Riots and Racists and Looting...OH MY!!!

Re: Riots and Racists and Looting...OH MY!!!

I wonder if a woman posted here and talked about their fear of walking home alone when it's dark, would Gurth and some of the others claim she obviously had to be doing something wrong because it doesn't align with their experiences as a male...?

I wonder if you'd acknowledge if her fear was justified or if you'd call her a man-hater or a racist and say that it's unfair that she judges due to bias.

Talk about irony...

Re: Riots and Racists and Looting...OH MY!!!

you're way off in defining our aims. As far as I know, TheDarkness hasn't even posted in this thread. We're just paternalistically lecturing each other here. ;)

Reminiscent of this.

But we'll always have that wonderful moment: spoiled, white slightly-less-good college boy plays the "on behalf of just plain folks" card using the collateral of lower SAT scores. Tosca out! :p

Trixie, you're not actually... you should just... oh never mind.

.....uhhhh, I think your reading comprehension is messed up again.

What did you expect? Hate Radio has taught an entire generation of its listeners that the rapist is the real victim. "Contempt for everything discriminated against or weak." It's right outta the handbook.

Not much. Obviously we live in a just world and the just world theorem models reality. Anyone who's been profiled, raped, killed did something wrong and deserved what happened to them. We should never listen to the marginalized group because it doesn't match our completely different experiences.

Re: Riots and Racists and Looting...OH MY!!!

Woosh?

Should be pretty clear, but a woman is VERY justified in being cautious walking alone after dark.

Biases based on human experience should be heeded where appropriate.

Her biases are no more valid than many others'. That was the point.

Or before you screw up the comprehension of that, others' biases can be equally valid, even if they make some of you spot your underwear out of white guilt.

Lol

There's that broad brush again.

And you wonder why the rest of the middle of this country doesn't flock to your banner.

No... wait... you know. Low SAT scores.

Awesome. :D

Women have less muscle and ability to defend themselves, of course they're justified in being cautious. If I had to guess there's an evolutionary reason for that fear. There's no evolutionary reason for being afraid of African Americans.

On that note...

I have other things to do.

Lol

If injustice is systemic then my privilege has a non-zero probability of being unearned.
I deem my privilege 100% earned.
Therefore, injustice is not systemic.

Didn't Jimmy the Greek learn you that blacks are more athletic since the mastah bred them to be stronger & have bigger muscles?!?

Re: Riots and Racists and Looting...OH MY!!!

Depending where you live, everyone should be cautious when walking alone at night...

Men have more muscle and ability to defend themselves, so if they are cautious when walking alone at night anywhere other than white neighborhoods, they are racists.

Re: Riots and Racists and Looting...OH MY!!!

Still completely missing the point.

And yeah MNS, people should be aware of their surroundings I'm certainly my debating that.

It seems to me that one of the main reasons that race relations in the US are where they are today is a direct result of the murder of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. He had a genius for taking an uncompromising moral clarity and expressing it in such a way that people could easily understand it, were forced to agree with it, and were inspired to help him turn his dream into reality.

I am convinced that at the early stages of affirmative action, he would have stood athwart it, raised both hands, and shouted “no, no, no, no, NO! You are doing it WRONG!”

The syllogism of affirmative action as it was implemented goes as follows:
a) Black people are not performing up to academic standards
b) We want black people to perform up to standards
c) Therefore, we will lower the standards so that more black people can meet them.

Dr. King would have railed against that logic and insisted upon the following instead:
a) Black people are not performing up to academic standards
b) We want black people to perform up to standards
c) Therefore, we will embark upon whatever remedial education and training is necessary until black people can meet these standards just as well as anyone else.

His unique genius and powers of persuasion would have forced people to agree with the latter formulation and reject the former. Our country would be very different today as a result

(transparently self-serving silliness omitted)

It is also worth remembering King was demonized by the same sort of people who now concern troll the black community.

Carry on.
