Re: Rep Retirement Lodge: What are you looking forward to in the offseason?

Lovely. I just got a donation call from someone that just went like this:

"Hello. Is [Hammer] there?"

"Who the * is this?"

"Sorry. This is intended for both of you.....*he blathers on until I hung up* "

[Hammer's note here: Are you ****ing kidding me?!?!?!]

After his comment I should have told him the two of us (apparently there's two of us here in his alternate universe, even though I answered my own phone) were busy butt-****ing on the couch. Where's my shovel?

caller id allows me to let these continue to ring... however, sometimes i pick up and say, "sorry, they can't take this call -- my dick is in their mouth"

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge: What are you looking forward to in the offseason?

I told one guy from Dish Network that I was watching porn. That got him off the phone in a hurry.

Story #2 from tonight.

I'm leaving the grocery store. There is a girl in our neighborhood that is, well, ugly. That is an understatement. However, she has these YOOOGE tits. Given the rest of her, it's like having high-beams on a tricycle. Every time I see this girl I cannot help but look at those. Got busted for looking today as she was coming in the store when I was on the way out.

It wasn't as bad as getting caught looking at one of our clients' new wife, who had just got a $10K boob job (and he lit his money on fire there, too. He might as well have gone and put rims on a '79 Pontiac Sunbird), but pretty blatant.

Whoever invented Temple Run for iPhone needs to be slapped in the face. That is all.

Alright. So I continuously find myself questioning my choice of Civil Engineering and I'm stressing out about it. I've had my heart set on it since my freshman year in high school. I took the engineering courses there, and was well prepared to further my education in college. I've enjoyed the classes to an extent here, but I find myself less and less enthused about it. I also worry about the workload and how it will affect me in the future, as most engineers work six days a week, anywhere from 60-80 hours. One of my very best friends, for example, his father is a professional engineer and he was never really there for him growing up.

I want to be that dad who will be at my son or daughter's events, etc, and not have to put work ahead of my family. I've briefly looked into other careers, but at the same time, jobs are more scarce there, and the pay is much less, etc. I'm struggling greatly with this as I register for fall classes. I don't have any time to waste if I'm sticking with engineering, as the education plan is very narrowed and strict. Also, the longer I wait, if I were to switch majors, I'm taking classes that basically are just a waste of money, which of course is a big deal as well.

EDIT: In addition, coaching hockey the past 18 months as shown me how passionate I am about helping the kids improve on the ice, and more importantly off it. As an engineer I wouldn't have an opportunity to help out with this, or have the kind of flexibility required to do any kind of coaching. As I continue to coach, I feel like I continue to learn how important it is for me, and how amazing it would be to continue to have an impact on the kids.

I guess if anyone has any advice, as many of you may have been through this, most of you have differing careers, etc, I'd appreciate it. Whether it be here or by email.

Thanks for taking the time to read.

Off to bed..zzzzzzz

and mookie. 75 today. Even on the back side, 7 pars, a bird and a bog. Much more consistent, game is finally coming back.:)

My cousin is a civil engineer and manages to work 20 hours a week and raise her two kids w her husband... I'm sure it's doable... Depends on your options

Morning Lodge.

Uh, so much variability in work hours in this field. Engineering can get you into civil service jobs where you work a set 40 hr/wk or you can be in a small consulting firm and put in 80 hrs. Many ways to go with it. If Kato has a decent engineering school they should have some sort of mentor program available so you could talk to a working engineer in your field to discuss these kinds of things. Also can depend on what kind of civil you are looking at. Are you thinking sanitary, traffic, structural, or what? Feel free to e-mail me and I can put you in touch with some CEs to discuss it.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge: What are you looking forward to in the offseason?

Apparently I have taught myself how to outsmart my alarm on my phone, and could dismiss it (not snooze) and fall back asleep the past 2 mornings. My punishment? Found an app in the app store that makes me solve math problems to snooze, and can only snooze a maximum of five 3 minute rotations. Bad HP1015, bad!

Are we just talking simple arithmetic, or does it make you solve a partial differential equation?

How long until you download an app that solves the math problem for you?

Can you set the degree of difficulty?

Yes, I put it on the second lowest degree of difficulty, so I'm guessing it will just be a slightly more difficult addition or subtraction problem. Almington, I've already got a calculator on my phone, no need for more apps ;)

I already hated my alarm clock, I may end up throwing my phone across the bunk room now.
