Also remember just because someone is a big playmaker or scorer doesn't mean he is going to be a Captain. Plenty of guys in College and the NHL who are examples of that...

That's not at all why I thought he'd make Captain. More his work ethic on the ice. Maybe he's not a big leader off the ice; I don't know about that. But on the ice, he brings an energy that others would do well to imitate. =)

He's also very much a class act off the ice.

Maybe Burt doesn't want to be a Captain, I don't know plenty of reasons out there, but my point was that I wouldn't hit the panic button and worry, its the off season, go fishing, golfing, or go watch a baseball game!

You do realize the whole purpose of the off-season is to speculate and spread rumors? :D

I pretty much only do this while I'm on break / lunch at work or after I'm done doing my homework while listening to NHL playoff game streams on the internet at night. It's addicting for some unknown reason, but when I have the chance to go outside, I certainly prefer that to sitting in here.

I heard he got signed by the Red Wings and is going to make his debut tonight in San Jose.

I heard that the fundraising campaign for a new arena is going to begin this summer (not sure if that will be a public campaign or an initial "quiet phase").

Anyone seen any draft plans, or have any ideas on the site (as in, where on campus)?

I have not, but there are 2 possible areas. First would be next to the practice fields across the street from D Lot, or 2nd, the grass area between the baseball field and the Fieldhouse. The most likeliest place I would suspect would be the first possible area as there is more space to work with.

I agree, the 2nd place is used for shot put/discus/javelin during track season, plus it seems like if you put it there it would be crammed in to a small space. I think the practice fields would make the most sense.

Maybe they could put them on the old rugby fields? Although that would probably be too far away from the other athletics stuff. Also a suggestion I heard was to put it where D-Lot is and build on the stadium creating the hockey arena and stadium for the track/soccer field into one building. If they did that they would most likely need to making a parking garage or put some more parking across the street.

I think they should put it in the middle of the main entrance loop though...that would be pretty sweet.

I know it may not be a very "Green" idea, but what about all the unused wooded area between Park Point and the main campus, or on the South end of the campus (backing up to Bailey Road)? As to the loss of more trees, well, it is Henrietta after all. How long were those trees destined to remain anyhow?;)

The park point area will not work most likely...remember, to build Park Point, they had to 'relocate' the wetlands they were disturbing. I don't think anyone would be happy with them destroying more. On Miller Road (the road that connects campus to Bailey Rd which usually had the fire gates closed), there is currently staging areas for the construction on campus. This could be a viable area, but they would need to add parking. I was thinking about just south of the turf field to keep the athletic facilities close. there is U lot for parking, but there may be wetland issues there too.

A while back I heard RIT was considering a spot just south of U lot.

Any where on campus would be great. As long as they add more parking. The Ritter has outgrown D lot.

That's true, but it became distinctly more noticeable once the Field House was built. When there isn't an event going on over there, D lot doesn't fill up quite as quickly.

I'm no civil or agricultural engineer, but how in the world does one "relocate" wetlands? Sounds like quite a project.

Of course, I'm guessing a large portion of the campus may be on former wetlands being where it is. I wonder if they went to the effort to relocate stuff like that back in the 60's or if they just filled it in and started construction.

Oh, come now Tom, how hard is it to correct me once per season? It's not like it happens every day.:)

One creates new wetland in another area and promises not to develop on it. =)

And yes, the whole campus was built on a swamp. That's reportedly one reason why the main axis of the campus is built up over a tunnel system.

Yeah takes the most sophisticated Egyptian technology. Its called irrigation, they invented it about 5000BC or 7,010 years ago.

COME ON GUYS! Even Elmira Farmers know that one :D
