Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 88: What's in your stash?

absolutely do the research. we had an old family diamond - in a man's ring - and wanted it reset for the son to give to his girl - I was surprised how many jewelers were like - that old thing - get something new. finally found one we could work with - once it was cleaned and reset - wow! - its a stunner! hmmm. :( should have kept that for myself. ;) :) :D

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 88: What's in your stash?

FWIW ring research should be done. Before I bought the rock for Mrs. g I spent quite a bit of time learning the 4 c's of diamonds. Also I spent time researching certain "tactics" some jewelers will use to make the diamonds appear better than they actually are. I am glad I did the research as I was really amazed at how often "reputable" jewelers pulled some crap. If they pulled anything sneaky I would take out my list of jewelers (in front of the salesperson) and scratch them off the list and exit the store.

A friend and colleague, who happens to be Jewish, assisted me in getting the best possible deal I could on Mrs. Gonzo's ring. His uncle was a wholesaler and veteran jeweler. I learned so much talking to that man, that I could walk in to nearly any store and school some of the employees there. I also got to look at some truly spectacular stones that are so far away from anything I could ever buy, short of a lottery win, that it was my only moment in time to hold and admire them. Sadly, he died a couple of years ago. I can still buy from that wholesale group, but it makes me sad to go there and know I won't see him any longer.

Luckily, I don't really want diamonds. :p

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 88: What's in your stash?

I know nothing about jewelry and the right man is far more important to me than a ring.

That said...I want a diamond. It's my birthstone and I don't own any. :(

haha, some boy I used to date told me I had to get my ears pierced 'cause he wanted to buy me diamond earings.

sorry for the triple post:

For those of you keeping score at home, we just lost the other paralegal (resigned). We're down, 2 associates, 1 partner, and 2 (and only) paralegals since June 1.
