Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 88: What's in your stash?

For those of you keeping score at home. For breakfast and a pre lunch snack I have had Reeses Peanut Butter Cups and Kit Kat's.

So I get a VM this morning. "Hi this is "so and so with xyz" and I just want to remind you that we have you on the agenda for tomorrow nights meeting. Actually, come to think of it I don't think I ever informed you before that you are the featured speaker at our 11/3 meeting. So, this message is to inform you that you are on the agenda for tomorrow's meeting. Please call with questions."

Seriously?

Pretty early for the ttp committee to meet.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 88: What's in your stash?

Morning lodge.

Got up early for no apparent reason and wasn't even tired. This is a nice way to start a Monday. Since I got to work 45 minutes early, hopefully I can get out of here a little early too.

mrg is basically right. The combine is able to determine yield and moisture in real time as you drive across the field, as this is determined, it fills in a map of the field on a screen in the cab with a color scale, showing the yield. By looking at this we are able to tell where our low yields are and therefore where to focus our attention.

The GPS is also in the planting tractor and sprayer, so we create maps for each operation, at the end of the season we have a layer for everything we did to the field that season. In the sprayer and planting tractor we also have auto-steer to go with the GPS, so the tractor will essentially drive itself, eliminating overlaps and giving us perfectly straight rows. GPS tells the planter and sprayer exactly where we've been before, so we don't plan any extra and we don't waste any spray. It shuts off rows and sprayer nozzle 1 at a time as they get to an area already covered. Since chemicals and seed cost us over $100k a season, eliminating waste there is very beneficial.

Farming has come a long way in the last 10 years.

1 for engine controls
1 for harvesting controls (actual settings in the internal mechanisms)
1 for GPS/yield monitoring system

We really only interact with the second 2, engine controls does everything itself unless there is a problem

Looks like somebody is overcompensating for some *ahem* deficiencies in their lives if you know what I mean. Ask ASaaG he knows. ;) :D :p :)

Maybe that's why XYZ never posts anymore! :D

Seriously, that sucks! Is there anyway that you can explain to such individual that 24-hours (or 48-hours) notice is unacceptable when preparing to speak at a meeting (particularly as a featured speaker)?

I would but I like being employed. ;)

That's small town for you. I called them back and informed them I was available to show up but next time I might not be.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 88: What's in your stash?

if that's true, then why the hell does corn get more expensive every year. :p
Corn may get more expensive for the consumer, but the farmer still gets the same price...there are spikes and dips like in any market, but generally the price for corn today is the same as it was 15 years ago.

About what I figured, but I knew you would explain it better to the city folks. ;) :D

I would have called them during their lunch, and left them a voice mail saying that you had a conflict at that time. What conflict they ask, well, sure the kids have something going on at that time. ;)

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 88: What's in your stash?

I would pay a little extra money for a kid-free flight. Or maybe they should pay a little more.

Add a 25 dollar per baby fee. I like it. After all these are the idiots that have to stuff their strollers in the overhead.

fine, so why are apples, bananas, mangos, grapes, etc. more expensive? To pay for these GPS units? :p You farmers are so lazy.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 88: What's in your stash?

All the best on your speech :)

Thanks. I have given this speech/presentation before so I don't have to put much effort into preparation.

My schedule is crazy this week as I will be out all next week for some meetings in cityslickerville.

Staying in town or commuting?

Go choke on a Mars bar you sugar junkie. Gee, I hope you don't get tongue tied tomorrow night and make an even bigger a/s/s of yourself than you usually do. I'm guessing the over/under on your getting gonged off the stage is a minute and a half. :D

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 88: What's in your stash?

The Monday after Halloween, several people at work usually bring in their left over candy. I had four things on the list, and at least one more was on the table.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 88: What's in your stash?

Staying in town. Arrive Sunday and leave Friday evening. Staying on the East side.

One of these days we'll have to hook up while you're in town. I doubt I'll be going to 320-land for any seminars in the foreseeable future.

Yeah - I don't miss that aspect of small town. My father runs into the same thing... :(

Ah, yes, the joys of being a farmer. And people wonder why so many small farms go under and so much farming is done by corporations.

Plus, suitcases in the overhead and additional bags under the seat. From now on, I'm going to fly off-peak (if possible) to and from Orlando to avoid this hassle. One family nearly left one of their kids in the airport yesterday (as in the whole family was seated on the plane and they were boarding the last of the passengers when the kid realized his parents were nowhere to be found!

 I didn't know you guys swung that way. (Not that there's anything wrong with that...)

Took a break outside after I experienced a dizzy spell from overcaffeination. Came back to find a positive response to an email I had sent about a second job. Woo! More $$. :D

The only other time gmann and I hooked up (and that probably is a poor choice of words :o ), Mrs. gmann and Mrs. Gonzo were there as well. We even validated that Mrs. gmann is better off not looking at the board. ;)

Into voyeurism, huh?

*shakes head* kids these days.

Yes we should. Not likely next week though. 1) I am not driving and 2) Due to the nature of the meetings next week we will "debrief" over dinner and beverages until late in the evening.........
