. RoMo Thursday!

That's almost a dineededrect quote from a highly-placed RIT official after the game tonight .need.. with the non-family-friendly verbiage removed.

There's nothing I can add to it.
Sorry that our guys spoiled the party, but they needed that after Friday's debacle.

I thought the atmosphere was great and gave our fans an idea of what to expect next year.

That was lost in the first.... If we would have gotten a stick on one of them and poked it in the empty net, its a whole different game.

I think you're thinking of Smith, that was such an obvious call.

The ref that was behind the net got clipped in the face by a stick right before Smith was headlocked. It looked like he wasn't looking The back ref should have made the call.

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2012-2013 - Locked, Loaded, And Ready To Roar <<<<<

Not sure quite what to think about that game...

For some of the first, most of the second, and a stretch in the 3rd it felt like RIT had no energy and was just playing poorly. It seemed like Penn State was smothering us across the board. But then when you look at shots, you see that RIT outshot them 13-5 in the second.

RIT left a lot of chances on the ice. From pucks that went just wide, two that hit the post, and great number that sat unmolested in or around the crease infront of an open net while RIT either whiffed or failed to recognize them at all. On any given night, these could easily have spotted us a pretty good lead.

The 3rd was mostly controlled by us, but Penn State held on by the skin of their teeth there at the end. Probably should have been another penalty on the chokehold, but oh well.

I was particularly unimpressed by Watson, who gave up 3 soft goals including 2 that absolutely should not have happened (the first and second). I still don't know what to think of him overall, but if him and Ruby are going to continue to play like this I sure home Maclean is going to get a look by coach.

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2012-2013 - Locked, Loaded, And Ready To Roar <<<<<

Our defensive lapses seem to be magnified at the Blue Cross Arena, and opponents have an uncanny knack for capitalizing on them there. That place is not our friend. I'm beginning to hope for the AHA playoffs to go elsewhere.

After playing the way we did last night, it's probably good that we didn't pull off the win... or tie. It just wasn't deserved. We seem to have to go through this every year as sort of a "jelling" process as the team develops. There is no excuse for last night's loss though. However, I do feel that once our new team finds itself (hopefully sooner than later!) there's plenty of potential here for a great season.

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2012-2013 - Locked, Loaded, And Ready To Roar <<<<<

No excuse for not winning last night against Penn St. period.
We seem to have a lot of potential on the offensive side with the freshmen (and our carry-over players, hello Jeff Smith!), but the defensive side and goaltending are worrisome. We lost a ton of talent and experience in those areas due to graduation. Even with an improvement in our offense, it's going to be very difficult to compete against the overall very good goaltending in our conference unless our defense and goaltending improve significantly.
I don't want to seem like an alarmist because it is very early in the season, we have a ton of new players and we do (almost intentionally) go through an unsettling experimental and "jelling" period early in the season. Though it is disconcerting that we are seeing signs of issues that seemed to plague us the last two seasons like: "a lack of energy or urgency", "giving up easy goals on careless turnovers", etc... Here's hoping we see a different team come this Thursday when conference play starts and the games really count!

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2012-2013 - Locked, Loaded, And Ready To Roar <<<<<

I still feel crushed by this loss last night. As mentioned before, so many pucks it seemed were not on net - and it seemed like they were always at times when we had excellent scoring opportunities. Their goalie played well when he needed to, but at times it felt like I could have played goal - cause the shots simply weren't on goal.

I was a fan of Watson when he first showed up, but I'm starting to have big concerns - he seems to struggle to get from post to post, and I'm scared every time the opposing team wraps around behind the net. Then again, I had concerns about past goalies, and they developed into awesome netminders. I recorded the game last night on TWCSN so maybe when I finally get the courage to go back and watch it again, I'll feel differently about the game, but this is a game I felt we should have won, and won handily. I guess we now know how St. Lawrence felt back in 2005 when they lost to newcomer RIT despite 68 SOG.

That's underselling it a bit. It's the featured article on the front page today, and it shows some renderings we (or at least I) haven't seen before.

About those renderings, though...

Is it just me, or does this look a bit underwhelming? The seating seems shallow, and I'm worried about the acoustics of those rafters. On the outside, it looksl ike just another brick-and-glass RIT building; where's the attractive white entrance plaza we saw in earlier renderings?

Powers &8^]

I'm with you, it does look very underwhelming, compared to the original renderings. What happened to what looked like an upper deck of box seats?
These renderings make it look like a larger Ritter arena with seats instead of bleachers. It doesn't look anything like what I thought it would be; one of the best (and newest) college hockey arenas in the country! Hopefully, these aren't the real renderings.

RIT sent out four PDFs to the media. There's a larger scale rendering of the interior, two exterior renderings and a site plan. There's some better detail of the interior on the PDF because it's larger than these images.

I have them in a public Dropbox folder and will leave them up for a few days:

Thanks, Ed! I've got to say that I'm still underwhelmed though. I guess $30+ mill (or whatever the cost actually is) doesn't buy what it used to. Even the quality of the actual renderings leaves something to be desired - pretty generic looking.
Ed, do you know where the media will be located in the arena?

It's more like a 'Financial Reality'

From the D&C:
The new arena will cost about $37 million. Destler says the original estimate was $51 million, then $41 million. RIT has cut and trimmed the design to get it down to its current figure, which is still $7 million more than originally estimated.

Unless somebody were to come up with a 15 million dollar donation quickly, they won't be able to build what you saw in those early renderings.

The renderings are also a little mis-leading though.
Looking at the left side, the seating appears, to me any way, to be steep and will give some good sight lines while the image makes the right side seems flatter. I think that illusion is throwing people off.

Regarless, a new barn is going to be nice for the fans and the school.

Couple of passing thoughts on the weekend game......

Glad it was a OOC game and while it was a loss, it wasn't a beat down.
Glad to see another BCW game sold-out and the women take one this weekend.

Looking forward to confrerence play this Thursday as AHA teams need to "win it to be in it".
