RIT/Army incident

Re: RIT/Army incident

I've been to HFH both on Freakout weekends and other weekends. Honestly, the crowd is into the game regardless... then again, I'm always there when Clarkson is there and I know they don't like us much.

Ironically, the best rivalry that I've been to is the BC-BU series. I went to the BC-BU game last year at Conte Forum and watched the Terriers wipe the Eagles all over their home barn. Driving in with my dad, we saw BU students wearing BU jerseys standing in front of the sign that says Boston College giving the double-bird salute to the BC sign. Classless, but I don't see that as being anything too badly because it's not like they defaced the sign itself.

Inside the rink, though, there was nothing borderline homicidal. I think the worst chants were, naturally, The Chant for BU, which is now "Rough 'em up! Rough 'em up! BC SUCKS" after it strayed from this at the beginning of the 2000s. After that, it was actually pretty entertaining to watch the BC band play "Shipping Up To Boston," followed by BU chanting "We're from Boston!" and BC chanting back "You're not Boston!"

Hey, we could always get back to the Ivy League (ECAC) chants that I've heard. I heard a member of the Brown band stand on his chair at Meehan Auditorium and scream...across the rink...at Dov Groumet-Morris "YOU ARE A SUBPAR GOALIE!!! SUB!!!! PAR!!!!" as Cornell was winning 3-0 in the 2nd period. LOL :D Bear in mind Brown drew about 200 people and the rink echoed like a cavern.

Re: RIT/Army incident

Sounds familiar to everyone but Chris Lerch. :D

Lerch's point was that RPI acts as if the Big Red Freakout is something unique and special that nobody else does, not that it's wrong to do promotions. But have fun with your strawmen.

And yes, for the record, I am defending Lerch.

Wow. I'm impressed with the ability to accuse others of making a strawman argument after just finishing with one.

No one is claiming BRF is something nobody else does. Sounds to me like you and Lerch are puffing it up in your own minds.

At the very least, maybe you should both get over yourselves on the subject. It's really, really sad to have this argument every year, and it's always from RIT people, which is hilarious. Never seen anyone else have a problem with it. At this point it's just a poop-stir on Lerch's part.

Re: RIT/Army incident

I'll defer to you on this one since you are the message board's resident expert on poop-stirring.

I'm sorry, you must have me confused with someone else. Not that it's terribly surprising.

The butthurt here is just as humorous as the accusations. Fun for everyone associated with RPI.

Re: RIT/Army incident

I happen to love the BRF. It's a little different than other RPI home games. BRF is for RPI fans! I don't care what other people think about it. We are there, and we enjoy it. Are you jelous?
I think until you have been there, you don't know what you are talking about. Even if you have been there, you can't truely enjoy as much unless you are an RPI fan. GO RED :D
As far as the RIT/ Army game....having respect has never hurt anyone. That goes for both teams/fans.

Army Athletic Director Kevin Anderson issued a statement after the game, apologizing for the “behavior and language exhibited by the RIT players, coaches and staff.” Anderson was actually a participant in the fracas, according to B2 and ITT Knight Vision broadcaster Cody Crusciel.

“Somebody coming off the Army bench … hoping that’s not who I think it is,” said Crusciel during his broadcast of the post game festivities. “That was Kevin Anderson coming off the Army bench, right in the face of RIT coach Wayne Wilson."

wow...i don't even know what to say.

Re: RIT/Army incident

Perhaps Anderson was trying to save his job (or at least some image)? Given there's video and commentary making him look "not so good", he's probably in very hot water at West Point right now.

I have absolutely no inside information, but I wouldn't be at all surprised to see some sort of formal apology from Army to RIT before too long (for the crazy letter only).

Anderson got Army football some games at Yankee Stadium plus a big home and home versus Oklahoma down the road. That triumphs any missteps he could make in other sports, so I think it's an image thing more than a job security issue.

Wow, an apology for the apology?

Re: RIT/Army incident

Just to clarify: the video of the incident is unclear, but the audio is. The camera is focused on the fight between Smith and Ikkala during the time that Anderson was, according to the Army broadcaster, in Wilson's face. It does pan to the bench area eventually but I can't make much out - there is someone being escorted back to the Army bench, very upset and yelling, but I can't make out who it is. I can't even make out the race of the person in question - too blurry and far away. I am relying on the broadcaster's description of what happened, not the video.

The video also doesn't show the elbow that started the whole thing - it was focused on the scrum in the far corner that also happened at the final buzzer.

It does show Army fans standing and yelling at the RIT players, who are tapping their sticks on the ice and waving back. Didn't see any middle fingers, but it's not to say that didn't happen. A few RIT players are definitely responding to the crowd.

I think this was compounded by the fact that it was "Skate with the Knights" night, so there were even more kids than usual there, and probably some parents not used to college hockey.
