Yes, the word on the street is that some fundraising will begin this summer.

Am I the only one who thinks that one of those "Buy a Brick" type fundraisers would be absolute genius? You know the type, donate $XXX and get your name on one of the bricks used to build the thing / on the walkway into the place.

Bricks being a bit of an RIT Icon to begin with, I could definitely see something like that take off.

RIT has a donation program like that already, you can get your name on a brick on the quarter mile near the SLC...it doesn't seem to be bringing in lots of money...

Yeah, but a new rink >>>>>>> quarter mile.

I don't think the construction even slowed down this winter!!;)

To be fair, the winter hasn't slowed down either, what with the snow in May and all.

Also, slow news day or are we really hitting more of the big time here? The fact that Wilson signed a contract is front page USCHO news, complete with a picture? Wow.

Probably a little of both. I think that sort of thing wil definately prevent meaningless speculation. There isn't a lot of news during the off-season. A Frozen Four coach signs an extension - might as well put it up there.

Yeah, but a new rink >>>>>>> quarter mile.

Quoted for truth.

A brick at the SLC feels like an insult. Thank you no. But if we're talking a new rink... where people actually GO... well now we're talking.

I think you're seeing the glass as "half empty" here. Try to remember March. No snow at all, some days close to 80-deg., golf courses open and dry, plants out about a month early (e.g., my lilacs have been gone for about a week+!). Winter left long ago and then just threw back a couple of brief reminders. I've seen the snow piles in parking lots last well into May before!

On the sell-a-brick for the rink idea, I've also thought it might be a good thing, but those always seem to fall short. I was thinking "sell-a-seat" inside the arena might work (I think they tried that in the field house, but again rink >>> fieldhouse ;) ) ... especially if the price was hefty and came with something like life-time (or 10-year) season tickets to that seat.

DON'T give them any ideas!;) Next thing you know we'll have to plunk down a few grand for a Personal Seat License, like all the NFL teams with new arenas are demanding of their loyal season ticket holders ($16,000 for a PSL to the Jets' new stadium - ridiculous).

You mean the Giants' new stadium, which the Jets are going to sublet again? ;)

True, I tend to have a short memory when it comes to weather, that's why around mid-May I usually start to think that Rochester weather is always beautiful. I actually would have preferred the norm to having to deal with a Lilac Fest where 70% of the trees have dropped their blooms by the first weekend.

At least this time, they won't be playing in a stadium with another NFL team's name on it.
The funny thing is that the Giants have apparently sold out all of their PSL's while the Jets still have some 17,000 left (at least according to ch 8 News).

Yeah, usually they spend April and early May praying the Lilac bushes bloom in time for the festival. This year they were bloomed, wilted, and gone by the time it started. Of course that snow you mentioned didn't help keep them in bloom either.

Yes, we should do that! I would buy several. And I don't even have money to donate lol.

Hey! Obviously you haven't been to the SLC very often. Plenty of people go there. I bet way more people use it than the rink. But anyways...I would much rather have a rink than the SLC.

That would work...I'll take lifetime season tickets to a seat for $100. :D

Even if it was $10,000 for lifetime season tickets for a seat all the seats would be sold out forever. :(

Considering the Jets are funding half the stadium, I don't think so!

My wife read an interesting article the other day. Apparently, the Jets owner, Woody Johnson, really pushed for a lot of the luxury type stuff for the stadium with a lot more luxury boxes, while the Giants wanted a more basic, down to earth approach. (It apparently caused the relationships between the two owners to be strained.)

So, if you're a Giants fan and really like all the niceties of the new stadium, you can thank the Jets for that! Irony is a b*tch... :D

Not that they would do it, but it would have to be some limited time like 10 or 20 years. Also, if it did sell out that way ... say 4000 seats times $10K per is $40 million and pretty much builds the place. I really don't think that many people would put up $10K, but what if they could sell 2000 seats for that price and have 2-3K other seats for sale every week????

The problem would be what I witnessed on the first RIT trip to Clarkson. Lots of season-ticket holders didn't go to the game and the middle section seats were all empty while the ends were packed ... kind of strange.

I am in Ritter for graduation ceremonies. There are two nice new banners hanging (under the Army banner on the west side). There is one that says "Atlantic Hockey 2009-2010 League Champions 22-5-1", and the other says "Atlantic Hockey 2010 Playoff Champions" ...But the two other regular season champion banners are missing, as is anything saying Frozen Four!! Maybe we will have a banner raising at the first home game for a Frozen Four banner?

Here is a crappy cell phone picture

You're right... pretty crappy :p :)

But seriously, I wonder if another banner does go up whether it will say Frozen Four or if it will say NCAA East Regional Champions? Just cause RIT has historically not raised banners for anything but championships...unlike some of our biggest D-III rivals... *cough*EC*cough*. I am surprised that the regular season banners are down. I can't imagine they won't go back up at some point before next season begins.

I would much prefer a NCAA East Regional Champions banner to an NCAA FF participant banner. Those participant banners are pathetic. It like saying the program is "pretty good" instead of saying it's "excellent" or the "best".

I agree. The AHA Tournament Champions banner is the equivalent of a NCAA participation banner and an NCAA East Regional Champions banner is the equivalent of a FF participation banner. It just seems better to stick with the ones that say champions.

That said, is there really such a thing as "East Regional Champions". They seem to make a big thing out of that in basketball, but there was no fanfare for hockey (e.g., trophy, etc.). Even if it's not something official, I think those in the know understand and for those not in the know it doesn't matter.

I have no idea. I just liked the sound of it.:)
