I caught it too, thats why I only sigged part of it.:p

BTW, you've met the girl that I'm going to GLI with, not sure if you'll remember. She came down to the ambo for some drinks with us when everyone was in Houghton for the first invasion.
The married one that everyone says I was hitting on? :p

No she was definitely single, I don't remember the married one...I didn't know many married girls at Tech and the ones that I did know I didn't really hang out with. Unless I'm just completely drawing a blank.

I think her name was Lindsay...

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 88: What's in your stash?

So, as I was driving through some "wintery mix" this morning on my way to Marquette, I had a bit of an interesting experience (read: terrifying as hell).

One of my tires caught some slush on the road and all of a sudden I was literally spinning out of control. I couldn't correct at all and I couldn't slow down. I didn't want to hit the brakes but at the point I was at -- all over the road in every imaginable direction -- I didn't feel I had any other choice. I slammed down the brake pedal as hard as I could and finally I started to slow down, and then the tires must've hit a dry patch because my car jerked to a halt, facing the opposite direction that I was driving.

I am fairly confident that had I not stopped when I did, I would've ended up flipping my car at least once. I have never felt that out-of-control of any situation ever, in a vehicle or not. When my car stopped I just sat there for about 10 seconds, and then I realized I should probably move. I got going in the right direction and moved about 30 feet or so when I realized that I couldn't drive because I was shaking so hard. I pulled off the road and just sat in silence for a little bit. I'm also very glad that all of the traffic was far enough behind me that other vehicles were a non-factor. Just... wow.

Luckily the roads were all clear on the way back.

Hammer has that affect on folks. :D

Awkward turtle.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 88: What's in your stash?

My younger sister (just turned 21 in July) convinced my parents that she'd eloped about 2 months ago. (This is not entirely out of the realm of possibility for this sibling.) Things have quieted a bit on the marriage-nagging front since then.
This made me laugh.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 88: What's in your stash?

Oh- I forgot the car thing-
-66 Chevy 3 on the column- somewhere over 100K when the engine block gave in. (this was off by a few K as the kid that sold it to me rolled back the odometer. Favorite car of my life- see the really old thread about your favorite car)
-Toyota SR5 (1980 something) Crushed by a ding-dong driving poorly (Boston Driver- decided to merge by driving into me on the bridge heading out of Boston) and totalled. 80K- great car
-Nissan 82'- 70+K- killed by another Boston A hole driver who crushed me by running a red lite and driving into the side of me at 7:30 on a Sunday AM. Didn't see the light or me:eek: .
-Dodge 84'-POS- 60K can't say enough bad stuff. It would have lived forever but ditched it.
-1999 Subaru- converted for life. Was blasted into by a Ford F150 and only came out with a few cuts from the glass and needing to get the drivers side replaced. (Guy on cell phone- oops he thought he could go). Finally died after a teen on a cell rammed me from behind and crumpled the cargo bed. Had at least another few years in her.
-2007 Bru Still awesome.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 88: What's in your stash?

A brief interlude about car talk that included bits on: American brand cars, brand loyalty, Gonzo being unable to screw correctly, check engine lights, and perception of ability of companies to be able to build cars.

SFIS had a successful surgery (gets cath out tomorrow and test results back) is hoping to screw again (may want to take this up with Gonzo).

RB is rapidly closing in on 100K and may need to tune up his keyboard if the check keyboard light comes on. He's also got a doc. appt. coming up, so positive thoughts in his direction.

nmu/diva is having some troubles with the RC and was asking for advice - some helpful, some not. Most important thoughts were that she is not responsible in any way for his behaviour.

Monster needs to do 15 massages by next week, so line up!

bb_dl is a stud at his new job and got 2 positive reviews today. He's also planning to go to the GLI (some hockey tournament) and has purchased airplane tickets and some lovely ladies.

Gonzo also received positive reviews at his new gig.

Bob got a tattoo and has started running again. *thumbs up* from the doc on his progress.

Jon works all the ****ing time now and has no idea what is going on in the Lodge.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 88: What's in your stash?

JFC. Glad you're okay! Hydroplaned once. Still get flashbacks once in a while. :o

As for vehicles:

1. The infamous Deadmobile: 1989 Corsica. Bought from parents. Ended up selling it my brother for $100, on the condition he didn't mess up the Steal Your Face logo on the hood. :D It was his "fun car" (and a second vehicle for him). It had 190K when I sold it, last I heard (since my bro sold it to a co-worker about a year later) it had about 240K.

2. The Blue Torpedo: 1990 Corsica. Bought from parents. Sold it after someone broke into it and ruined all the wiring for the air/heat controls/dashboard. Due to the style of the car, you had to replace the whole dashboard/etc to fix. * that. Sold it at 140K, last I heard (sold it bro's friend) it had 200K+. That brings me to my current vehicle:

3. The Fifth, aka "Rosie" (a la AC/DC): 1999 Jeep Wrangler. 70K or so currently. Unfortunately, even though most are "highway miles," they are all still short jaunts, for the most part.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 88: What's in your stash?

Thats her name, but she has never been married. She had a boyfriend at that time, but not anymore. It sounds like you know who she is.
Then who was the married girl everyone thought I was hitting on? She's the only one I talked to that I hadn't met before that night...

Good work. I'll be posting a picture of my tattoo in the "show yourselves" thread in a couple minutes.

Yeah--you wanna give me some motivation to start running again regularly?
Running can give you rock star status, especially after you complete a big race or win your age group.

Sure, want to help me rearrange furniture and figure out where I'm going to put my awesome new huge sofa that is getting delivered tomorrow?

(I'm just a bit excited, it's big, and comfy, and long enough to fall asleep on comfortably. I just hope the delivery people can get it through the door and up the stairs)
Sure! Just pay me with a sandwich and good coffee.

Sure - I need help finishing painting the bathroom and few spots in the living room, hanging my hockey posters on the wall in the hall, folding and hanging up mountains of clean laundry on the couch and bed, doing some generic cleaning in the bathroom and kitchen, and sweeping the bedroom and kitchen. Also - organizing my bookshelf and going grocery shopping (note, you'll need to provide a car for this as I don't have one).

True - definitely one of the perks to being short - we can fall asleep on loveseats, small couches, etc.
Can do! Once again, I don't ask for much in return... just a sandwich and some good coffee.

evening, Lodge. Did a lot of work today... and tomorrow, I need to get up early and start making chili. Either that, or I'll make chicken rice pilaf; not sure.

Three Dickinson State students were found dead today in their car. They had driven into a stock pond and drowned. Classes tomorrow are cancelled. :(

Thanks, guys. And here I thought free coffee from the BP was the highlight of my day. Ha. How about my car and me both being in one piece and in pristine working condition :)

add one more yikes! I hate hate hate slushy roads.

I hate winter. Slush is the worst, I hate the noise it makes when it hits the underside of my car. Scares the crap out of me.
