RIT 2010-11: What do Tigers dream of?

Re: RIT 2010-11: What do Tigers dream of?

The most recent speculation I heard was between U Lot and Gracies, but there are a number of other places it could go. There's a lot of space south of Wiltsie Drive off John Street, north of Ward Road, and between Lomb Drive and Loewenthal Road. And if worse comes to worst, I believe RIT owns land extending south almost to Bailey Road, which has enough room for dozens of ice rinks. =)

Most of those places, and in fact most of the un-developed campus is actually untouchable. When Park Point was put in, wetlands had to be "relocated" to part of the corn fields just west of John St between the lower loop and Bailey. Most of the wooded campus is protected like that.

I say take out the rest of Riverhole and put it there! ;)

Not that that solves the housing crisis...

I would love to be able to sit where I once lived and watch some hockey. The problem with Riverknoll is that it's kind of ...knowly... Building that foundation would be a pain, not that I have any real knowledge of such things. I've always thought the field in the middle of that weird loop in the campus entrence would make a nice place. Of course with my luck they'll probably propose tearing down the Red Barn, which would be an unforgivable offence.

Well, isn't there technically enough room between Ritter and Fieldhouse to house a ice rink? Remove the road and bridge, connect the ticket concourse on the Fieldhouse with the new rink, and make it a single building from the Fieldhouse to the Ritter?

Or is that space just too small? If they stack the seats into two levels, I think its doable.

Just in: the donor is Steve Schultz, co-founder of the Corner Crew and Computer Science House, and his wife Vicky.

Mary-Beth Cooper says the fan experience is paramount. The arena will have more seating, amenities like club seating, more comfortable seating, enhanced audio and visual, better food and concessions. A web site will ask fans what they want in a new arena.

Ms. Cooper also made it clear that the women's team will be brought up to D-I as soon as they are permitted to.

Destler says no site has been settled upon yet.

Build it on top of D lot and put a 1 or 2 level garage below it. Some additional cost for the garage but it would be central to the main entrance and on-campus housing. Win \ Win

The Tiger Power Play campaign web site is here: http://www.rit.edu/development/giving/powerplay/

There seems to be an emphasis on having a "tournament-ready" arena. Could a new in-season "RIT Tournament" be in the works, or is that just to illustrate how far below current standards the Ritter is?

Well given that the AHA tournament is settling into it's somewhat permanent home of Rochester, but they don't fill enough seats in the Blue Cross to justify a 8,000-10,556 seat arena rental, maybe there might be some thought of moving that tournament to the new "Corner Crew Rink at the Frank Ritter Arena"

Man, I'm full of idle speculation this week.

ETA: Duh, they want to be able to host outside tournaments, like Section V and other youth hockey to bring in revenue.

So if you go to www.ritathletics.com you're presented with a full page ad for the tiger power play.

Problem is the link is broken. Tries to send you to http://www.ritathletics.com/rit.edu/powerplay instead of www.rit.edu/powerplay.

C'mon guys... we're a tech school aren't we?

Looks like the page is sitting on a DEV server and they haven't moved it over to production yet......

This was my guess as it was probably the worst kept secret among us old-timers. :)

Re: RIT 2010-11: What do Tigers dream of?

I just pray that they do this new arena right. It better be cozy like the Ritter is now, because that's the atmosphere that makes playing here so awesome.

If it's anything less than a 21st century iteration of this arena then I'm not sure I'll be pleased.

Re: RIT 2010-11: What do Tigers dream of?

On to tonight's game, does Ropponen starting last weekend and tonight put him as the squad's "1A"?

I liked his game tonight. Great quickness. Also, the Ritter is quickly becoming Adam Mitchell's favorite rink. 3 goals in 2 games there now. Real strong performance against an improved UConn team tonight for the team.
