Re: Rep retirement lodge CC - greetings from heathrow

Good morning Lodge.

Half day for me. We're getting lunch and and the afternoon off with pay for everyone that was on the software implementation team, as a "thank you".

I also get the 3rd & 4th off. Hubby isn't so lucky. Not only does he work the 3rd. He has the off hours phone that week. So, once he gets home he still has to answer work calls if there are any, all night, and on the 4th. I'm hoping he at least gets double pay for that.

That could turn him into a serial killer. ;)

I'd take Monday, but we're a global company, so Tuesday is all the US employees get. I suspect not much will be getting done Monday regardless.

mookie will be taking off this coming sunday, monday, and tuesday to celebrate The Eid. even though he will be a 12hr flight away from the office :)

Good Evening Lodge!

Went to the beach today- last day before the kids are out of school. Walked the length of the beach and back 1 3/4h . Beautiful day. Also confirmed no need to feel any shame for my body. The number of very large people wearing small amounts of cloth. Also there are a number of the same people tattooed over large parts of their body. Certainly a change from when I was young.

tell us all about the ancient times. ;) :p

:p when you wore French Cut bathing suits that went up to the waist but only if you had a body like Twiggy. No 2 pieces unless you were a twig and tattoos were what the gals who were hookers had and men who were low class or had been jailed.

What about the sailors? Don't forget about your seamen!

We put an offer on a (town)house today. I want to vomit (I'm so anxious)

Take a deep breath. Think of all the idiots that own their own homes. You're well ahead of those knuckleheads, so you should be fine.

The housing market here is white-hot. There was a home 4 houses up the street that went up for sale a couple weeks ago at a price that I thought was well above what I thought it was worth. I came home yesterday to see a "SOLD" sign in the front yard. I mean, I'm glad they got it sold, but the way this is going is making me wonder.

The housing market is insane here, as LWB can attest to. Seller's market for sure.

That being said, yes, take a deep breath. Hell, I was wiggin' out when I was searching for a new vehicle. You're getting a house.

It's like that here too. The house we put an offer on has been on the market for 2 days. We saw it on Wednesday and we put an offer in tonight. Our agent is hopeful, but said there will likely be 2 or 3 more offers by Saturday afternoon. The pricing is so insane in Massachusetts and New Hampshire that stuff that is reasonable is literally off the market in 2-3 days.

I think some of the nerves are just "holy crap we're buying a house!" nerves. I never thought I'd be able to own a home tha ks to student debt. (I also never thought I'd get married and tcbg bore witness to a level of crazy/nerves that made me sure I'd found the right one.)

To be honest, after meeting both of you in Denver...the thought was in my mind. Some things are just that obvious to outsiders. ;) You guys are a great couple, btw.

It's all Scarlet's fault. :p

I'm not in a good mood Ralph, so I'm taking it out on a few parts of the country.:p

Anyhoo, Happy Friday Lodge. It's like a morgue here today. Probably should've worked from home but there are a few things I need to do. Will probably head out around 1:30 or so.

Holding off my congrats, 'ewe, till you know for sure. Hope it works out for you guys!! I'm slowly getting my place into some kind of shape that will be ready to sell should I want to move. It's insane how much places are going for. There were two units in my building going for $499K. Seriously, that's pretty much a half million. Once of them is on the first place and kind of dumpy, the other is nicer. I want to see how much they both sold for so I have a baseline for my place.

At least you didn't give us the fire ants. :D (See the tweet which I posted on the Hurricane thread.)

Once we started looking last year, we knew that living in Massachusetts was out for us. You can't even get a crappy house (the kind to tear down and use the land) for under 300K. With rent over $2000/2 bdr just over the border in MA, renting was out as well. We didn't want to live in Nashua because of the many crappy neighborhoods and potential low resale. We put an offer in on a place right down the street from where we are now. We love the neighborhood and they are continuing to add improvements. Doesn't help with our commute, but our rent is going up again in September by 50$ (It has gone up $340 since we moved in Sept 2013). I figure that I won't be ready to advance to another hospital for at least 7-10 years (there is a lot to learn at my current place). When that time comes, we hope to have a larger down payment and we can better decide where we want to live. In the meantime, this potential place is beautiful. If it doesn't work out, we'll just keep looking, at least we're more familiar with the process.

We're not really telling family until we have a better idea. The seller signed the agreement, so we're doing an inspection next week (as soon as I get it scheduled). I figure we'll just do one step at a time and once we're sure that it's ours we'll tell family (they know we are thinking of putting an offer in).

I hope it stays that way. We'll be looking to put ours up in about a year, give or take. We've found... problems... that need to be addressed before we can even think about putting it up for sale.
