Riots and Racists and Looting...OH MY!!!

Re: Riots and Racists and Looting...OH MY!!!

No good can come from the categorical vilification of our own law enforcers. Think about it. What happened after the liberal half of Twitter erupted in profane glee when those NYC cops were killed? At least four more attempted copycat shootings that I know of (and I haven't even been looking for news this week). Even if these things are said to try to score some kind of drama points, they encourage all the wrong kinds of responses. Let's dial down the hatred.

What about the 2nd Amendment remedy?

No good can come from the categorical vilification of one race of people. Think about it. What happened after the conservative half of Twitter erupted in profane glee when all those black kids kept on getting killed by cops almost every day? More black kids kept on getting killed by cops almost every day that I know of (and I haven't even been looking for news this week). Even if these things are said to try and score some kind of drama points, they encourage all the wrong kinds of responses. Let's dial down the hatred.

Re: Riots and Racists and Looting...OH MY!!!

Could someone make a list of which local, state and federal officials can be threatened vs those who can?

Apparently it is wrong to threaten city police officers, but it is OK to threaten the President, Congress, Secret Service, Capitol Police, ATF, BLM, state police and local sheriffs. I am sure I am missing some and would appreciate some clarity. For example, which governors, state legislators and mayors are on which list? Are we allowed to threaten Scott Walker? Bill DiBlasio? Mark Dayton? Is there a formula that determines who can and can't be threatened?

Making the ridiculous (and untrue) claim, twice, that black kids are gunned down by cops "almost every day" is a blood libel. You must be confused and thinking instead of the black kids who are gunned down by other black kids almost every day. And the reflex to refer to any disagreement with liberal cant as "hate" really has lost whatever power it once had to persuade.

I apologize profusely. I shouldn't have said kids. That's a terrible mistake, and what I said was way worse than a black person getting killed by a white cop once every 3.88 days on average over the past 7 years. Unless every 3-4 days isn't close enough to almost everyday for you?

Re: Riots and Racists and Looting...OH MY!!!

The hyperbole here today is.....well, hyperbolic

So Priceless decided to up the ante....

Take it with a grain of salt. The Post is for people whose reading skills aren't up to the level of The Daily News. :p

Re: Riots and Racists and Looting...OH MY!!!

Are you currently under the care of a physician?

I may have exaggerated a tad bit when I said "half." But we've all seen the horrible compilations of comments from the liberal rank and file about giving pigs wings etc. Seriously, even if you're (not you, but anyone) an outright anarchist at heart, what good can it possibly do? It's not going to ease tensions to make death threats. How about prosecuting the cops who actually break the law instead of shooting the ones who are trying to do right? I admit it's personal to me, I have a nephew and brother-in-law who are currently cops.
I understand it's exciting and feels empowering - a friend of mine was in Seattle in '99 and STILL talks about what a rush it was to be able to break stuff and throw rocks and whatnot... but what benefit do you expect to see? Every outcome is bad.

If any of this has actually happened in the last century, I agree whole-heartedly. It's the same kind of categorical hate that is now doing so much damage today in the opposite direction.

Actually, I haven't, and I am pretty well-read in those circles, but I'll take your word for it that there are idiot bomb throwers out there who said moronic things like that. I abjure them unconditionally, and I am confident that so do 99.99% of my fellow liberals.

I would add: OBVIOUSLY.

I fear for the Republic that somebody who seems pretty open minded and intelligent holds such a warped notion of what liberals believe and desire. And I know I can't just chalk it up to Fox programming or whatever because, again, you pretty obviously see through all their BS. So I guess I can only state it as clearly as possible:

We believe there should be independent reviews whenever a death occurs and that due process is sacrosanct.

We believe being suspected of criminal activity by the police does not amount to any diminution of rights beyond what is constituted by the letter of the law.

We believe police are human beings, and therefore that absent constant vigilance power corrupts them just as it would anybody else.

I would hazard a guess that any such compilations are to liberals as the "second amendment solution" compilations are to conservatives.

I don't see why you'd ascribe one to the mainstream (or even anything closer to mainstream than nutjobs) unless you believe the other is also mainstream.

Re: Riots and Racists and Looting...OH MY!!!

Fair is fair. If a few crackpots on the left indict ALL Liberals, then a few crackpots on the right indict ALL Conservatives. Deal?

Yes. Peace and love, brother.

Yes. You're absolutely right.

THIS attitude is the problem. People are individuals. If you gin up hatred against whole groups of people based on their color, orientation, or (legal) occupation, there will be bad consequences. I don't see how it can ever lead to good things.
