Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 95: A USCHO Retrospective

That's the parent in me... ;)

I've said those same words to my freshman daughter.
That always does the trick. My parents didn't get mad, they just told me they were really disappointed in me. I just love how we get grades right before the holidays, because then my whole family told me they were disappointed, grandparents and aunts.. not fun. :(

If you want to waste that tuition money, you can send it to me. I'll put it to better use. If you're in scholarship, then maybe you should think about the poor kid(s) that aren't getting the chance to attend college because money was given to you.

How was that?? I'm not a parent, so I don't know how to do the disappoinment thing.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 95: A USCHO Retrospective

It's possible that I am. You do have a point though. One of the biggest dunces of my graduating class got into NMU, however, he was on ac pro initially, and it appears as if he's now been kicked out, though he's appealing. Idk, by the end of this semester, if I do what I'm capable of, I could have a 2.6, a 3.2 by the end of the summer. As long as I get my priorities straight, I should be okay.

I really do give NMU credit for their "right to try" stance. You never know who will end up finding their stride and doing really well. I had a friend of mine that came in on academic probation, but wound up finding something he truly loved and was good at (psychology), and wound up coming back and getting his masters. Last I heard, he was working as a counselor in VA and doing really well. It's sad that stories like that more often than not get hidden behind the myriad of others that involve failing out.
It also slights others of us who came in as good students and continued to do well, but got our reputations stained by these types. :(

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 95: A USCHO Retrospective

I was an academic casualty at tUMD, went back to school as an adult and earned my AA, BS, & MA degrees. Maturity is a wonderful thing - or so I've heard. :)

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 95: A USCHO Retrospective

Now I'm really disappointed in you, no partying and you're still on AC Pro, their's just no excuse for that
Oh, don't get me wrong, I partied, it just wasn't why I did poorly :p

Scarlet, that was really good!

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 95: A USCHO Retrospective

I wonder what kind of grades I could have gotten at Tech if I tried, worked hard and cut out the shenanigans that I undertook my last 2 years there...

I still haven't checked my grades from last semester yet, and I'm not sure if I will any time soon.

I did that a few times. In fact, there were two semesters that I did not find out what my grades were until I got my transcript after I graduated (and they weren't as bad as I thought. In fact, they were much better.)

In all honesty, I probably wouldn't have looked at them had I not given my parents access to my grades early on this semester. Not to mention, I got a letter from Tech, telling me that I have to meet with my academic advisor (they listed the wrong guy, of course) and telling me that I have to take UN1010 - Creating Your Success. "Introduction to strategies for creating academic, professional and personal success. Emphasis is on determining individual priorities, improving self-management and developing critical thinking skills. Guided journal writing will be used to explore these strategies."
And guess who's the prof... my cousin. SHOOT. ME. NOW.

Yikes. Do they make everyone on Ac Pro take that, or just the fresh...I mean first years?

Is she the first one of her generation to really screw up too? Because that, apparently, makes it even worse. :(
Well done! :)
I think she might have even done better than my mom.
heh, heh, thats actually kinda funny...:p
You would. That's NOT funny. It's stupid. It's like, toolbags, if I'm going to do better, I'm going to have to do it on my own. You can't hold my hand to get me off of ac pro. Plus, I don't have time to set another freaking hour aside for you. Not to mention spend $200. Having my cousin as my prof just puts the freaking icing on the cake.

They didn't make me do any of that when I was on it. Just sent a letter telling me to shape up.

I wonder what would happen if you A'd all your other classes, but failed UN1010?

I also know someone who received the "congratulations on a 4.0" and the "you're on ac pro" letters in consecutive semesters.

Actually the part about your cousin being the prof was the part I thought was funny...the part about having to take the class just plain sucks.

IIRC, it's everyone.
Just took a look at the syllabus..
I get to:
write journals
have a conference with my instructor
lead the class for a day with my group
send my prof an "About Me" email
keep track of everything I do in a week
find out what type of animal I am

...among other things.

Twitch, I think this crap just started a couple of years ago. Maybe even last year.

I know, which is why I threw the thing in about her at the end. :p
Maybe Coach Russell should be placed on ac pro, and made to come to this class. We have to learn how to set goals and such. I think it'd be good for him.
