Who's going to Niagara? And Niagara sucks at attracting people to the arena. Do you think I could just drive there and buy the ticket as a walk up and be safe?

Good weekend in Manitoba for Tanev, with a goal and 2 assists against the Amerks. Check the link below and the Nov 13 game highlights. 1:40 into the video is his first AHL goal. A nice breakaway feed from Tony Hodgson, then a backhand forehand deke for the goal. Got #2 star that night.

Re: RIT 2010-11: What do Tigers dream of?

Tigers pick up another recruit, this time not from the BCHL but the Streetsville Derbies of the OJHL.

Stuart Brownell - D - 6'4" 185lbs - DOB 5/9/1992

2010/2011 Streetsville games: 25 goals:4 assists:11 Pts:15 PIM:42
2009/2010 Streetsville games: 48 goals:2 assists:14 Pts:16 PIM:66

In 2009/2010 he was a +13. This year, that's a stat the OJHL isn't tracking.

Given his age, I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up playing another year or 2 of Juniors before coming to Rochester.

1992? Wow, I'm getting old.

I will be at Niagara, and then back here in Roch Saturday afternoon for the Women vs. Pottsdam. I wouldn't worry about getting a ticket at the door, I've never seen Niagara sell out a game. Of course my luck they will lol Maybe someone more in the know here can tell us if we can buy tickets in advance online?

Re: RIT 2010-11: What do Tigers dream of?

Why the heck did Tanev have to leave =(...

I would imagine the $270,000 signing bonus might have had something to do with it.

Would have been great to watch him for another year or two though......

Re: RIT 2010-11: What do Tigers dream of?

I would rather see 4000-4500 with room for expansion. Think about how dead the arena will seem if it hold 6000 and we only put 2100 in it.

Depends on how it's designed.

We've been selling out day-before this year anyway. There are a lot of people who used to get tickets at the door.

I'd think we could be drawing 3000 regularly now. The question is, how fast do we grow?

The school seems to be more committed to it now than ever. Maybe we'll even begin to see more than a whiteboard on the quarter mile advertising the game.

You make a good point. Destler said in the press conference that they would make sure that the arena could be expanded in the future to accommodate growing crowds. Also, I think you're right-on about the need for more advertising. After the new rink is built, it would be wise for RIT to buy some TV and radio spots to advertise games (heck, they could even start now if they haven't already).

I'm glad that Destler seems to be embracing hockey since I know he's a big basketball fan. In my opinion, he's been moving RIT in the right direction ever since Simone retired. Kudos to Destler and to his wife who I know does a lot around campus and gets little recognition.

Honestly, Destler's goal is to eventually move us to full D1. Obviously it isn't possible yet, but I could see it happening in 5-10 years. I would expect a football team for a while however.

6'4" 185# Defensemen. If he can fill out that frame a little more and has decent skating ability, I would say this is some of the dividends of a FF run.

I started an event thing on facebook for going to the game, it looks like there is about 20 of us that are going. We havent ordered tickets yet though. They can be ordered online through email, or by phone.

I agree. I think RIT would have a very hard time selling out most games in a 6000 seat arena. It would be cavernous with only 2500 or so in it. Start with a 4000 seat arena with a plan for expansion in the future.

Re: RIT 2010-11: What do Tigers dream of?

You're not that old since I can remember that and I am still young! :)

Nah. I am old.
I remember the early/earlier days of the Corner Crew sitting on the South side of the rink screaming our heads off and then playing euchre between periods...

i am not that old, but i remember back when there were occasional midweek games. feels like a long time ago. the crew would always switch sides to follow/harass the opposing goalie during the 2nd period. (maybe that is what you meant by south side?) that was back in my freshman year of 04/05, though i think i remember it once in 05/06 as well.

Depends upon what you mean by the south side CC. If you mean by the womens bathroom, then I remember those days too.

While it may be his goal - I would be shocked if he can get it done in 5-10 years. With a new arena to build and run and the Women's hockey team going DI once the moratorium is lifted, there won't be a lot extra funds to move up the rest of the sports.
